Ms. Diviner: The Prodigal Daughter's Return

Chapter 179: 179 diligently studies the Flattery Skill

”Sorry, old man has no money, I can’t afford these medicinal herbs, I’ve bothered you.” Wenren Qingqiu said after clasping his hands in greeting. Although his eyes showed reluctance, he still turned and walked toward the exit.

Seeing him leave so neatly, Mu Nan was taken aback and didn’t react for a moment, then he grew respectful.

In fact, with his status, it wasn’t about buying, even if it were for free, Mu Nan would eagerly agree, and might even pay him instead. Yet, this man did not hint at wanting anyone to give it to him directly, not showing any intention of taking advantage.

Mu Hanyan, however, noticed something.

”Wait, Senior Wenren, we will gift these medicinal herbs to you,” Mu Hanyan quickly said.

”What, gift them to me?” Wenren Qingqiu was stunned.

”Yes, gifted to you, Senior,” Mu Hanyan said generously.

”This... this doesn’t seem quite right,” Wenren Qingqiu hesitated.

Mu Nan and the others found it odd. As a master of the Long Yan Academy and a respected figure across the entire Holy Court Continent, Wenren Qingqiu was reverently treated wherever he went. People who wanted to curry favor with him were too numerous to count; he should have been used to such treatment. Why then did he seem so naive in this regard?

Mu Hanyan intuitively realized that this Master Wenren was probably the type who rarely ventured out – an old scholar of sorts. Though unlike an ordinary scholar, his cultivation was worlds apart, yet he was unacquainted with worldly matters and had a very simple and honest nature. Hence, he hadn’t thought of taking advantage just now.

”What is wrong with it, Senior? Long Yan Academy is the top institution in Anyun Country and has a distinguished reputation even across the entire Holy Court Continent. Senior Wenren, as a master of Long Yan Academy, embodies virtue and talent and has nurtured countless people, serving as a role model for us juniors. Being able to assist Senior Wenren, and being able to support Long Yan Academy, is our pride,” Mu Hanyan spoke with righteous fervor.

Here comes the flattery! Seeing Mu Hanyan’s face full of vigorous righteousness, Mu Nan and the others couldn’t help but turn their faces away. Only the Big Playboy Mu could flatter in such a grand and awe-inspiring manner.

Zirong inwardly sighed. Those sycophants, including himself, were simply amateurs in front of the Big Playboy. Their flattery was not at all classy. Look at Mu Hanyan’s flattery – each time full of grandeur, making one feel thoroughly comfortable and almost floating to heaven! He indeed had much to learn from the Young Master, not only the meticulous thoughts but also the Flattery Skill which he needed to earnestly study.

As Mu Hanyan had guessed, Wenren Qingqiu had been selected by Long Yan Academy since his youth and had spent decades there in arduous cultivation, hardly ever leaving its grounds. Later, becoming a Holy Dragon Master and focusing on teaching the Academy Disciples, he rarely went out and was unaccustomed to such flattery.

Naturally, Wenren Qingqiu was quite delighted by Mu Hanyan’s flattery. Long Yan Academy was his pride, and becoming a Holy Dragon Master was the most prideful and satisfying achievement of his life.

The more Wenren Qingqiu looked at Mu Hanyan, the more he liked him. Unfortunately, Long Yan Academy had very strict criteria for accepting disciples; otherwise, he would have loved to recruit Mu Hanyan on the spot.

”If Senior refuses to accept even these humble medicinal herbs, it would mean rejecting our goodwill, refusing our modest contribution to Long Yan Academy. If that were to spread, how could we hold our heads high in the future? We might as well hang ourselves with a rope right now,” Mu Hanyan pressed while the iron was hot, continuing to speak.
