Myths Reawakened

The next day at noon, Wayne met Auston in his study in the Lando Estate. He had not gotten a wink of sleep, and he had lost more weight. Being king was inhuman work. At this rate, Wayne would become head of the family by next year.

“That’s what happened. Saint George’s Church itself isn’t important. It’s only a gateway. The ancestral teachings to guard it are only due to the treasure hidden at the edge of the Grey Space.”

Wayne talked about the secret treasures that Saint George had left behind. “The Queen didn’t tell the whole truth. She’s holding back. I suggest you teach her a good lesson.”

Auston ignored the advice. He knew Sophelia. If she had any other cards to play, she wouldn’t have put on the miniskirt and black stockings, which obviously got to her.

The look was beautiful on her, though.

Clearly, there had been an information disparity. The royal family didn’t know about the treasure that their ancestor had left behind. Sitting on a gold mountain, they treasured a few silver coins, mistaking them for real treasure.

“How do you plan to use the divine blood of Heaven?” Auston closed his eyes, playing with his silver coin slowly.

“I haven’t decided...”

Wayne stroked his chin with a frown. If there was no other use for it, he was going to have Mona undergo the angel evolution—the legitimate kind, rather than the false angel with superficial skin that Juno had turned into.

Something as precious as divine blood should be reserved for someone he trusted. Additionally, the divine blood in Kristen’s body also needed to be awakened. Having her take the impact of pure Laws would be too painful, and he didn’t have a better idea yet. He planned to observe further.

The obelisk might help. He remembered Obed using it as an important tool when trying to possess Kristen.

It might work!

“As for the surgery on Master and Veronica...”

Wayne planned to wait until the Dragontooth Swords were forged before proceeding to ensure that the dragon was truly dead, preventing any unexpected complications.

Auston didn’t object to that. He said slowly, “The royal family’s power is completely subdued. The Queen has given up on reclaiming power. I’ve been exhausted lately and don’t want to continue this game with her.”

“Are you going to ascend the throne formally, Father?”

“...”

Auston remained unfazed. Such words could no longer create any stir in his heart. “I can’t rule a country. I’d rather step back and have the Queen return to her position.”

“Is that necessary?” Wayne found that superfluous. The Queen had fallen from grace and couldn’t return. No matter what Auston did, the Tulip Families knew who was truly worthy of their loyalty.

“I’m tired. I don’t want to waste time on meaningless matters,” Auston said slowly. “If you have no objection, the Lando family will return to how things were. I’ll support the Queen rather than hold the power myself.”

Compared to governing a country, he cared more about his wife and daughter at home. Those who cared about the national affairs were welcome to take care of them. If Wayne was dissatisfied, he could stay at Buckingham Palace for a few nights himself.

“Aren’t you worried that she’ll get ideas?”

“Doesn’t matter.”

“...”

Looking at his slacker father, Wayne cursed at him for being an incompetent ruler with no sense of responsibility. How was the Prince going to exploit the common people now? They wouldn’t have to wait for Lando II to take over—the regime would end with the first ruler.

“Do whatever you want. The Queen is only a puppet anyway. The Tulip Families know what to do.” Wayne had no desire to be king, either. He changed the subject, “The Church of Heavenly Father’s delegation will arrive soon. I’ve already met the Pope’s envoy. You might not believe this, but there’s another reincarnated angel in Londan.”

“There’s another one beside you?” Auston cracked his eyes open. He knew most of Wayne’s secrets, including his identity as a reincarnated angel. That even earned him a loyal clergywoman who served as his secretary.

“I’m a fake one. In other words, neither of Londan’s two reincarnated angels has been found.” Wayne frowned. “There’s another possibility: there’s only one reincarnated angel in Londan. It’s unlikely that the Papal State has a way to tell, since if they did, they would know I’m fake.”

“Is there a possibility that they already know?”

“I can’t rule that out.” Wayne shook his head. “Either way, I’ve constantly denied being a reincarnated angel, but they insist on pinning the identity on me, even giving me written proof that I wouldn’t be held responsible if I turn out not to be an angel.”

He continued, “The demons in Palis are getting restless. Finding the reincarnated angels will benefit everyone. I’ll help the delegation find the one they’re looking for. If we can find both, even better.”

“Reincarnated angels represent Heaven’s power. Whether the Church of Heavenly Father can represent Heaven, they are tied together. Can you really do this as chosen knights?” Auston was ready for a show.

“Stop it. I’m already getting a headache.” Wayne closed his eyes and slumped on the sofa. He was treading on thin ice now, and he would consider himself lucky if he could get to the other side safely. If he got his shoes wet a few times, so be it. Everyone’s shoes got wet. It was better than falling through the ice into the water.

Life was hard. The father and son sighed together.

***

October fourteenth.

One day before Vera’s birthday, Wayne had Veryl arrange the gift and set up the birthday venue—the celebration would be held in Wayne’s residence, putting his scumminess on full display.

There might be some chaos that day, but Wayne could no longer worry about that. He urged Darienne to work quickly, giving the great dragon a peaceful end as soon as possible while making use of everything. They couldn’t waste the high hopes Saint George had for his descendants.

The Queen was a descendant of Saint George, Auston was the Queen’s secret lover, and Wayne was Auston’s son. Therefore, it was perfectly reasonable for Wayne to consider himself a descendant of Saint George.

In his study, Wayne waved a hand to open Warehouse Number One—a dark domain that he had created with his thoughts. The entrance was behind the bookcase in the study, following the example of the previous occupant, Sidney.

Dark domains could either be a fixed storage or a portable one, their sizes determined by the strength of a mage’s thoughts. Wayne’s thoughts were abundant and powerful, so the dark domain was massive, aligning with his belief that the bigger the better. Walking through it, he soon arrived at the heart of the domain.

Mona, holding a Sacred Tome of Golden Law, had set up the magic ritual for finding reincarnated angels. When she saw Wayne, she returned the Sacred Tome of Golden Law and the Parchment Sacred Tome to him.

She had completed her transformation. The battle nun outfit accentuated her alluring curves so much that even a demon would praise her figure as devilish.

“Boss, the text in the Parchment Sacred Tome is too ancient. Saint Paul’s Cathedral doesn’t have the translation and interpretation. I can’t understand the writing. Perhaps the Papal State has collected reference books for it. Should I contact them for you?”

“No need. It’s just an ancient text. There’s no need for the trouble. I’ll let Ottilia study it. She’ll like it.” Wayne shook his head. The Parchment Sacred Tome was Saint George’s handwritten copy, only considered precious because of Saint George. In essence, it was no different from any other sacred tomes. The Book of Greed gave it an average score.

The Oath Sword, on the other hand, received high praise from the book. It had greatly boosted the smaller eyeball for Heaven on the cover.

The eyeball of Hell didn’t get much boosting from the limited reserve in the half-finished Philosopher’s Stone. Wayne planned to develop it into a demon replica.

The discovery made him wonder if the demon who had barged into Saint George’s Church had truly died in the self-detonation. Given what he learned from the incomplete Philosopher’s Stone, the demon was likely still alive. In fact, he might not even be a demon.

More and more mysteries plagued Wayne, but he didn’t have much time to think carefully. The more he studied magic, the more he felt that raw power was more useful than brain power.

What good was intelligence? Could it solve all mysteries?

Raw power was different. If he couldn’t deal with the problem, he could deal with the person who created the problem.

He went from questioning the chosen knights to understanding the chosen knights and then becoming just like them.

“Mona, have you thought about my offer yesterday?” Wayne opened the Sacred Tome of Golden Law. He had just eaten, and the plate was still warm.

“Please make the decision, Boss. I have no objections either way,” Mona said devotedly.

Wayne had Saint George’s heavenly blood. It was precious and shouldn’t be given to outsiders. Thinking it over, he concluded that only Mona could make use of it.

He knew what angels looked like—they were the antithesis of the mainstream beauty standards. Mona was a woman who cared about her looks, so he made the offer and gave her time to think rather than using it immediately.

Mona’s reasoning was simple: she was only an ordinary Silver-ranked mage. Because of the stigma from her contract, she could borrow the Golden Law of Angels in Wayne’s body, thus allowing her to make a big leap in power.

She had been satisfied and even secretly pleased, but not anymore. Wayne’s enemies were getting more powerful. Recently, he had even headed to the Frozen Land to seal an ancient god’s vassal. Her strength was falling behind Wayne’s progress, making her dispensable.

After Wayne advanced to Gold rank, especially, his Vengeful Spirits had all leveled up. Even Do, whose performance was average, had become stronger.

Mona didn’t compare herself to a dog. She compared herself to Ottilia and Regina instead. As a fellow secretary, the two succubus secretaries concerned her more. She could still deal with them when Wayne was a Gold-ranked mage, but what about after he became a legendary mage? What would she do then?

She desperately wanted to improve!

“Alright. Once I find the reincarnated angel, I’ll schedule your evolution.” Wayne patted her on the backside, telling her to take two steps back. Then he opened the Sacred Tome of Golden Law and recited the text, singing praises to the Heavenly Father.

“Oh, Father in Heaven!”

This is embarrassing!

Wayne couldn’t continue after two lines. He turned to Mona in exasperation. “His Horniness is being presumptuous. If all of the Papal State and the Sacred Tome of Golden Law in Saint Paul’s Cathedral failed to locate the reincarnated angel, why does he think that I can do it? Rather than wasting time here, we’ll stand a better chance just grabbing randos off the streets.”

“Boss, you’re also a reincarnated angel, and reincarnated angels attract each other. You can do it,” Mona said with certainty.

“Then I’m even less qualified. I’m not even—”

“Have you not given up on that, Boss?”

Wayne rolled his eyes. If he didn’t have such a strong sense of responsibility and couldn’t stand watching demons destroying people, he wouldn’t care about all this. He hoped that the Book of Greed would help him out more so that he could meet the requirements through the Golden Law in his body, allowing him to find the reincarnated angel.

He awkwardly recited the praise in the scripture. The Book of Greed’s large eyeball shifted to look at Heaven’s small eyeball. All his mana suddenly became sacred, and the golden bands of condensed Golden Law circled him.

The cross stigma on the back of Mona’s hand flared. As Wayne chanted, her white wings unfurled beyond her control. She knelt on one knee, hands clasped before her chest as she recited with Wayne.

Wayne failed three times in a row. He was ready to grab people off the streets.

After Mona promised to try new positions as a reward, Wayne reluctantly agreed to try once more, reading the scripture with more emotion at her request.

Soon, golden light pulsed, and an image pointing to the reincarnated angel slowly emerged.

“Holy crap, this fucking works? Am I a reincarnated angel?” Wayne’s eyes widened. The facts made him question himself.

“I’ve always said that you are, Master.” Mona bowed slightly, her eyes surging with golden light.

Wayne was going to argue further, but as the image became clearer, it drew both his and Mona’s attention.

One was dumbstruck, and the other flabbergasted. Both became slack-jawed in shock.

The image showed a bar, an inappropriate bar. And it wasn’t the usual kind of inappropriateness. The female bartenders all looked as wrecked as cars in a serious accident—some of them looked even worse.

Not only was it inappropriate, but it was also unorthodox!

Wayne didn’t want to judge people by appearances, but the bar... really killed the libido. It was absurd that it hadn’t gone out of business.

In a corner seat, a handsome young man had his arms around two women, grinning as if he had won in life.

Really? This can’t be right. Why is it him? x2
