The Duke's Pampered Darling is So Scheming

Chapter 317: Chapter 317: Collapse

He let out a single, sharp cry before suddenly falling silent.

Immediately after, his eyes lost focus, and he collapsed limply to the ground.

Beside him, a tall, upright figure stood quietly.

It was Shen Yanchuan!

He had moved with extreme speed, striking before the man could even react!

It was all over in an instant. The commotion here hadn’t attracted anyone’s attention.

Ye Chutang, who had witnessed the entire scene from a short distance away, held her breath.

This wasn’t the first time she had seen Shen Yanchuan in action, but it was definitely the first time he had revealed his true strength in front of her.

As she watched that tall, slender figure walk back toward her, a single thought flashed through Ye Chutang’s mind—’He really must have been holding back when he pretended to fall off that cliff with me on Wulan Mountain.’

”What are you thinking about?”

Shen Yanchuan returned without a hitch, only to see Ye Chutang looking down slightly, as if lost in thought.

Hearing his voice, Ye Chutang looked up and slowly gave him a thumbs-up.

”Fast work, Princely Heir.”

Shen Yanchuan: ”...”

For some reason, hearing Ye Chutang’s unreserved praise brought him no sense of relief or joy. He just felt that something was off about it.

She tilted her head up slightly to look at him, her dark eyes clear and bright. It was indeed a rare compliment from her.

She had actually said it with complete sincerity.

Shen Yanchuan choked, the rest of his words getting stuck in his throat.

Ye Chutang, seemingly unaware that she had said anything wrong, jutted her chin toward the door. ”Did you see what the situation is like inside?”

Shen Yanchuan composed himself and shook his head, then added, ”There’s a sound of hammering coming from behind the door. It sounds cavernous, almost like... they’re digging downward.”

Ye Chutang frowned.

The door wasn’t very wide, but from what Shen Yanchuan was saying, there was clearly more to it than met the eye.

She looked at Shen Yanchuan. ”Shall we go take a look?”

...

Arriving at the door, Ye Chutang glanced at the person lying on the ground.

Based on her experience, the man’s martial arts were at a fairly decent level. She had thought Shen Yanchuan would need some time to deal with him, but to her surprise, the fight was over in a single exchange.

’Incredible...’

No wonder he dared to break into this place alone at night.

At this moment, Ye Chutang seemed to have conveniently forgotten that she had also come alone.

As she usually did, she took out a small bottle and waved it under the man’s nose. Shen Yanchuan stood to the side with one hand on the door, waiting quite naturally as if he had already anticipated her actions.

”Done.”

Ye Chutang straightened up. Only then did Shen Yanchuan give a slight nod, pushing the door open a crack with a twist of his wrist.

The gap slowly widened, and the faint light of a candle could be seen shining through.

But looking further inside, it was deep and dark, with no end in sight.

’There’s a long corridor hidden behind this door!’

Along with it came the much clearer sound of clanging.

’It sounds familiar, like I’ve heard it somewhere before...’

Suddenly, inspiration struck. A guess surfaced in her mind, causing her eyes to widen in shock.

”They’re—”

RUMBLE—!

Before Ye Chutang could finish her sentence, a huge noise suddenly erupted from behind her!

The very ground trembled along with it!

Ye Chutang had a bad feeling and immediately turned to look, only to see the ground to her front-right suddenly cave in!

Someone cried out in alarm—

”Disaster! The mine collapsed!”

Such a huge commotion instantly alerted the entire mining site!

The once-quiet mine quickly became chaotic as people from all over rushed toward the location of the collapse!

Ye Chutang suddenly felt a tight grip on her wrist.

Shen Yanchuan’s eyes were sharp and cold as he gave the order without hesitation:

”Go!”
