From Broken Family to Life Winner: A Reborn Mother's Journey

The joy Su Li felt when Little Tang Mo spoke again was as immense as when she had rescued him from the human traffickers.

How could she not be overjoyed? How could she not cry?

The agonizing torment of the past few weeks, the shadow cast by Little Tang Mo’s muteness, vanished in an instant.

Su Li and Little Tang Mo’s cries were a mixture of joy, relief, and pain.

The kind man who had chased after the car ran back, panting, to the sound of their crying.

”I couldn’t catch them. The car was going too fast and disappeared in a flash.”

Seeing Su Li and Little Tang Mo clinging to each other and sobbing, he was baffled. ”What’s going on?”

The owner of the repair shop, who was standing nearby, explained.

”The boy was ill and couldn’t speak before. But today, he saw his mother in danger and suddenly started talking. They’re just overcome with joy.”

The onlookers had mixed expressions, but they were happy for them too.

”Wow, things like that really happen? It’s wonderful that he can speak now.”

Little Tang Mo hadn’t been able to utter a word. In the end, both mother and son had come to accept the fact that he might never speak. Yet, the shock of seeing Su Li in danger had spurred him to find his voice.

It sounded like something out of a fantasy novel, utterly incredible, yet it was real.

”Alright, ma’am, don’t cry now. Tell us where you’re hurt. You need to get to a hospital right away.”

The shop owner said gently, and the others chimed in.

”That’s right! What was that all about? Kidnapping someone in broad daylight? That’s terrifying, and so brazen!”

”Exactly. We need to call the police.”

”Let my boy go, he’s a fast runner.” An older woman patted her son on the shoulder, and the young man immediately took off running.

Su Li and Little Tang Mo finally calmed down and stopped crying.

Su Li had scraped her forehead when she jumped out. Her face was streaked with blood and tears, yet she held Little Tang Mo’s hand and couldn’t stop smiling.

She wiggled her fingers, then stood up and moved around a bit.

”I don’t think I broke anything. It’s not a serious injury.”

Her elbows and legs hurt, but she could still move them, so they were probably just scrapes.

”Goodness me, you took such a hard fall. I winced just hearing the thud, and here you are smiling.”

The shop owner, who had run out at the very beginning, sounded resigned.

The older woman who sold sesame-paste soup in the alley came out, picked up the lunchbox Su Li had dropped, and gasped when she saw her.

”It’s always so peaceful around here. How could something like this suddenly happen?”

Su Li shook her head. ”I don’t know. I had just come out and was waiting to cross the street when the car suddenly stopped and they tried to drag me in.”

Hearing her account made the crowd even more afraid.

If there had been a reason, it somehow wouldn’t have been as frightening. A sudden, random attack was far more terrifying.

Who knew when they might suddenly come for you?

”Good heavens, the police have to investigate this thoroughly and catch those guys. This is too scary otherwise.”

The older woman nodded, then turned back to Su Li.

”You still need to get that wound treated. Go to the hospital first.”

”Yeah, Mom, let’s go to the hospital, quickly,” Little Tang Mo urged.

Su Li hesitated. ”But didn’t someone call the police? Maybe we should wait for them to come first.”

She forced a smile. ”Mom’s fine. It doesn’t hurt.”

”The police should be here soon...”

Not far away, at the entrance to the residential complex, Wu Sheng parked his car and saw a crowd gathered in the distance.

’What’s going on over there?’

He had contacted Su Li that morning, and she’d told him she didn’t want to see his mother again. Wu Sheng found it strange and had been thinking about it all day. After work, still feeling uneasy, he decided to come find her.

Seeing the crowd, he hesitated for a moment before walking over.

’A crowd this big means something must have happened,’ he thought. ’If I can help, I should.’

Wu Sheng strode closer. Halfway there, the people in front of him suddenly parted, and he saw Su Li in the middle of the crowd.

Wu Sheng’s expression changed instantly, and he rushed forward.

”Su Li, what happened?”

The crowd was helping Su Li into the shop to sit down when she saw Wu Sheng approaching and froze for a second.

As Wu Sheng got closer and saw the state she was in, his pupils contracted sharply.

”What happened?”

He stepped forward to examine the gash on her forehead, then looked her up and down. ”Are you hurt anywhere else? Try to move.”

”No,” Su Li said, shaking her head, but Wu Sheng was still not convinced.

As he was examining her, the bystanders pieced together the story for him, one person talking after another.

When he heard that Su Li had been the target of a kidnapping and had jumped from the moving car, Wu Sheng gritted his teeth in fury.

”Which son of a bitch did this? They’re courting death!”

Wu Sheng bent down, swept Su Li into his arms, and declared, ”We’re going to the hospital.”

”The police will be here any minute,” Su Li said quickly. ”I’m fine.”

”You call this fine?” Wu Sheng’s expression was more terrifying than she had ever seen it.

He looked at the crowd. ”When the police arrive, tell them to wait, or to come find us at the hospital.”

”Let’s go, Little Point.”

Wu Sheng strode off with Su Li in his arms. No one in the crowd dared to stop him.

Little Tang Mo said nothing, simply picked up Su Li’s bag and followed.

”You’ve got some nerve, jumping from a moving car,” Wu Sheng said, sprinting to his car and placing Su Li inside.

”Little Point, close the door.”

As soon as the door shut, the car sped off.

”Mom, just hang in there. We’ll be there soon.”

Little Tang Mo said, watching Su Li with concern.

”That’s right, hang in there,” Wu Sheng added, only to suddenly realize something.

He snapped his head around to look at Little Tang Mo.

”You can talk?”

Hearing that, Su Li couldn’t help but laugh.

”Yes, Little Mo is talking.”

”Little Mo, did you see them drag me into the car?”

Little Tang Mo nodded. ”Yes, I saw it.”

Su Li couldn’t resist pulling Little Tang Mo into a hug and kissing his forehead.

”Thank you...”

From the driver’s seat, Wu Sheng watched the mother and son in the rearview mirror and let out a long sigh of relief.

”Thank god you’re okay. Otherwise...”

Su Li treated Little Tang Mo as her own son, and he felt the same way about her.

He hadn’t been able to speak a word before, but seeing Su Li in danger had suddenly made him talk.

Wu Sheng believed that the force that had allowed Little Tang Mo to speak was born from his love for Su Li.

Hearing Wu Sheng’s words, Little Tang Mo gripped Su Li’s hand, a wave of retrospective fear washing over him.

Only then did he realize that her hand had been trembling the entire time.

”Mom, why are your hands shaking?”

Su Li herself was taken aback. ”Huh? I guess I’m just nervous.”

A moment ago, she’d been in a kind of surreal state and felt fine, but now, a wave of pain suddenly washed over her entire body.

”Nervous, my foot. That’s from the pain.” Wu Sheng slammed on the brakes, stopping the car, then opened the door and carried Su Li out.

”From now on, don’t you dare say it doesn’t hurt or that you’re fine. I’m not blind!”

Wu Sheng sprinted into the emergency room with Su Li in his arms. ”Doctor, over here!”

Hearing the murderous intensity in his voice, the doctor couldn’t help but shiver before rushing over.

”She jumped from a moving car. Give her a full-body checkup, be thorough.”

Wu Sheng placed Su Li on a gurney and swiftly removed her scarf and padded jacket.

The results of the examination were relatively good.

”No broken bones, just multiple soft tissue contusions. Her elbows and knees are scraped up, and with the cut on her forehead, she’s going to be in pain for a couple of days.”
