From Broken Family to Life Winner: A Reborn Mother's Journey

When Su Li finally stopped talking, both Wu Sheng and Little Tang Mo let out a sigh of relief.

Wu Sheng nudged Little Tang Mo’s arm. ”Little Point, I’m a little jealous of you.”

Little Tang Mo looked over at him, puzzled.

Little Tang Mo had learned the word ”jealousy” and understood what it meant. He just didn’t understand why Wu Sheng would say such a thing.

”The gift you gave successfully took the number one spot in her heart. Mine used to be number one.”

Wu Sheng sighed and shook his head. ”My gift got knocked off the top spot by yours.”

Little Tang Mo’s eyebrows twitched almost imperceptibly, betraying a hint of pride.

Wu Sheng’s sharp eyes caught it.

”Little Point, I saw that! I saw that smug look of yours!”

He ruffled Little Tang Mo’s hair. ”So you’re a little rascal, too!”

Hearing the commotion, Su Li came out. ”What’s going on?”

Little Tang Mo looked back at her, the picture of innocence with a completely pure expression.

Wu Sheng watched in stunned admiration, admitting defeat.

”It’s nothing, nothing at all.”

He had to go to work, so he had just dropped by for a quick visit to check on Su Li and the boy. Seeing that everything was fine, he prepared to leave.

Su Li saw him out. Seeing the smile gracing Su Li’s features, Wu Sheng couldn’t help but smile as well.

”It’s been so long. It’s good to finally see you smile again.”

Su Li let out a breath. ”I’ve just suddenly seen a glimmer of hope. I feel like Little Mo is getting better.”

Wu Sheng nodded in agreement. ”I see it too. His condition is steadily improving.”

Hearing his confirmation, Su Li felt a weight lift from her heart.

”I believe he’ll get better and better. He’ll gradually start to laugh, to cry, and become more lively. And one day, he’ll start talking again.”

Wu Sheng nodded firmly. ”Mhm, I believe in you, and I believe in Little Point.”

After a moment’s thought, he glanced at the time and said to Su Li, ”Su Li, once Little Point’s condition improves a little more, shouldn’t you start thinking seriously about school?”

Su Li paused at his words.

Because of Little Tang Mo, she had been continuously absent from her classes for over half a month.

Since the semester began, Su Li had taken far too much time off for various reasons.

She knew this wasn’t good, but Little Tang Mo’s situation was more urgent than her classes.

Weighing her priorities, she had chosen Little Tang Mo.

But she couldn’t keep skipping class like this forever. Even before Wu Sheng mentioned it, Su Li had been thinking about it.

Seeing her expression, Wu Sheng continued, ”Su Li, now that Little Point’s condition is showing some improvement, I wanted to offer a suggestion.”

”Go on,” Su Li nodded.

”The situation is unique right now, so it’s both necessary and normal for you to be completely focused on Little Point. But as his condition gradually improves, that can’t continue indefinitely.”

”You need to gradually return to your normal life, and so does he. It’s for the good of you both. Even if Little Point... still can’t speak for the time being, once he’s mostly recovered, he needs to have normal contact with the outside world again.”

Su Li understood what Wu Sheng meant.

Wu Sheng gave her a moment to process his words before continuing.

”You’re probably very worried, but Little Point can’t be isolated from the outside world for too long, can he?”

”If you’re always by his side, his world will shrink to just you, and yours will shrink to just him. That’s fine in the short term, but over time, the psychological pressure on him will only grow.”

Little Tang Mo was far more mature than other children his age. His precociousness made him seem like a little adult.

He understood things that adults assumed he wouldn’t.

Therefore, the pressure on him was bound to increase.

Wu Sheng was reminding and advising Su Li at an appropriate time, based on the circumstances.

After hearing him out, Su Li exhaled and nodded emphatically.

”I know. I understand what you mean. I’ll think about it seriously.”

Wu Sheng grunted in acknowledgment. ”And what about custody? Do you plan to sue?”

”I’m preparing for it.” Su Li bit her lip. ”Wu Sheng, if I adopt Little Mo, then...”

’First a divorce, and now a child on top of that...’

Before Su Li could finish, she saw Wu Sheng shaking his head.

”Su Li, if you want to adopt him, then do it. Follow your heart and don’t leave yourself with any regrets.”

Wu Sheng looked her straight in the eye. ”If you adopt him, then raise him well. Not every child is a burden. If you and Little Point both become better people because of each other, then that’s a good thing.”

Su Li hadn’t expected him to say that and stared at him, dumbfounded.

Wu Sheng smiled. ”Don’t overcomplicate things. Adopting Little Point won’t change who you are. You’ll still be you, still be Su Li. You won’t turn into a different person. There’s no need to overthink it or worry so much about the future.”

Wu Sheng understood how important Little Tang Mo was to Su Li; he had seen it all.

He was absolutely certain that if their roles were reversed, Su Li would think the exact same way.

If Su Li could abandon a child in Little Tang Mo’s situation, she wouldn’t be the Su Li he admired.

Wu Sheng had encountered many people in his life with inconsistent values and double standards. This was most obvious in the stories he’d heard about matchmaking.

Many men demand that the women they’re set up with be kind and filial. But if a woman is genuinely kind and filial—say, by helping people in need or supporting her own parents—then they suddenly have a problem with it.

They’d complain that she was neglecting her future family by helping others, or that a woman wanting to support her parents was simply a burden.

Their expectations are a complete double standard.

Wu Sheng hated that kind of double standard.

Su Li looked at Wu Sheng, speechless for a moment.

Seeing her expression, Wu Sheng said, ”Stop overthinking it. Go on back inside. Little Point is definitely watching the door for you.”

Su Li broke into a smile. ”Okay. You’d better get going.”

”I’m off.” Wu Sheng waved. He was just about to head down the stairs when he suddenly turned back.

He raised his hand and gently tapped her on the head. ”While you’re in a good mood today, I want to say a couple more things.”

”Go on,” Su Li said, covering her head protectively.

”This is a special time, so you’re not allowed to fall for me. Let’s not talk about romance for now.”

Su Li was completely taken aback by his words. ”What? You...”

’He... he doesn’t like me anymore?’

”Why so shocked? Afraid I don’t like you anymore? Getting nervous?” Wu Sheng raised an eyebrow.

Su Li stammered, ”I... I’m not nervous.”

Wu Sheng chuckled. ”You’re obviously nervous.”

He pointed to himself. ”I know, I’ve probably seemed especially reliable and dazzling in your eyes lately, but...”

He paused. ”This is a really unusual time. I’m worried that your feelings for me might get mixed up with things like gratitude... and that wouldn’t be right.”

Wu Sheng was still the same old Wu Sheng.

He had been running around nonstop for her lately, staying by her side. He wasn’t her husband, but he was more reliable than one.

But he hadn’t done all this with the intention of making her feel indebted. He didn’t want to pressure her, and he certainly didn’t want her to accept him out of gratitude!

That was why he said they wouldn’t talk about their relationship for now.

Wu Sheng stroked his chin thoughtfully. ”Let’s wait until this period is over to think about romance. I’m not the kind of scoundrel who takes advantage of someone in a vulnerable position.”

”I’m leaving.”

He waved, and this time, he really left.
