Ms. Diviner: The Prodigal Daughter's Return

Zhao Sinin had indeed heard of Mu Hanyan’s great reputation but had no idea what he looked like. He only saw that Fourth Miss Zhao’s attitude towards Mu Hanyan was very strange; as soon as she saw him, she couldn’t take her eyes off him, now gritting her teeth and then furrowing her brows in thought. Even after he had gone, she hid behind the corner, insisting on watching him leave before she was able to rest at ease.

Wasn’t this the classic behavior of a young girl in the throes of her first love, shy yet unable to hold herself back? As for the gritted teeth, to him, it was a sign of the resentment a girl feels when her affections are not reciprocated.

Hmm, the more Zhao Sinin thought about it, the surer he was that he had not guessed wrong and his wariness towards Fourth Miss Zhao’s continuously watched pretty-faced rival grew stronger. No doubt, he did know that he was a bit older and could only be considered to have regular looks. In his eyes, Mu Hanyan was definitely deserving of the title of pretty-faced, and his attractiveness on the field of love was a whole level above that of a middle-aged gentleman like himself.

Thinking these thoughts, Zhao Sinin even felt a little proud: it seemed that living for an extra twenty or so years did have its benefits. Look how high my emotional intelligence is; I saw through the little girl’s thoughts at a glance.

”He is Mu Hanyan!” Fourth Miss Zhao said with a full load of hatred.

It was this Mu Hanyan who had caused her to ruin her clothes in the great hall before a crowd, almost as if she was streaking, how could she not hate him?

”What, he is Mu Hanyan?” Zhao Sinin’s expression became a bit strange. He had thought it was a romantic rival, so how could it be Mu Hanyan? According to Xian’er, wasn’t there supposed to be an irreconcilable hatred between her and Mu Hanyan? Could it be that he had guessed wrong?

Zhao Sinin had not known for more than two days after returning, because of Fourth Miss Zhao’s deliberate concealment, and was not aware of her streaking, nor understood the depth of their hatred. Hence his doubts arose.

”What’s wrong, cousin?” Fourth Miss Zhao saw Zhao Sinin’s odd expression and asked curiously.

”Oh, I’m just a little puzzled. Aren’t you supposed to be on bad terms with him? Yet, it feels like your attitude towards him is rather odd?” Zhao Sinin’s emotional intelligence was not as high as he thought, and he just blurted out whatever came to mind.

”Oh, you find that odd.” Fourth Miss Zhao, who was skilled at navigating the affections of men, having much higher emotional intelligence than Zhao Sinin, quickly discerned the meaning behind his expression. Her eyes rolled as she spoke, ”Cousin, I won’t hide it from you anymore, I actually liked Mu Hanyan, and had devoted all my thoughts to him. However, not only did he not appreciate it, but he also humiliated me in every possible way, causing me to lose all face and become the laughingstock of Heishi City. Xian’er, Xian’er, how miserable my fate is!”

To perform this emotional scene convincingly, Fourth Miss Zhao did not spare any effort, even using the name Xian’er, which she detested to the core—it made her want to throw up.

Her voice choked, and she seemed ready to burst into tears, appearing so pitiable that even the most hard-hearted person witnessing it would feel compassion, let alone Zhao Sinin, who was completely smitten by her.

”How can there be such blind people in this world! Xian’er, rest assured, if he does not know how to cherish you, your cousin does. I’ll be sure to take great care of you, and never let you be harmed again.” Moved with pity, Zhao Sinin embraced Zhao Xian’er tightly.

Although it somewhat bothered him that Fourth Miss Zhao had once liked someone else, it was only an unrequited affection that had gone no further – his Goddess was still pure and impeccable, which greatly relieved Zhao Sinin, even filling him with a sense of gratefulness.

The more hopelessly in love a woman was, the more self-respecting she was, he thought, and he even started to feel grateful towards Mu Hanyan.

Little did he know that his Goddess had already been indecently exposed, and as for what might have happened behind closed doors, he was all the more ignorant. Content with himself, he wore a bright green hat of cuckoldry.
