Ms. Diviner: The Prodigal Daughter's Return

Chapter 882: Chapter 882: Don’t You Know This Street Is Under My Protection?

Han Yan walked slowly down the street and unconsciously arrived at the small alley where Han Yunyun had taken her before. At this moment, there were still many vendors on both sides of the alley selling things. Someone with sharp eyes saw her coming and greeted her warmly.

”Young Master Mu, hello!” The vendor greeting Han Yan was a middle-aged man who seemed scared the last time he saw Han Yan, but now he was very enthusiastic, without any fear as before.

”Ah, hello.” Han Yan returned with a smile.

”Young Master Mu, try this. I just got these goods fresh and sweet this morning.” The middle-aged man said, hurriedly grabbing two fruits from his stall and stuffing them into Han Yan’s hands.

Han Yan wanted to decline, but seeing the eager look in the middle-aged man’s eyes, she accepted them with a smile: ”Then I won’t be polite, thank you.”

”No need to mention it. Just something small, not worth much. Thank you for helping us last time, Young Master Mu.” The middle-aged man said, waving his hand with a smile.

At this time, others also noticed the situation over here. As soon as they saw Han Yan, they all gathered around, their faces filled with warm and grateful smiles, each wanting to give Han Yan the fruits they were selling.

Seeing the scene, Han Yan was both amused and moved, her heart was warm. She waved her hand to everyone: ”No need to be so courteous. I am just passing by today, and I don’t want to affect your business. I appreciate your goodwill. If I see something I like, I will buy it. We are all running small businesses, so don’t go to any extra expense.”

Once feared by everyone, Han Yan appeared unperturbed on the surface, but deep down, there was always a slight unease. Now seeing these simple and sincere smiles, smiles that bloomed just because of her, Han Yan felt her heart warm to the point of overflowing.

Upon hearing what Han Yan said, everyone reluctantly dispersed and returned to their stalls. Even from their stalls, they smiled and invited Han Yan to look at their goods.

Han Yan nodded with a smile, slowly browsing around step by step.

Just as Han Yan was looking at two stalls, a cry of alarm came from not far away.

”Let go of me! I have paid the protection fee!” A young woman’s scared voice reached Han Yan’s ears.

Oh-ho?

Han Yan followed the sound to see who had the guts to charge protection fees right under her nose as Big Playboy Mu?

”Are there people charging protection fees here?” Han Yan asked softly to the vendor in front of her.

”Yes, just a few copper coins each time, not much. And...” the vendor explained. A few copper coins, indeed not much, just the price of a few buns. No wonder people didn’t mind.

However, even at such a low level, charging protection fees was quite remarkable.

The vendor was about to explain further when Han Yan had already stepped over quickly and stood before the startled young woman. In front of her stall stood two people, and after seeing their faces, Han Yan almost burst out laughing. The reason was no other than these two standing together looked so comical. Looking at either of them alone seemed fine; both were boys of thirteen or fourteen, with a rowdy look, their faces rather charming. The issue was, one had very fair skin, and the other had very dark skin, making a striking contrast together. One black, one white, looked quite amusing.

The clothes on these two were patched, looking like they weren’t doing too well.

Obviously, how can they be doing well charging just a few copper coins as protection fees?

”Why are you shouting? I thought your hand was fair and tender, what’s wrong with just a touch? You didn’t lose any flesh, and I didn’t do anything else.” The dark-skinned boy said confidently.

The fair-skinned boy was looking a bit uneasy, tugged on the dark-skinned boy’s sleeve, and said in a low voice, ”Okay, we’ve got today’s meal money, let’s go.”

”Hmph, I’m not leaving. One day, I’ll make it big and shock everyone. By then, even if beauties come up wanting me to hold their hands, I won’t do it.” The dark-skinned boy murmured.

”Oh, I see, you’ve got big ambitions.” Han Yan’s voice suddenly sounded, a clear tease in her tone.

”Who are you? How dare you mock me, little lord!” The dark-skinned boy, who was initially aggressive, paused upon seeing Han Yan’s extremely beautiful face, and then his tone softened significantly, ”I advise you not to meddle in my business.” From claiming to be a little lord, he changed to ”me.”

Still a face lover? Han Yan found it amusing.

”Are you the ones charging protection fees here?” Han Yan asked, a smile on her lips. Charging such a small amount for protection fees must barely be enough to make ends meet. Han Yan was quite curious; these two boys seemed not to be just ordinary street thugs.

”So what if we are?” The dark-skinned boy puffed up his chest, ”What is it? Do you want to set up a stall here too?” He said, glancing at Han Yan and finding it odd because the person before him dressed like someone wealthy, not someone who’d be selling at a stall. Thinking of this, he was secretly a bit regretful, pondering that if this good-looking person set up a stall, they could perhaps lower the protection fee or not charge at all.

The fair-skinned boy seemed more sensitive than the dark-skinned one, uneasily tugging on the dark-skinned boy’s sleeve, indicating to stop talking and quickly leave. However, the dark-skinned boy’s eyes were nearly glued to Han Yan’s face, so he didn’t notice his companion’s small gestures.

This scene made Han Yan secretly laugh, but she didn’t show it on her face. Instead, she frowned and said coldly, ”You both are really brave. Do you know this alley is under my protection? Yet you dare charge protection fees here?”

Han Yan noticed something odd: the young woman who was glaring at the two boys just now was actually showing a worried look; the oddity was not that the woman started worrying, but it was strange that her concern was for these two boys. Now, this was interesting. Han Yan’s beautiful eyes glanced around, realizing that the situation was more complicated than she thought. Little did she know that this expression caught the eye of the dark-skinned boy, adding an exotic charm, leaving him dazed. He only snapped out of it when the fair-skinned boy kicked him.

”Who are you! Dare to fight for our territory?” The dark-skinned boy at least remembered the ”main issue” and glared and questioned Han Yan.

”I, well, I am called...” Han Yan smiled slightly, about to say her name.

The young woman, whose hand had been touched, hurriedly interrupted Han Yan.
