Chapter 489: Chapter 223 Shadow Assassin (Two-in-One Mega Chapter)_2

But after some thought, any number of unexpected changes could occur, leading the target to escape or some other unforeseen situations might arise.

The best strategy would still be a one-hit kill!

Moreover, after many years of assassinations, relying on the shadow assassin, Wexman had almost never missed.

Wexman and an identical shadow assassin disappeared into the shadows of the street ahead; the next second, the shadow assassin passed through a wall.

The very next second, Wexman’s figure also vanished suddenly, and in his place, the figure of the shadow assassin appeared—they had switched positions.

It turned out this was the greatest effect of the shadow assassin; it could swap places with the caster. Of course, this ability would consume a significant amount of the caster’s spiritual power, and if used consecutively, the consumption of spiritual power would increase geometrically.

Therefore, it was not something to be used frivolously.

But this was already a very special ability; it was as if Wexman also indirectly possessed the ability to pass through walls.

If Mary had witnessed this scene, she would definitely have understood how the other party had managed to kill a Great Knight captain in the sealed captain’s cabin.

After arriving at the town hall, Wexman first controlled the shadow assassin to sneak into several rooms; a few minutes later, he had confirmed the target’s room.

Meanwhile, Zenina outside, monitoring Wexman’s infiltration, began to cast Shadow Mist, a witchcraft, and soon, the mist near the town hall began to thicken gradually…

The night deepened.

Rein felt a level 3 danger perception warning start faintly within his heart.

Oddly though, as he rotated his eyes slightly under the bed, observing his surroundings, he could see no trace of anyone.

Suddenly, a shadowy figure, like mist, passed through the wall into his room and the next second, the figure flickered, as if the shadow had instantly become some sort of solid entity.

A middle-aged man in leather armor appeared before Rein.

Another second passed, and another shadowy figure passed through the wall into the room.

Meaning, at that moment, two figures, identical but one shadowy and one solid, had entered Rein’s room.

The entered middle-aged man in leather armor quickly locked his gaze on the stationary ‘Rein’ on the bed, a slight smirk appearing on his face, then suddenly, he pulled out two daggers emitting a bloody glow from his waist.

The set of movements of the middle-aged man in leather armor was almost immediately replicated by the identical shadowy figure without any delay.

Then, the two figures, one shadowy and one solid, silently surrounded Rein’s bed from different directions, both holding twin daggers.

Rein, lying under the bed, watched this unfold, connecting it to what Mary had previously mentioned about the two assassination attempts against an Imperial Navy Rear Admiral, and something clicked in his mind.

The shadowy figure reached near the bed and launched the attack first!

“Hiss!”

A sound of a blade tearing through the air rang out as the shadowy figure with a dagger violently aimed at ‘Rein’s’ head!

If it had hit, it would certainly have been a fatal blow, penetrating from the forehead through to the brain.

“Bang!”

A sound like a bubble bursting rang out!

Before Wexman’s astonished eyes, the target who had been lying in the bed turned into a wooden dummy, and the shadow assassin’s dagger ended up stabbing into a wooden figure instead.

There was no anticipated scenario where the opponent couldn’t react in time, resulting in the forehead being penetrated and the brain splattering everywhere.

Neither was there the anticipated scenario where the opponent reacted in time, parried the shadow assassin’s strike, and then he would launch a surprise attack from behind, ensuring a kill!

But none of these situations occurred.

This left the experienced Wexman momentarily stunned.

Just as he was inwardly cursing, planning to retreat quickly,

in that instant, after the dummy was struck, the floor below suddenly exploded, showering bright glittering dust all around.

Although Wexman’s pupils narrowed and he rapidly retreated, it was inevitable that a small amount of purple glitter dust contaminated his leather armor. The shadow assassin, also quick, ended up with a fair amount of glitter dust as well.

Though the quantity was small, in the dark night, two brightly shining figures were quite conspicuous.

Just as Wexman was about to wipe it off and leave immediately, a sudden alarm in his heart arose; the entire bed surged towards him like it was overwhelming the sky, and just as he was about to retreat, the bed exploded into pieces!

A figure, young in appearance but unnaturally swollen with muscles, all shining silver, wielding a Two-Handed Warhammer, brought it crashing down from above!

It was Rein, who had used ‘Overlimit’ and his talent ‘Intermediate Giant Force’!

Naturally, Wexman chose not to face the heavy weapon head-on.

His daggers, no matter how keen and refined, would be foolish to clash against a weapon several times heavier than himself.

Wexman triggered Overlimit, his feet barely touching, his speed increased dramatically as he swiftly retreated, comfortably dodging Rein’s crushing hammer strike.

Just as Wexman felt a bit of relief, thinking he had dodged the opponent’s hammer strike, and started to control the nearby shadow assassin for a counterattack, his pupils suddenly dilated.

Because he saw that after Rein’s hammer didn’t hit him, it didn’t stop; rather, it gained speed and violently struck the room’s floor.

In an instant, a powerful and invisible force transmitted from the point of impact between the hammer and the floor erupted.
