Wu dong Qian Kun: I, Lin Langtian, Refuse to be a Supporting Character

”A Nirvana-level beast spirit, the Ancient Dragon Ape?”

Hearing Elder Lin Zhi’s words, Lin Langtian was momentarily stunned, then a smile of excitement spread across his face. For days, he had instructed his faction to search for information on high-level beast spirits, and finally, there was a lead.

A Nirvana-level beast spirit was likely one of the most formidable beings in the Great Flame Empire. Capturing and offering it to Spirit Aunt would bring her closer to awakening.

”Tell me everything about this Ancient Dragon Ape, Elder Lin Zhi,” Langtian urged, eager for more information.

Seeing Langtian’s anticipation, Lin Zhi became more serious as he explained, ”After you tasked me with finding high-level beast spirits, I utilized the clan’s full network and resources. Finally, we discovered the Ancient Dragon Ape in the Great Desolation County, and it matches your requirements perfectly.

”The Ancient Dragon Ape is a powerful ancient beast. With a trace of dragon blood in its veins, even a fully-grown Ancient Dragon Ape possesses strength comparable to a Nirvana-level cultivator. There’s one fallen adult Dragon Ape in the mountains of the Great Desolation, and though its physical body has deteriorated, its beast spirit remains intact. If not for the Lin Clan’s status as one of the empire’s four great families, such news would’ve been nearly impossible to obtain.”

”A full-grown Ancient Dragon Ape... dragon bloodline?” Langtian raised his eyebrows, a smirk appearing on his lips. The beast’s strength and noble bloodline were almost tailor-made for Spirit Aunt. He was determined to claim that beast spirit!

With his resolve set, Langtian clasped his hands gratefully. ”Thank you, Elder Lin Zhi. I’ll remember this assistance.”

”No need for such formality,” Lin Zhi chuckled. ”Your renown has spread across the Lin Clan and throughout the Great Flame Empire. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if you soon surpass us old-timers!” Looking at the dashing young man in front of him, Lin Zhi felt pride in his early investment in Langtian, confident this choice would yield immense returns.

After a moment’s satisfaction, Lin Zhi’s expression grew cautious. ”Though it’s only a beast spirit now, the Nirvana-level Dragon Ape is still powerful. Plus, there’s a young Dragon Ape in the same area, with strength comparable to someone in the early Creation Stage. Perhaps it would be wise to let me lead a team to assist you in capturing the spirit.”

Langtian paused but then shook his head. ”Thank you, Elder, but there’s no need. You have important responsibilities within the clan and shouldn’t leave without permission. Sending a whole unit to secure a beast spirit would draw far too much attention. I’m confident I can capture it myself, and the young dragon ape won’t pose a threat to me.”

Capturing the beast spirit was for Spirit Aunt, one of Langtian’s greatest secrets. He didn’t want unnecessary attention, especially from the Great Flame Empire. If anything went wrong, and Spirit Aunt was exposed, the consequences could be dire. After all, powerful figures from supreme sects, like Ling Qingzhu, were present in the empire, and Lin Dong’s encounter with the Devouring Ancestral Symbol had drawn an elder from a supreme sect to the scene.

Who knew how interested these powerful sects might be in Spirit Aunt?

Besides, seclusion was not the only path to strength. This journey would also serve as practical training, sharpening his combat skills, which aligned with Langtian’s plans for self-improvement.

Seeing Langtian’s determination, Lin Zhi nodded after a moment’s thought. ”With your strength, you should be able to handle any danger short of facing an old monster from the empire. But if you encounter anything beyond your capacity, return to the clan immediately. You are, after all, under the protection of the clan leader.”

Even Lin Zhi couldn’t hide a hint of envy as he spoke, for Langtian had earned Lin Fan’s full favor—a rare privilege. However, he also felt genuine pride for Langtian, as they belonged to the same faction within the clan.

After receiving a map of the Great Desolation from Lin Zhi, Langtian notified Lin Fan and set off without delay.

The Great Desolation County, known for being the largest territory in the Great Flame Empire, lay far from Langtian’s current location. Even though he could transform his Yuan Power to assume the form of a giant eagle for faster travel, his Yuan Power reserves would only last so long. The journey would take months, especially since he would pass through several territories on the way.

To hone his combat experience, Langtian decided to forgo the main roads and towns, opting instead to travel through desolate forests. These areas, inhabited by fierce beasts, were less safe but offered a more direct path. Wandering through the forest not only allowed him to hunt and collect medicinal herbs but also offered the opportunity to battle beasts and strengthen his skills.

The dense forest, filled with towering trees, resounded with a bestial roar. A massive figure crashed through several large trees, emerging from the forest and trailing a foul stench. The beast’s body was scarred and bleeding, its fresh wounds spilling streams of blood that painted the forest floor red. After staggering a short distance, it finally collapsed.

A slender figure leapt from the shadows, gracefully landing atop the fallen beast, a slight smile on his face.

The figure was Langtian himself, dressed in green robes. Standing tall, his hair flowed gently in the breeze, giving him an aura of elegance and poise.

Ever since he left Lin City, Langtian had been navigating these dense forests for nearly half a month, living off the land and fighting off countless beasts in brutal battles that tested his limits each day.

The Magic-Armored Azure Wolf before him, a fearsome beast with strength surpassing most Qi Creation cultivators, was one of his latest conquests. Even a peak Qi Creation warrior would have struggled to defeat it. After a grueling hour-long battle, Langtian had finally exhausted the beast to death.

This daily cycle of intense combat had visibly changed him over the past two weeks. His face retained its handsome features and prideful aura, but his gaze now held a chilling intensity—a hint of ruthlessness that had begun to take root in his heart.

Langtian smirked, pleased with his growth. ”Ahead lies the Great Desolation. Spirit Aunt, you will awaken soon,” he murmured, looking toward the distant horizon.
