Gun of Ashes

Demon, what exactly is it?

After Ban’er transformed into a demon, during the battle with Lorenzo, this demon hunter couldn’t help but think about these things.

Ban’er and Sabo were somewhat similar. They didn’t undergo specialization and training, directly injected with Secret Blood. Such a body and will couldn’t control that kind of Forbidden Power, so they went mad and lost control, turning into abhorrent demons.

But unlike pure demons, they retained a modicum of rationality after completely demonizing. Just like Sabo at that time, he could even resist the erosion and normally converse with Lorenzo, whereas Ban’er was evidently much worse than Sabo. He also retained some rationality, but only the instincts of a creature.

Ban’er sought advantage and avoided harm, evading Lorenzo’s pursuit in the dark space. It ran swiftly, its extended arms moving quickly, and for a moment, Lorenzo couldn’t keep up with it.

But ultimately, this place was enclosed. Ban’er had nowhere to escape until these officers appeared.

Lorenzo had to admire these people’s courage and dedication. The place was a battleground, hot steam with shockwaves continuously spreading. It seemed no normal person would enter here... but then, how could ordinary people know of the existence of demons?

Passing an already stunned Pres, the afterglow of the Dragon Breath Bullet briefly illuminated this hellish scene.

The water on the ground mixed with blood, countless cracks spread across the walls and floor. No one knew what kind of battle Lorenzo and the demon had fought before this.

Ban’er was nearby. It had fully transformed into a demon, its body size increased several times. During the slaughter, the dead limbs fused into its body. Eve witnessed this terrifying monstrosity too. Although the light lasted only a few seconds, that disgusting image was imprinted in her mind.

Sharp claws protruded from the arms, splitting the entire hand into two parts. There were several such bizarre thin arms, with the core being a bloated body. The pale abdomen swelled up, the lower limbs shriveled, and the dry feet lifted high. It relied solely on countless arms from the upper body to crawl on the ground.

Pres couldn’t help but gag, sticky red liquid entwined among those arms, while in the center, Ban’er’s head could barely be seen with a strange smile on its pale face. With the help of a hallucinogen, he died with glee.

”Wha... what is that...”

Pres almost had no strength to move, fear tightly gripping his throat.

”It’s a demon.”

Lorenzo responded indifferently, the folding blade reflecting brilliant flames, his iron armor full of scratches, leaving one to wonder what he had just experienced.

”De... Demon.”

Pres whispered the word filled with fear, but immediately realized something. This voice sounded so familiar.

He looked at the burning figure in front of him, somewhat disbelieving.

”Lorenzo? Lorenzo Holmes!”

Pres shouted in astonishment, but Lorenzo didn’t respond. He suddenly accelerated, and with him, Ban’er also sped up, several slender arms lifting its bloated body. It moved rapidly in the dark space, like a giant spider, sharp bone blades stabbing into walls and floor, creating a piercing noise.

Lorenzo followed closely, the shotgun in his hands kept firing, bursts of flames accompanied the demon’s wails, shattering limbs, stirring thick blood.

Donas in the corner was covered by splattering blood. He couldn’t even scream, forced to witness the monsters’ deadly fight.

Ban’er let out a sharp scream, slender arms with bone blades sweeping towards Lorenzo. The sharp folding blade clashed with it, producing a metallic screech.

The bones were sturdy, and the sharp folding blade couldn’t cut through it for a moment.

Lorenzo didn’t continue to pursue. Instead, he grabbed the bone blade with one hand. As Ban’er retracted its arm, Lorenzo advanced with it, closing in once again.

Ban’er was a tricky demon, different from the small fries he usually hacked down. These demons, which had lost their human form, were all complex. Indeed, like the numerous previous attacks from Lorenzo, countless bone blades attacked simultaneously when Lorenzo approached Ban’er, as if it was swinging all its fists, fiercely smashing towards Lorenzo.

Like dozens of swords, they crashed into the iron armor, sparking brilliantly, simultaneously pushing Lorenzo away with force.

This confrontation had happened many times before. Lorenzo couldn’t get close to Ban’er, and Ban’er’s bone blades couldn’t pierce Lorenzo’s armor.

But this time was slightly different. Lorenzo fired from a close range while being pushed away, the shotgun almost pressed against the arm, firing amidst the booming sound. The entire arm was shattered by pellets, broken limbs falling.

Lorenzo started to miss the Nail Sword of the Demon Hunting Order. Though it wore down fast, it was a lethal weapon against demons. The folding blade was also coated with holy silver, but to save holy silver, it only existed on the blade’s tip, greatly reducing its effective strike area, so often Lorenzo couldn’t completely slash through an arm in one blow.

Picking up a few bullets, the shotgun spat out the bullet heads still carrying residual heat, Lorenzo reloaded. During the scuffle, he was also forcing Ban’er back, protecting those officers behind him.

”Take them away, Eve. This is not the place for you.”

Lorenzo shouted.

Eve ran in the dark. Although she wasn’t ready to accept Lorenzo again, she knew Lorenzo was the expert in this field. Novices should listen to experts.

She motioned Pres to run towards the tunnel they came from, simultaneously searching for surviving officers in the dark. But it seemed everyone’s survival instincts were strong. As Lorenzo blocked the demon, a large part had already left.

”It really is you! Lorenzo!”

Hearing the familiar voice again, Pres shouted as he ran.

This wasn’t a good time for a friendly reunion, but Pres couldn’t help shouting.

He had often gone on cases with this detective. Each time, the detective led him to bizarre cases, but Pres had never encountered any danger.

For a moment, he thought, perhaps each time, Lorenzo was fighting these monsters, then would lightly return with him, sometimes even extorting a few meals’ worth of money from him.

This detective was really annoying, yet at this moment seemed extraordinarily reliable.

”Don’t die, Lorenzo!”

Pres shouted worriedly, but his pace didn’t slow. He didn’t look back, running swiftly, with a bit of Lorenzo’s flair.

Lorenzo didn’t notice Pres’s momentary sentimentality, nor did he ponder how quickly this guy’s thoughts flew. Lorenzo was now only focused on one thing: how to kill Ban’er.

He was the hunter, and Ban’er was the prey.
