Gun of Ashes

Chapter 397: Chapter 49 Counterattack_2

The Cardinal Shermans.

Lorenzo would perfectly conclude this case, because he also needed Shermans. As a cardinal, he was once high in power and authority, and he must know quite a bit about the secrets of the Evangelical Church, perhaps he could find out information from him related to the eradication of demons.

”So what do you want to know?”

Speaking of the transaction, Heracles also got serious.

”Exile, the exile from Florence, his name is Shermans, a cardinal of the Evangelical Church, currently wanted by the new Pope.”

Heracles squinted, as if recalling everything related to this piece of information.

He was silent for a few seconds, then smiled and asked Lorenzo.

”So what can you give me?”

”Just ask.” Lorenzo replied directly.

”Shall I go first?”

Lorenzo nodded.

Upon hearing this, Heracles was not at all courteous. He thought briefly, considering many complex questions, but in summary, none were as clear and concise as one question.

”Who are you?”

”Lorenzo Holmes, a detective, and part-time demon hunter... I was actually retired.” Lorenzo said.

”Where are you from?”

”Holy Evangelical Pope Kingdom, the Demon Hunting Order managed by the Evangelical Church. That Shermans could also be considered my former boss.”

”What do you want to do?”

”Kill demons, as many as possible.”

Lorenzo responded expressionlessly.

A few simple sentences, but the information revealed in these words was enough for Heracles to think of too much. They would become bricks to fill in the logical gaps in his deduction.

After another period of silence, Heracles slowly spoke.

”Let me think about your questions.”

”Not continuing to ask?” Lorenzo thought he would ask more questions. Instead, Heracles suddenly stopped.

”You need me, so you will eventually tell me all secrets. There’s no need to be impatient.” Heracles answered confidently.

Heracles could deduce a rough idea of Lorenzo. Behind him, there was an equally mysterious organization. Yet from Lorenzo’s lack of direct connection to them, it was clear Lorenzo and that organization weren’t absolutely united, and he needed Heracles indispensably.

”As for that Shermans...”

The majestic hall unfolded before Heracles, rising layer by layer into the clouds, accompanied by gentle hymns, as the heavy doors opened with a thunderous sound.

Countless scenes flashed before his eyes as the door opened. Hundreds and thousands of whispers in different languages and accents pieced together an unknown story.

Lorenzo patiently waited. Heracles was an interesting person. As he said himself, after the shipwreck he gained unimaginable power, and massive information flowed through his thoughts. If he was a machine, the machine would now be running at high speed, with hot air gushing out from the iron crevices, carrying the thunderous sound.

”I think... I have some clues.”

Heracles concluded his thought, building a magnificent hall in his mind. If thinking could be visualized, Lorenzo would see Heracles carrying a ladder, searching back and forth on towering bookshelves for related information.

His expression was a bit odd, but before saying all this, he reminded Lorenzo again.

”My intelligence isn’t accurate, after all, it’s just my deduction. To verify its truth, you’ll need to see it yourself.”

Hearing his emphasis, Lorenzo didn’t mind.

”I know, I just need a starting point, something to guide me where to begin.”

Lorenzo certainly understood the limitations of all this, but within these limitations, much could still be achieved.

A rebuke here for Oscar too, he gave very little information. In such a large Old Dunling, without Heracles, Lorenzo trying to find someone here would be much harder, even perhaps impossible.

”Anything wrong?”

Lorenzo noticed Heracles’ strange expression and asked.

Heracles then thought carefully, and after confirming he hadn’t guessed wrong, he asked.

”Do you still remember our first meeting?”

”Rat Nest?”

Lorenzo remembered being thrown several meters away by a carriage while chasing someone.

”They are outsiders. Though they disguise well, I could hear the difference in their accents.” Heracles said. ”They are a group of shadowy people, and their actions too are hidden, otherwise they wouldn’t come to me.”

Lorenzo listened intently, unable to restrain himself. ”You even analyze your customers?”

”It’s just that this dear customer almost killed me.” At first, Heracles was friendly to Lorenzo because he saved him there. Despite having a brain beyond ordinary, Heracles’ physical condition was awful, possibly due to lingering trauma from the shipwreck. With his frail physique, falling from such a height would be fatal.

”Those guys have problems, and even the questions they asked were problematic.” Heracles’ words sounded convoluted.

”Actually, from the questions many people ask, one can deduce their identity and purpose. Merchants seek profit, politicians seek power... Of course, my business scope isn’t that advanced.”

Though he was quite well-known in Lower City District, under Heracles’ intentional control, Inferior Rat was still just an unknown figure to Old Dunling.

”What was their question, and what was the answer?” Lorenzo asked.

”What happened in the north of Old Dunling, and I deduced that there was a secret military operation there not long ago.”

Heracles stated frankly, but then saw Lorenzo’s slightly changing expression and was somewhat incredulous.

”This... surely you’re not involved?”

Lorenzo didn’t answer this but directly stood up and said.

”I think I know. These can wait for now. If needed, here’s my address.”

Lorenzo said, taking out his business card and placing it on the bar.

”No... I haven’t even finished my deduction!” Heracles didn’t know what was going on with Lorenzo.

”I’ve already deduced it, Heracles. Actually, I am quite smart too, it’s just that I often prefer to use violence to solve problems.”

Saying this, Lorenzo was about to leave. He indeed had a brain of intelligence, but instead of calculating intricately, he preferred speaking with swords; it’s much faster.

Everyone is driven by purpose, even in fleeing. If Shermans truly wanted to avoid the new Pope’s pursuit, he should go to more distant, remote places, not Old Dunling, a city full of power struggles. He must have some ulterior motives in coming.

In these few words, Lorenzo already deduced the unknown secret. But this time, relying solely on himself wasn’t enough.

Though with the arrival of the mission, Lorenzo was also wary of the Purification Mechanism, but in this event, he still couldn’t separate from it.

”I should have thought about it earlier.”

Lorenzo whispered while walking.

The powerful Shermans surely wouldn’t be unaware of its existence, that precious item called ”Revelation.” As long as they obtained it, even the new Pope would no longer be a threat, and they could reestablish a new church as they wished.

This was the exiles’ real purpose; they came to Old Dunling not to escape, but to counterattack.
