The Duke's Pampered Darling is So Scheming

Chapter 288: Chapter 288: Ambush

Dusk descended, and a chill crept in from all directions, enveloping them.

Shaoyao glanced again at the tightly shut gates ahead and advised in a low voice, ”Miss, why don’t we go back for now? You have a delicate constitution. If you keep waiting like this, you’ll definitely get sick.”

Ye Shixian’s face was exceptionally pale, but she shook her head upon hearing this.

”I’m not leaving until she comes back today!”

Shaoyao opened her mouth to speak, but thought better of it, ultimately swallowing her words and continuing to wait.

’In her opinion, the two families had already had a complete falling-out. Even if Ye Chutang returned, she would never offer any help.’

’Isn’t my mistress just asking for humiliation?’

After a turbulent day, and now having stood here from daylight until evening, Shaoyao’s legs were aching terribly.

She secretly stretched her legs, and as she looked at Ye Shixian’s stubborn expression, she couldn’t help but feel a flicker of resentment.

’If she knew it would come to this, why did she have to make things so ugly back then?’

’And now she has to come groveling like this. It’s a complete loss of face!’

In truth, Ye Shixian was also growing impatient from the wait, but right now, she had no other choice.

”Shaoyao, go and ask again if she’s really not coming back today.”

Shaoyao was extremely reluctant.

’The people of the Ye Mansion had treated them with extreme coldness. She’d already asked twice, and both times they’d just said they didn’t know. What could she possibly achieve by going a third time, other than getting the cold shoulder again?’

She remained rooted to the spot and tried to reason with her. ”Miss, she’s most likely avoiding you on purpose. There’s no point in continuing to wait!”

Ye Shixian shot her a cold look. ”What? Are my orders meaningless now?”

Shaoyao subtly pursed her lips and turned her head away. ”This servant is only thinking of your health. If you were to collapse, then in the future—”

Although her words were respectful, her expression was filled with obvious impatience.

Ye Shixian was so furious she laughed.

’Just great!’

’Now even a lowly servant girl dared to defy her!’

’When the tree falls, the monkeys scatter. Father has been exiled to Tongbei, and who knows if he’ll ever return in his lifetime. Mingze is gone too. There’s not a single person left to back me up!’

’In fact, she had long since noticed the insubordination stirring among the servants. She just hadn’t had the time to deal with it before, but now—’

Ye Shixian stared at her. ”Did you not understand what I said!”

Shaoyao was startled, and a flicker of fear finally appeared on her face, but she still tried to defend herself.

”Young Miss, this servant wouldn’t dare! This servant is just... just worried about you...”

Only then did she finally move her feet and walk forward.

Ye Shixian closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and suppressed the rage in her heart.

’They were still in Liuwan Lane, and who knew how many people were watching, both openly and in secret. She absolutely could not lose her composure.’

’As long as she could hold out until Ye Chutang returned... she had plenty of ways to drag her down too!’

However, just then, the sound of a carriage slowly approaching came from the end of the lane.

Ye Shixian’s heart leaped with joy, and she immediately whipped her head around to look!

She immediately strode forward. ”Cousin!”

The servant was forced to halt the carriage, stunned by Ye Shixian’s sudden appearance.

”...Why are you here?”

Ye Shixian couldn’t be bothered to waste words on him, her gaze fixed directly on the carriage.

The curtain hung silently, and the person inside seemed to have no intention of speaking with her.

Ye Shixian raised her voice. ”Cousin! Are you really going to stand by and watch our family be destroyed and still refuse to lend a hand?!”

’If Ye Chutang cared at all about her reputation, she would have to respond!’

Yet, the inside of the carriage remained utterly silent.

Ye Shixian could no longer hold back. She strode forward to rip open the curtain!
