Ms. Diviner: The Prodigal Daughter's Return

Chapter 1296: Chapter 1296: A Surge of Nameless Sorrow

”Sir, there are thousands of Exotic Beasts attacking Dingbian City outside; if no decision is made soon, Dingbian City might not be able to hold.”

Upon hearing this, Wu Ziyue’s face turned pale.

Although he is the sole heir of the Shoulder-to-shoulder King, with an esteemed status, once he inherits the title of prince, his status will be above Prince Anxi. As long as it’s not regicide, even the Emperor has no way with him. However, he has not yet inherited the title of prince; as the City Lord, if Dingbian City is lost and countless innocents die, not even his father can protect him.

After all, the Wu Family isn’t a single inheritance; if no major mistake was made, it could be overlooked, but such a serious error would grant those relatives already coveting the position of Shoulder-to-shoulder King the perfect opportunity to push him down.

”Kill, kill, kill them for me!” The more Wu Ziyue thought, the more uneasy he became. He swung his longsword and hysterically shouted at the Burning Sky Blue Flame Bulls charging towards them.

Those personal soldiers knew the situation was dire and didn’t even bother with Mu Hanyan and the others, instead turning to kill the group of Burning Sky Blue Flame Bulls.

”Boom!” With a loud crash, the black-armored warriors clashed head-on with the charging Burning Sky Blue Flame Bulls.

The front dozen personal soldiers were sent flying instantly, but the charging force of the Burning Sky Blue Flame Bulls also halted.

Unlike the Exotic Beasts like lions and tigers, the Burning Sky Blue Flame Bull doesn’t have sharp claws and teeth. Its attack power, apart from the innate ability of Burning Sky Blue Flames, comes from the powerful impact of running at full speed.

Now its charging was halted, losing its impact, the sharp bull horns swung clumsily, unable to pose any real threat to the well-trained black-armored guards.

With roars, the Burning Sky Blue Flame Bulls spewed blue flames, but once it landed on the black armor, a wave-like light pattern appeared on it. The hot temperature did not harm them at all.

The formation changed, and hundreds of armored soldiers became like a black iron barrel, firmly trapping those dozen Burning Sky Blue Flame Bulls within, as sharp longswords stabbed into their bodies from various angles.

Although personal soldiers were occasionally sent flying by the bulls, the sturdy armor protected them from any harm. Even the initial dozen soldiers, after taking Elixirs, returned to the battlefield as energetic as before.

Mu Hanyan was secretly amazed, no wonder the war between Anyun and Shangyue ended with Anyun’s crushing defeat. Be it the armor’s impressive defense or the rapid recovery Elixirs, they were indeed incomparable to Anyun.

In less than a quarter of an hour, the Burning Sky Blue Flame Bulls were entirely killed, while Wu Ziyue’s soldiers only suffered a dozen minor injuries, achieving a brilliant victory despite the odds.

”Soldiers, follow me... kill...” Wu Ziyue, evidently satisfied with the results, shouted with great pride and, mounting a Red Charcoal Cloud Smoke Beast, rushed toward the city gate, with hundreds of soldiers forming ranks and following behind.

At that moment, Mu Hanyan and the others were left standing where they were.

”Miss, what should we do?” Huayue asked.

”Let’s go and have a look too,” Mu Hanyan said after thinking for a bit.

Although the Burning Sky Blue Flame Bulls came aggressively, their power was quite ordinary and far weaker than the Fierce Stone Demon that attacked Hanshan Town previously; she felt that things wouldn’t be that simple.

Along the way, there was widespread grief. Although the Exotic Beasts that rushed into the city were killed within a quarter of an hour, hundreds of citizens died under their sharp horns or heavy iron hooves, or were reduced to ashes in the Burning Sky Blue Flames.

In the air, the scent of blood was thick, filling Mu Hanyan’s heart with an inexplicable sadness.

This was just one Exotic Beast city assault, with just a dozen beasts entering the city, bereaving hundreds of families. If the Jiuyou Netherworld seal shatters, if calamity descends upon the continent, what kind of purgatory would it be for humanity?

Looking at Wu Ziyue’s swaggering back, Mu Hanyan felt a deep sense of distaste.

If not for his greed, coveting the Cold Sky Sword and the Xuanyang Phoenix Feather Flower from Doctor Sun, and disregarding the City Guard’s report, how would things have reached such a state? Had he led his soldiers to the city gate in time, would all these innocent people have died?

At the city gate, Exotic Beasts surged like a tide, with the City Guard desperately resisting but retreating under the beasts’ onslaught.

Mu Hanyan noticed that these City Guard soldiers, though armed and armored well, could not compare with Wu Ziyue’s soldiers in terms of armor durability or martial arts cultivation.

”Some of Wu Ziyue’s personal soldiers are family-trained Death Soldiers, others elite troops recruited by his father from various frontier towns; their equipment specially made by famed masters even surpasses the Imperial Army,” Xiu Ming explained, seeing Mu Hanyan’s confusion. It wasn’t much of a secret; even if he didn’t say, Mu Hanyan would learn soon enough.

Mu Hanyan smiled, indeed, if all of Shangyue Country’s forces were such elite troops, not just Anyun Country, all countries on the continent would have been demolished by Shangyue long ago.

”These beasts dare attack my Dingbian City and harm my citizens. Soldiers, kill them all,” Wu Ziyue saw the opposing beasts weren’t strong, many even weaker than the Burning Sky Blue Flame Bulls, feeling reassured as he commanded his soldiers.

”Yes, sir!” Hundreds of soldiers marched with firm, united steps, like a black torrent surging into the battlefield.

Even the fully charged Burning Sky Blue Flame Bulls couldn’t inflict fatal harm upon these well-armored elite troops; what chance did other beasts have? Sharp claws scratched the smooth armor, leaving screeching whistles but no damage, while the soldiers’ slightly curved longswords drew blood with each slash, followed by the helpless cries of dying beasts.

Hundreds of black-armored warriors like an unyielding iron battalion advanced steadily, driving the beasts out of the city step by step.

”Hahaha, with this kind of strength, they dare come to Dingbian City seeking death? Do these beasts have water in their brains?” Wu Ziyue laughed heartily, then ordered, ”Prepare the horses, kill all these beasts till not one remains, let them remember this lesson forever.”
