The Duke's Pampered Darling is So Scheming

Chapter 329: Chapter 329: In the Limelight

The incessant rain finally let up after they left Qingzhou.

Autumn was now in full swing, the sky vast and the clouds sparse.

Ye Chutang and her companions had a smooth journey along the main road back to the Capital City.

The carriage slowly rolled into the city. Ye Yunfeng glanced back and scoffed, ”Those people are finally gone.”

He had noticed people secretly following them for a while. At first, he was on high alert. However, he later realized they were keeping a constant, respectful distance—more like protectors than stalkers—so he didn’t say anything.

Ye Chutang wasn’t surprised he had noticed. After all, if he lacked even that much awareness, he would have died three years ago.

Xiao Wu, who had been sleeping in her arms, stirred at the sound. She woke up and drowsily rubbed her eyes.

When she realized she was still in the swaying carriage, a flash of anxiety filled her eyes, and she instinctively clutched Ye Chutang’s sleeve.

Ye Chutang lowered her gaze and gently straightened the little girl’s messy hair.

The familiar, faint, cool scent from Chutang’s clothes gradually calmed Xiao Wu, who snuggled affectionately into the crook of her sister’s neck.

Seeing this, Ye Yunfeng paused, slightly taken aback. He then instinctively glanced at Ye Chutang.

’Xiao Wu... doesn’t seem as afraid of carriages as she used to be, does she?’

Before, even if Xiao Wu didn’t cry, she would have been anxious and frightened for a long time, needing to be held and repeatedly coaxed.

But now...

Ye Chutang had noticed this as well, and not just today, but much earlier.

’It seems... the change in Xiao Wu started when they left Qingzhou.’

The change was subtle, but Chutang had raised her since she was a baby in swaddling clothes. How could she not notice?

At first, Ye Chutang had thought it was because the high fever had left Xiao Wu a bit weak. Now, however...

But whatever the reason, it was a good thing.

Ye Chutang gently pinched Xiao Wu’s cheek and asked with a smile, ”Xiao Wu, we’re back in the Capital City. What do you want to eat? We can have Yun Feng go buy it in a bit.”

Just as she’d expected, Xiao Wu’s eyes instantly lit up.

Seeing her expression, Ye Yunfeng couldn’t help but laugh. ”Look at you! Go on, what do you want to eat? It’s your fourth brother’s treat!”

Xiao Wu’s eyes got even brighter.

She raised her little hand, ready to take full advantage of her fourth brother’s offer, but then she suddenly remembered something. She turned to Ye Chutang, cupped her hand slightly, and made a drinking gesture.

Ye Chutang understood at once and raised an eyebrow. ”What’s this? You want to go to Yunlai Tavern?”

Xiao Wu nodded eagerly.

When the tavern opened, her big sister had already left for Feiyun Temple outside the city, so Xiao Wu had to stay obediently at home as well.

She still hadn’t had a chance to see it properly!

Hearing this, Ye Yunfeng perked up. ”That’s right! How could I forget! Chutang, the shops are all up and running. Don’t you want to go see for yourself?”

Ye Chutang considered it for a moment, then lifted the curtain and called out to Ye Jingyan, ”Yan, change of plans. Head to Yunlai Tavern.”

...

It was now early October, and the weather in the Capital City was noticeably colder than when they had left.

However, the streets were as bustling as ever, with people coming and going.

After rounding two bends, the road ahead suddenly opened up.

Ye Yunfeng said, ”Chutang, we’re here!”

The carriage stopped, instantly attracting the attention of many people.

”Isn’t that the Ye Family’s carriage?”

”That’s the Ye Family’s third son and fourth son! Looks like they’re back in the capital?”

Thanks to Yunlai Tavern, the Ye Family’s name was currently on the rise. The siblings’ appearance immediately drew a great deal of attention.

Ye Chutang took a step, then suddenly froze, her head turning to look to one side.
