Ms. Diviner: The Prodigal Daughter's Return

Chapter 187: 187 If you’re going to pretend, go all the way

”How does it look, can you understand it?” Seeing Mu Hanyan staring at the Star Divination Technique for a long time without speaking, Qu Shanling anxiously asked.

”This should be the Star Divination Technique, which is also the foundation for a Star Divination Master’s stability and survival. How could you easily bring it out?” Instead of answering his question, Mu Hanyan asked in bafflement.

”This...” Qu Shanling then realized he had been too eager and had forgotten the rules of a Star Divination Master, somewhat at a loss for an explanation.

”If you won’t say, then never mind.” Mu Hanyan didn’t have a habit of prying into others’ privacy, and she wasn’t very interested in the Star Divination Skill either; she merely used the name of a ’god-man’ to cover her own secrets, so she didn’t bother to ask further and walked outside.

She wasn’t interested, which is why she couldn’t bother with Qu Shanling, but in Qu Shanling’s eyes, it came off as arrogance. Yes, arrogance!

Whether a Star Divination Master or a god-man, to maintain the image of a noble figure merely to make a living, those in this profession always adopted certain postures. Intentionally or not, they had to display some arrogance, even if they were starving to death. When a rich target came, they couldn’t show their eagerness; saliva might flow like a river in private, but they had to endure it. They had to display arrogance and disdain; it was the only way to make a grand profit every three years by opening only once.

”Young Master Nan, please wait.” Qu Shanling hurriedly stopped Mu Hanyan. As a Star Divination Master, he knew the defects of one; once they started acting, they had to keep it up, even in a thunderstorm, and never reveal their true selves. That is, whether Mu Hanyan was truly arrogant or feigning it, once she left the room, she would never come back.

Mu Hanyan, unaware of the numerous thoughts flashing through his mind in that instant, Hearing this stopped and turned her head to look at him.

”Honestly speaking, this Star Divination Technique concerns my life and death. If I cannot unravel its mysteries, my life will be in jeopardy,” Qu Shanling said with a face full of distress.

”Oh?” Mu Hanyan became more curious and waited for him to continue.

”My master, who lived a reclusive life, didn’t have much fame, but his Star Divination Skill was unparalleled in this world. It is said that a Star Divination Master can calculate the heavens, the earth, life, and death, declaring the indeterminate and determining the universe. However, to my knowledge, the only person who truly had this ability was my master. Perhaps there are others, but I have never met them.

Before he died, my master once said that around the age of forty-five, I would face a massive life-threatening crisis. If I overcame it, I could live a long life, even have a glimpse of the Heavenly Secret and overcome natural limits of birth and death. If I couldn’t get through it, I would die a wrongful death and not end well, even suffer disgrace and contempt for thousands of years after death,” Qu Shanling said with reverence when talking about his master, but his expression turned grim when mentioning his master’s prediction.

”Wait a moment,” Mu Hanyan interrupted, asking, ”How old are you this year?”

Looking at Qu Shanling, he should have well exceeded the forty-five years mentioned by his master, right? What was there to worry about?

”I just turned forty-three a few days ago,” Qu Shanling replied.

”What?” Mu Hanyan looked surprised at Qu Shanling’s white hair and the wrinkles at the corners of his eyes. No matter how one looked, he seemed like an old man in his seventies, how could he be only forty-three.

”Are you doing too many guilty deeds, so you can’t sleep at night? How could your hair turn white and your face wrinkle so much at just forty-three?” Mu Hanyan said with disbelief.

”Well,” Qu Shanling hesitated a little, then said rather sheepishly, ”I dyed my hair white myself, and the wrinkles came from frowning too often. Stretching them out will take care of it.”
