Myths Reawakened

Wayne waved his tentacles to knock the Lord of Envy off his feet before swinging his fierce blades downward to cut off Envy’s two arms.

With half his body flying, Envy raised the greatsword with both hands and said in disbelief, “Himbo, what exactly are you—”

Pttoey!

A crack opened on Wayne’s featureless face, forming a pale mouth. He spat white foam straight at Envy’s handsome face.

Envy hurriedly closed his mouth, dispersing like mist before recombining at a distance.

He was extremely wary of Wayne’s corruption, refusing to allow the man to continue corrupting his thoughts. Even setting that aside, a proud demon lord wouldn’t have tolerated getting spat in the face.

Boom!

Another explosion sounded in the distance. Envy felt a dull ache. Looking up, he saw Mona burning half his body into ash with the Eye of Judgment, destroying another part of his thoughts.

With his decisive attack easily offset by Wayne, Envy had no reason to stay. He told himself that he should stop right now and return to Hell.

However, if he left now, he would have suffered the loss for nothing!

The sunk cost was so great that Envy wanted to go, but also didn’t. As he agonized over his decision, Wayne and Mona had come to flank him once more.

“Go to Hell, Demon!” Wayne swung his blades and four tentacles, looking so insidious that Envy would call him the devil. Reshaping his entire body through his thoughts, Envy drew an abyss up to push the surrounding space far away, freeing him from being flanked.

Once again, he chose to go after the weaker opponent, Mona. While attacking relentlessly, he unleashed a verbal barrage of mockery and taunts.

“Hesione, you’ve found your Eye of Judgment, but where’s your divine power? Your legion? Have you left them in Heaven?”

“I may not be able to deal with you today, but I know you’re in the mortal realm, and I swear to seek you out again!”

“Just wait. I’ll personally drag you to Hell!”

The black and white blades collided. Mona remained expressionless, while the Lord of Envy had a vicious smile on his face.

Two pale blades thrust toward Envy from behind Mona. The moment they came into contact with her lower back, the pale flesh blended into her body before protruding from her abdomen, piercing Envy’s chest.

It was another trick he had never seen before. Envy marveled at the endless possibilities of the Void. The path did lead to a bright future, so much so that he couldn’t help but covet it.

Wayne stood behind Mona. Instead of extracting his blade, he stepped forward to overlap with her before emerging, as if he had just passed through a projection.

“???”

For a moment, Envy forgot to resist. He stared at Wayne’s suddenly approaching face dumbly, grappled by his tentacles.

Mona came at him from the side with a horizontal sweep of the Oath Sword, cutting along Envy’s shoulders and decapitating him. His long black hair flew in the air.

Wayne didn’t chase after the head. He contracted his tentacles and tried to convert this part of Envy’s thoughts into his shape. He had gone after the Goddess of Darkness before, so there was no reason for him to spare the demon lord. Otherwise, others would mistake him for favoring Hell or, worse yet, accuse him of favoring women over men and showing mercy only to women.

That would leave a stain on his reputation. People would think he was a pervert!

Boom!!!

A massive mushroom cloud expanded and rose. The soaring black light engulfed Wayne’s body. Mona raised the Oath Sword to defend herself, getting thrown off her feet by the violent currents.

The Lord of Envy was indeed a fierce opponent. He would not give Wayne a chance to corrupt him, not even a one in ten thousand chance. Since he couldn’t save this chunk of thoughts, he self-detonated immediately.

The dark mushroom cloud exploded. As if a portal in the abyss had been torn apart, seemingly infinite darkness and destruction poured out. Black light radiated like fierce blades, devouring everything it passed and rendering everything to nothingness.

Umar did her best to guard the six Gates of Heaven, attempting to constrain the explosion within the barrier. The idea was sound, but she didn’t have the power to back it up. She could only watch as the darkness expanded and turned the hexahedron into a sphere. The gates were losing form, and amid the creaking noises, all of the white chains broke apart.

Umar knew that there was no preventing the inevitable. She decisively destroyed the topmost gate on the hexahedron.

The suppressed energy now had an exit, and it rumbled toward the sky, tearing the vortexes of black clouds and scattering the bolts of lightning. Space itself was shattered by the impact, turning the entire sky an ink-black.

The charred energy of Hell rapidly spread. The dried-up air lost all vitality, becoming a deathly stillness.

Umar stubbornly held on until the last of her strength was exhausted. She had no choice but to return to Heaven in the end.

Her resistance wasn’t for nothing. At least she had protected the clergywoman of holy spirit constitution that she had descended in. The other clergy members around her, however, weren’t as lucky.

One second, they were fully focused on reciting scriptures from the Sacred Tome on their knees, and the next, they heard a rumbling explosion that made their heads ring. One after another, they collapsed to the ground with blood streaking down their mouths and eyes rolling into their skulls.

The Holy Light barrier shattered under the impact of the black light. At the center of the explosion, the sky had shattered, the broken space distorting and falling apart. Darkness had pierced through the land, creating a bottomless abyss.

The smell of charcoal and death permeated the air. Aside from a single head and Mona, whose six wings allowed her to hover, no one else was in sight.

Mona frowned. She could still sense the contract, but she couldn’t find Wayne. Worry gnawed at her.

“Hesione, what’s the nature of your relationship with that man?”

Lord of Envy’s head hovered in the air. He had lost all his body from the neck down, and he had completely forgotten about the goal of preventing further losses.

Thinking back to how Wayne had passed through Hesione, he couldn’t help but voice his curiosity. It was suspicious, way too suspicious. The unconditional trust didn’t belong to mere comrades-in-arms.

He knew how prideful Hesione was. She would’ve never trusted a human that much, yet she had done just that.

Something was amiss!

Envy looked at her strangely, making a bold guess: “You have not awakened fully. Before you began awakening, did you and Himbo...”

It was possible, but too far-fetched. He had to be overthinking. Darkness poured from his eyes, blooming with two yellow spots.

He sensed two energies from Mona, one belonging to her pure self, the other... smelled of Himbo.

She had been had!

“Hahaha—”

Envy broke out laughing, even bursting into tears.

Enraged, Mona charged at the laughing head with the Oath Sword. Wrapping the white greatsword with the holy intent of the Golden Law, her terrifying killing intent summoned a sea of blood.

Envy dispersed with a strange shout before reassembling into his normal state. The great loss of thoughts left his face sheet pale. He could no longer defeat Mona, but he didn’t feel any sadness. Doubling over, he slapped his thighs while he laughed, unable to straighten himself.

“Hesione, I’ve considered everything, but not the possibility that you would succumb to carnal desires. Hahaha...”

“I don’t blame you, though. You lost your memories after reincarnating, so it’s normal to want a beautiful relationship as a human... pfft!”

He burst out laughing every few words, not putting on even the slightest resistance while Mona made lethal blows at him. He even sacrificed a part of his power in Hell and dragged more thoughts to the human world so that he could laugh a little longer.

Even if Hell ended today, he would laugh to his heart’s content.

“It’s not bad to want love, haha. After all, it’s feelings you angels do not have. Still, you should’ve been a pure clergywoman in the human world. What drove you to irrationally covet the opposite sex?”

“You should’ve told us earlier. Hell has no shortage of masculine demons. We would’ve willingly helped you if you had just said the words!”

The Lord of Envy got cut into pieces, and his broken thoughts were burned away by the Eye of Judgment. He only dissipated gradually after he had laughed enough. He sent the few thoughts he had left back to Hell.

This descent was more than worth it!

This certainly wasn’t the Lord of Pride’s conspiracy since Pride would have kept the joke private for his own enjoyment rather than sharing it with others. Envy, on the other hand, was happy to do the honor. Once he was back in Hell, he would tell all demons that Hesione, one of the four Śārim, had gotten lost in the passionate love between men and women. She had fallen. She was no longer pure and undefiled.

She had been defiled!

“Hahaha—”

Once the Lord of Envy vanished, Mona extracted her sword and looked around, at a loss. Her pride made her ashamed of the situation she was in, but on second thought, it wasn’t that unacceptable.

Hesione was Hesione, while Mona was Mona. Hesione had fallen and was no longer pure, but what did that have to do with Mona?

Hiss—

In the air, a clump of strange pale mist slowly contracted and reformed into white foam, ultimately emerging as the Pale Knight. Wayne hovered in the air, looking at Mona’s back silently.

The six wings and the Eye of Judgment were the very evidence that Mona had listed for reincarnated angels. If he continued to believe Mona to be a regular human clergywoman who had only evolved through Saint George’s blood, he would be a right fool.

So, did he accidentally bang Hesione, one of the four Śārim?

In fact, he had more than banged her. He practically bombarded her, plowing through the irrigation channel numerous times.

“Boss...” Mona flew to Wayne’s side and handed him the Oath Sword. Noticing his strange expression, she said stiffly, “Master, if I tell you that I’m still Mona, would you believe me?”

Wayne hesitated. Not really.

“I can prove it, Master!”

“How...” Wayne immediately perked up. Just in case she was testing him, he took the Oath Sword and coughed into his fist, emphasizing, “I’ll be upfront. Mona and I are pure. If you want to prove yourself, no funny business.”

As expected of you, you’re bold!

Mona rolled her eyes at Wayne. Looking around, she pointed at the forest nearby. She would prove it to him there.

“Um...”

“What? Do you not want it?”

“Allow me to make a reasonable request. When you prove it, you must keep the wings out... all six wings.”

“...”

Mona’s eyes twitched. She was fine with it since they had done everything, but that wasn’t the case for Hesione. The wings were the last pure things about her.

Still wanna nag? Then I’ll make you impure!
