Wu dong Qian Kun: I, Lin Langtian, Refuse to be a Supporting Character

”A… beast egg?” Lin Langtian raised his eyebrows, intrigued as he studied the black-gold patterned beast egg before him. From the unique energy radiating off it, he could tell it wasn’t from any ordinary beast—its bloodline was clearly high-grade. However, he couldn’t discern its exact species based on the egg’s appearance alone.

”Hehe, everyone, this mysterious beast egg was discovered by the Royal Expedition Team in a cave within the Northern Beast Forest of the empire,” Prince Mo Tianxing explained with a smile. ”The egg has been in the royal family’s possession for several years without hatching. Even our royal experts couldn’t identify its species, but it’s safe to assume this is no ordinary beast, and its bloodline is of considerable strength. For those interested, perhaps you’ll find yourself with a powerful guardian beast one day, should it hatch.”

With that, Prince Mo Tianxing announced the opening bid: ”The starting price for this beast egg is 200,000 Pure Yuan Dans.”

The crowd gasped audibly. While many of them were top talents from influential families, 200,000 Pure Yuan Dans was still a substantial sum, especially for an opening bid. The final price could skyrocket from here.

Sensing the hesitancy, Prince Mo Tianxing added, ”If you can’t produce the full amount now, don’t worry. His Majesty has graciously allowed deferred payment for this item. You need only inform your family or sect of the purchase, and as long as the sum is transferred to the royal treasury within ten days, the egg is yours.”

This was music to the young elites’ ears. Though they didn’t have that kind of money on them, their families certainly did. If this egg indeed hatched a powerful beast, it would bring immeasurable benefits to their families or sects. Elated, several of them began eyeing the egg hungrily, ready to bid.

Seeing the eager faces, Mo Tianxing chuckled to himself. As the empire’s ruling power, the royal family had no qualms about granting deferred payments, knowing that no one would dare delay the emperor’s dues. Even Lin Langtian felt the appeal; a powerful beast companion would be a great asset as he explored the world. If this creature evolved like Lin Dong’s Fire Python Tiger, it could become a loyal comrade and formidable force.

Determined to claim the egg, Lin Langtian mentally tallied his remaining Pure Yuan Dans and prepared to bid. Just as he was about to make his move, a soft, clear voice interrupted him from across the auction hall.

”Hehe, everyone, I too am interested in this egg. Would you all be willing to let it go?” The lighthearted voice immediately put a damper on the once-heated bidding atmosphere, cooling it instantly.

Everyone recognized the voice—it was none other than Lin Qingzhu, the disciple from a supreme sect who had come to the Great Yan Empire. The emperor had already decreed that anything Qingzhu desired was off-limits to others, so bidding against her was simply not an option. Initially, they had assumed this rule was just a formality; what could an elite from a supreme sect possibly desire in a small empire like theirs? But here she was, staking her claim on this beast egg.

”Could this egg really be something special?” a few attendees wondered, eyes widening. If Lin Qingzhu, a top disciple of an elite sect, was interested in it, the egg had to hold more value than they realized.

Even Prince Mo Tianxing on the auction platform looked taken aback, a hint of regret flashing across his face. Could it be that the egg, which the royal experts had written off as unlikely to hatch, actually held hidden potential?

”Qingzhu, you’re quite discerning to be drawn to this egg. Do you perhaps recognize its species?” Prince Mo Tianxing asked with a probing smile.

Lin Qingzhu’s expression remained calm. Smiling faintly, she replied, ”The Great Yan Empire is quite far from my sect’s domain, and I’m here alone. I’m only interested in this egg as a way to pass the time—I don’t actually know what creature it might hold. I suppose I’ll find out if I manage to hatch it.”

A trace of disappointment flashed in Mo Tianxing’s eyes, but he maintained his courteous smile. ”If that’s the case, as His Majesty decreed, we’ll offer this egg to you free of charge.”

”Oh, thank you, Uncle Mo, but I’m not one to take advantage. I’ll bid one million Pure Yuan Dans to purchase this egg,” Lin Qingzhu replied lightly.

”One million?” gasped the crowd, stunned by the hefty bid. In their minds, a sum that large was equivalent to an entire province’s annual tax revenue. Lin Qingzhu’s status as a supreme sect disciple was evident in her willingness to spend so freely.

Lin Langtian wasn’t overly surprised. Given her background, even a million Pure Yuan Dans or Nirvana Dans would be well within Lin Qingzhu’s means. Still, he felt a pang of disappointment—he’d had his eye on that egg, but it seemed he’d have to give up on it now.

Shaking off his regret, Lin Langtian quickly composed himself. While the egg was undoubtedly valuable, it would have required tens or even hundreds of thousands of Pure Yuan Dans to secure, forcing him to involve the Lin clan directly. And if the clan got involved, the egg’s ownership might end up being a complicated matter.

After the beast egg was awarded to Lin Qingzhu, the auction gradually wound down, returning to calmer proceedings. During this time, Lin Langtian spent an additional 100,000 Pure Yuan Dans to purchase a few items for Lin Ke’er and others—a gesture to strengthen their bond and ensure their loyalty.

With the auction concluded, Lin Langtian stretched and made his way toward the exit, eager to review his purchases.
