Quick Transmigration: The Cannon Fodder's Comeback in the Era Tales

Chapter 604: Chapter 604: Counterattack of the Original Female Lead 39

Yuan Chun is someone with memories of two lifetimes. She knows that the dignified and aloof Mrs. Yan, who seems unattainable and high above, actually has the heart of a gentle mother-in-law beneath her surface.

Yuan Chun nodded with a smile, ”Alright, next time you’re not working, take me to the department store. I need to buy some daily necessities for school. I’ve heard that during the first year of university, you have to live on campus.”

The smile on Mrs. Yan’s face disappeared in an instant, ”My dear daughter-in-law, living on campus is so inconvenient. Why don’t we talk to the school and have you live at home instead?”

”Mom, our home is probably very far from the school. Yan Hui said our university is in the suburbs.”

”True, commuting back and forth would take one or two hours, which is really inconvenient.” Mrs. Yan was almost on the verge of tears; she just wanted a sweet and soft daughter.

The young daughter-in-law has just come home and hasn’t stayed long before having to live on campus. How could she develop a good relationship with her sweet and soft daughter-in-law?

”Mom, we probably don’t have to stay on campus during the weekends. Yan Hui and I will come back every weekend to visit you and Dad.” Yuan Chun comforted her mother-in-law.

Mrs. Yan was delighted again, ”Alright then, you must remember to come back every weekend to gather with us. I’ll make delicious food for you both.”

”Mom, you’ve got a daughter-in-law now and seem to have forgotten about your son.” Yan Hui entered the room, pretending to act jealous.

Mrs. Yan glared at him and scoffed, ”What’s so great about a brat like you? Of course, my sweet and soft daughter-in-law is better.”

”Second Brother, I’m losing favor here.” Yan Hui looked pitifully at Second Brother Yan.

Second Brother Yan smiled slightly, ”Why are you jealous of your younger sister-in-law? As a husband, you should let your wife have her way more often.”

Yan Jun laughed heartily, ”Second Brother, you haven’t married a wife yet, but you already understand how husbands and wives should get along. I think Aunt should hurry up and find you a wife.”

”Don’t talk nonsense. A wife is not something you can just marry casually.” Second Brother Yan glared at his fifth cousin, placing the luggage he carried in the corner.

Mrs. Yan took her young daughter-in-law to the yard, mixed a basin of warm water, and took out a new towel for Yuan Chun to freshen up.

Feeling watched closely, and seeing the expression on Mrs. Yan’s face that seemed eager to help her wash her face, Yuan Chun felt a little uneasy, ”Thank you, Mom. Do you have a toothbrush? I’d like one.”

”Yes, yes, yes, I’ll go find one for you.”

Once Mrs. Yan left, Yuan Chun breathed a sigh of relief. Her mother-in-law was too enthusiastic, and she felt a bit overwhelmed.

Perhaps noticing her discomfort, Mrs. Yan then went to the kitchen to cook, letting Yuan Chun rest in her room.

But Yuan Chun couldn’t really rest, so she went to the kitchen to lend a hand to her mother-in-law. Soon, a table of sumptuous dishes was ready.

Besides braised pork knuckles, there was also red braised fish, ribs and radish soup, stewed eggs...

After the meal, Yuan Chun got up, wanting to help wash the dishes, but Mrs. Yan pulled her back, laughing, ”Don’t worry about it. We women cook, and washing dishes is the men’s job.”

Only then did Yuan Chun remember that the Yan Family seemed to have this rule: women cook, men wash dishes. No wonder every time after they eat, Yan Hui would rush to wash the dishes.

Yuan Chun chuckled, glancing at Yan Hui tidying up the table.

Taking the opportunity, Mrs. Yan told Yuan Chun, ”Your grandparents and second uncle’s family live in the army compound. When you have time on the weekend, I’ll take you to visit.”

”Your older brother works in the department. He went on a mission a few days ago, and it’s uncertain when he’ll come back. When he does, I’ll have Yan Jun drive you and Yan Hui to the department to see your older brother.”
