Myths Reawakened

“Sir Knight, I—”

“Cut it. If you want Twilight Despair, I’ll hand it to you after killing the Death Knight,” Auston cut Anastasia off. He would not leave Londan, and he did not care about the Church of Nature.

Flutter!

Sophelia descended from the sky and transformed into her human form, dressed extravagantly in a long dress. Perhaps thanks to the divine blood, her appearance remained the same as two years ago. She hadn’t undergone much change save for the slight redness of her eyes.

“Why the sudden change of plan, Auston?”

Sophelia glanced at Anastasia and figured out the reason herself. The unexpected visitor had kept him here.

Auston didn’t say anything. In his stead, Megan responded, “Your Majesty, this is Holy Maiden Anastasia of the Church of Darkness, coming to Londan to negotiate an alliance with Master to fight the Church of Nature and the Nature Knight.”

Bitch, I didn’t ask you! Sophelia shot Megan a glare. Their eye contact seemed to crackle with tension. The two women would’ve never been in conflict like this in the surface world, but things were different here.

Megan disliked Sophelia’s attempts at seduction, wanting nothing more than to swallow her when she went out alone at night; Sophelia also disliked Silvia’s substitute, believing that the shameless black dragon was her obstacle in replacing Auston’s dead spouse.

Sophelia didn’t really have such strong feelings for Auston. She had been perfectly fine without him for twenty and some years. It was just that the negative information made her want what she couldn’t have. Every time her attempt at seduction went ignored, her hatred for Megan grew. As time went by, things turned out like this.

Anastasia looked on in resignation. Hatred and killing drove everything in all parts of this world, and she was no exception. Compelled by hatred, she would bring about more killing and hatred.

When Anastasia saw the mirror in the sky, she was in the distant Frozen Land. Due to the disappearance of the seal, she brought the dark elves back to the headquarters of the Church of Darkness. When she confirmed that she merely existed in a world reflected by a mirror, she had wanted to disintegrate herself and end her painful life, yet the internal strife of the church kept her trapped.

After the dust settled, the Church of Nature invaded, led by its new pope, Nature Knight Senna.

It was a one-sided battle, with Elemental Mantra being unrivaled. Senna single-handedly destroyed the Church of Darkness’s headquarters and killed Pope Ivan.

Anastasia found a reason to struggle in life: to kill Senna and avenge her father. Only a chosen knight could take out a chosen knight. After a turbulent journey, she arrived in Londan and found Auston.

Unfortunately, the conversation didn’t go well. After losing her father, she saw the Nature Knight as her mortal enemy; after losing his wife, Auston saw the Death Knight as his mortal enemy. She couldn’t convince Auston to move on from his revenge since she had come for revenge.

The silence was broken by two sets of footsteps. Sophelia turned around and saw a man and a woman. Her brows furrowed in confusion, and then her expression crumbled in shock when she got a good look at the man’s face.

Megan had also gotten a clear look. Her eyes immediately turned crimson as she growled, “Death Knight, why are you here?”

Death Knight!

Auston stiffened, drawing Twilight Despair from the Void and covering his entire body with black light. His crimson eyes twisted as killing intent and hatred took over his thoughts.

“I’m not the Death Knight. You got the wrong person.”

Wayne waved his hands in denial. Sensing the violent killing intent locking onto him, he pushed Filomina away with a sweep of his hand. When he pulled his hand back, he drew White Night Creed to defend himself.

The next second, overwhelming Darkness swept toward him like a tsunami. A distorted dark face obscured the sky. As the red eyes looked down, formidable energy tides rose endlessly to isolate the space like physical walls, and the air thickened instantly, preventing motion.

The old man of this world is so strong! Wayne thought.

Twilight Despair tore through the darkness, clashing with White Night Creed. Wayne felt his arms go numb from the incredible force. The longbow almost flew out of his grip.

Growl—

The armor of black light covered Auston’s entire body. There was no mask to cover his face since there was no point in concealing his identity. His facial features twisted with red light shimmering in his eyes. The bulging blood vessels in his neck showed his agitated state.

Swinging Twilight Despair down with both hands, he pushed Wayne further, breaking through stone walls and statues for a hundred meters in the blink of an eye. The main house, which had been half collapsed, fell further apart. Darkness energy engulfed the rest of the structure until it lost its basic shape.

Filomina gaped into the distance in shock, confused by Auston’s unhinged reaction. She remembered clearly how Wayne had claimed to be the young master of the Lando family, and that returning to the Lando Estate would be like returning home.

Before Filomina could figure out the situation, Megan and Sophelia came up to her, radiating chilling energy. Their oppressive presence was terrifying.

She couldn’t beat either of them.

“Wai-wait. Wayne and I are not your enemies. He said that this was his home.” Filomina introduced herself as a member of the Church of Moonlight, and Wayne as the Moonlight Knight and the young master of the Lando family.

It didn’t work. Megan’s expression remained impassive, while Sophelia only scoffed.

Go on. Keep spinning the tale! x2

This damn woman is too beautiful. I’m gonna tear off her face! Sophelia stared at Filomina’s stunning face with jealousy, guessing that she was the Death Knight’s new sidepiece. She planned to capture Filomina alive to threaten the Death Knight with her. It didn’t matter if it would work; she would take her hostage first.

After a moment of consideration, Anastasia joined the fight, flanking Filomina from another side to complete the circle.

The Death Knight had come. If Auston managed to get his revenge today, perhaps he would be in a good enough mood to offer his help. Even if he didn’t, it wouldn’t be a problem. As long as he handed her Twilight Despair, she would seek out Senna for revenge on her own.

Trapped by the three women—none of them were technically human—Filomina panicked. She could tell that she wouldn’t be a match for any of them. She was doomed.

“I surrender.” Filomina got on her knees without hesitation.

Sophelia was one step too slow. She watched irritably as Megan took the hostage, cursing silently with crimson light in her eyes.

“Speak, why did the Death Knight come?” Megan demanded.

“He said that he was the young master of the Lando family, here to find his parent and help the Darkness Knight kill the Death Knight.”

“Nonsense.” Megan clutched Filomina’s shoulder with a crushing grip, making her blanch in pain.

“I’m telling the truth...” Filomina felt wronged. She was telling the truth. Her husband had said so. “Oh, he’s from the surface world. He’s the Moonlight Knight.”

“How dare you keep spouting lies?!” Megan’s eyes blazed with vicious red light. “He’s the Death—”

Boom!!

Radiant moonlight soared into the sky. The three women turned around and muttered about the impossibility of it all.

Surrounded by them, Filomina said innocently, “I told you that Wayne is the Moonlight Knight. White Night Creed does not lie.”

In the ruined main house, the white of Moonlight and the black of Darkness each occupied a side as the pure energies clashed, compressing space and making crackling noises as the ground caved in quickly at their feet.

The black and the white stretched outward as the energy spread. Their terrible power triggered unnatural phenomena of stirring vortexes of dark clouds and nonstop rumbling thunder.

“Auston, if you don’t stop now, the grove will be destroyed.”

Wayne put on the Moonlight Armor and blocked the fierce Twilight Despair with the longbow. He took one step forward to overwhelm Auston with raw power, making up for his earlier misstep.

He always served revenge hot, no matter how petty or serious the grievance was.

The radiant moonlight stung Auston’s eyes. His hazy thoughts calmed enough for him to realize that the Death Knight Wayne had put on the Moonlight Armor, making him visibly shocked.

“White Night Creed. You’ve acquired the Moonlight Knight’s weapon?”

“I’m Wayne of the surface world, not Wayne of the inner world. I’m not your enemy, Auston!”

“But you’re Wayne, are you not?”

“Um...”

They remained locked in a stalemate. Neither was willing to step back.

Auston refused to relent because of his desire for revenge. While it wasn’t much of a noble cause, revenge was a motivation no one could denounce. Wayne, on the other hand, simply didn’t want to lose to the old man, even if this was the inner world’s version of the old man.

Their terrifying energy accumulated, and with his calmer mind, Auston began to fear that he would destroy the Lando Estate—the last sanctuary for his heart. All of the estate could disappear, but not the grove. This place represented his yearnings for his wife because they had spent the most time here.

He pulled back a little, and Wayne followed suit in equal measure.

Two minutes later, the dark clouds that filled the sky above the estate dispersed. Crackling currents struck down, leaving large patches of charred ground.

Wayne brandished White Night Creed and pointed at his clear eyes. “As you can see, I came from the surface world. I’m not your enemy. In fact, I’m here to help. I want to kill the Death Knight to avenge Mother, too.”

“Mother?”

“Yeah. To tell you the truth, you are my father.”

“...”

Boom!!

Black and white stood in stark contrast. A veil of Darkness soared, overpowering the corresponding Moonlight. The latter could not disperse Darkness like Sun, so it could only stay on the defensive, unable to counterattack.

In the conflict between light and darkness, it had always been Sun and Moonlight against Darkness. When one was missing, the light side lacked either defense or offense.

“I know it sounds absurd, Auston, but it’s the truth. In the surface world, I’m the young master of the Lando family, and Silvia Lando is my mother.”

Wayne pushed Auston all the way out of the main house with White Night Creed. Staring at Auston’s twisted face, he stuck out his agile tongue to slice through the Void and retrieve a photo, presenting it to Auston.

It was a family photo!

The father and son shared the same black hair and black eyes, while the mother and daughter had blonde hair and blue eyes. The blended family was a combination of warm and cool colors.

Auston stiffened, staring at Silvia’s bright smile. It was a smile that came from the heart, brimming with happiness and contentment, as well as a hint of satisfaction.

He found himself smiling with her, and his aura of Darkness faded. While holding Twilight Despair to Wayne’s neck, he carefully took the photo and asked hoarsely, “Who exactly are you?”

“Wayne Lando.” Wayne gave as good as he took and pressed White Night Creed to Auston’s chest.

“Impossible!”

“It’s the truth. If you ask around in the surface world, everyone in Londan would say that we’re father and son.”

Blinking, Wayne took more photos out, including more group photos of the family of four, photos of Megan accidentally stepping into the shots and being kept in by Silvia, photos of Veronica’s scrunched up face, and photos of Silvia holding her husband and son in each arm.

One photo featured Silvia and Auston on their own, huffing and harrumphing at each other.

“The story of the inner world has spiraled out of control. In the surface world, I’m widely known as your illegitimate son...” Wayne rattled off the lies easily. “Twenty years ago, you sent your illegitimate son, me, out of the Lando Estate. After marrying Master Silvia, you adopted Veronica as a cover...”

“Then I returned to the family, and the two of us reunited as father and son. I became the heir of the Lando family.”

“Impossible!” Auston gripped his Twilight Despair. He didn’t have a son, definitely not.

“Alright. I’m actually Veronica’s fiancé. I married into the family and became heir.”

“I’ll kill you!!”
