The Duke's Pampered Darling is So Scheming

Chapter 251: Chapter 251: Aren’t You Reluctant, Big Sister?

Ye Yunfeng clearly disapproved of Han Tong’s actions.

”He went through all that trouble, only to be turned on by the very person he sent out. Serves him right!”

A faint smile touched Ye Chutang’s lips. ”Human greed is insatiable, like a snake trying to swallow an elephant. He and Zhao Hanguang were classmates, always competing openly and in secret. After he went to the Guanglu Temple, he was stuck in a subordinate position for a long time. It’s normal that he grew resentful.”

”But he really had some nerve, scheming during the polo match!”

Recalling the events of that day, Ye Yunfeng couldn’t help but shake his head.

”I remember they found a lot in the Han Family’s secret passage—countless gold, silver, and jewels. He had more than he could spend in several lifetimes, and now... it’s all gone!”

Ye Jingyan contemplated for a long while before finally voicing the question that had been weighing on his mind.

”Han Tong has always been cautious. How could he have made such a huge blunder this time? There are plenty of ways to take down Zhao Hanguang, yet he chose the one most prone to error.”

Ye Chutang seemed unconcerned as she took a sip of her tea.

”Everyone gets carried away sometimes. Perhaps he was certain his plan was foolproof, or perhaps... someone led him to believe it was.”

A thought struck Ye Jingyan. ”Big Sis, are you saying... Han Tong was set up?”

Ye Yunfeng froze. ”What?”

”With an incident at the polo match, Your Majesty was bound to investigate thoroughly. The horse would have been discovered sooner or later, and the poisoner couldn’t have escaped. Whoever he pointed his finger at would be the culprit.”

Ye Yunfeng’s brow furrowed slightly. ”But... the mastermind behind this went to such great lengths. It couldn’t have been just to get rid of Han Tong, right?”

”This was just the catalyst.”

Ye Jingyan, already understanding the crux of the matter, explained aloud,

”Han Tong has been in the court for years, and his connections are deeply entrenched and complex. Once he was exposed, he was bound to implicate a whole group of people. It actually saved us a lot of trouble.”

Ye Chutang’s eyes curved as she gave him an approving smile.

’Yan has always been sharp; he’s quick on the uptake.’

Ye Yunfeng, who had only understood half of it, scratched his head. ”So, someone wanted to use Han Tong to investigate others, and we just happened to benefit from it? Then who is the most likely person behind all this?”

Ye Chutang raised an eyebrow slightly.

”Actually—”

Suddenly, with a soft THUD, a purse fell from Xiao Wu’s arms.

The three siblings all looked over at the same time.

Ye Yunfeng murmured, ”The Princely Heir?”

The room fell silent for a moment.

Xiao Wu quickly picked the item up, carefully dusted it off, and cautiously tucked it away again.

Ye Yunfeng continued, ”Isn’t that the Princely Heir’s handkerchief? You haven’t returned it yet?”

Ye Chutang: ”...”

Ye Jingyan: ”...”

After an even quieter moment, Ye Chutang asked calmly,

”Xiao Wu, what are you doing with those things?”

For once, Xiao Wu looked a little embarrassed.

’I already washed the handkerchief! I’ll return it to the Young Master with all this silver later! But... but I just can’t bear to part with it, so... so I’m just keeping it on me for a little longer...’

Ye Chutang was silent for a moment.

”It’s alright. Our family isn’t short on money, so there’s no need to feel reluctant to part with it.”

Xiao Wu looked up with a pitiful expression.

’So... isn’t Big Sis reluctant to part with it, too?’

Ye Chutang: ”...???”

Ye Jingyan coughed. ”Big Sis is seriously injured. It’s normal that she hasn’t had time to deal with these things.”

Ye Yunfeng turned his head. ”Huh?”

Ye Jingyan took a deep breath. ”It’s fine to return it later. We should also prepare a generous gift to express our gratitude.”

Ye Yunfeng nodded repeatedly. ”That’s right! He did save Big Sis, after all! To show our sincerity, shouldn’t we pay him a formal visit?”

Ye Jingyan turned his head to look at him.

Ye Yunfeng was confused. ”Third Brother, why are you looking at me like that?”

”...It’s nothing.” Ye Jingyan’s expression returned to normal. ”You have to go back to the Imperial College tomorrow. How much of your schoolwork have you done?”

The color drained from Ye Yunfeng’s face.

”Oh, crap!”

The next second, he vanished from the spot.
