I Am Your Natural Enemy

The Invisible Man was originally a sliver of consciousness birthed from the power of the Curse. His body is actually composed of those Curse powers unseen by ordinary people, which appeared as black energy in Wen Yan’s eyes.

His body had never been whole before. At this moment, it was the first time he became complete.

After becoming whole, he naturally came to understand where he came from.

Then, he became bewildered, somewhat at a loss, as an identity crisis began to emerge.

It’s like how people grow up only to suddenly learn that the man they thought was their father is not their father.

Some people might not care about such things and remain steadfast, believing that blood ties aren’t important.

However, some would consider these ties important and agonize over them.

There are also those who may think, ”My dad is still my dad; blood doesn’t affect our relationship, but I just want to know the truth.”

The Invisible Man was now quite bewildered, standing at this crossroad, unsure which way to go.

If his identity and origins were all problematic, then what was the point of everything he was doing?

As the Invisible Man was lost in confusion, Wen Yan straightened his clothing, strode out openly, and saluted from afar, every motion precise and deliberate, his posture straight, his expression focused, and carrying a hint of respect.

Watching the Invisible Man, Wen Yan maintained a hint of reverence on his face, and said loudly.

”Mr. Ye, please.”

In his heart, Wen Yan was very clear; his conflict with the Invisible Man was because this matter forcibly dragged him in, and because the Invisible Man drove Ye Shuang to death.

It had nothing to do with any Curse or the Invisible Man’s identity.

If we talk of distant events, since the Invisible Man wasn’t the Ye Clan’s ancestor, then the events from more than two thousand years ago have no connection to him.

Over a thousand years ago, the Invisible Man was misled and believed himself to be the Ye Clan’s ancestor, dedicating himself to resolving the Curse.

After sleeping for a long period, he reawakened following the resurgence of Spiritual Qi during the second phase.

If we must say he did anything evil, then the only thing would be driving Ye Shuang to death.

The matter of the Ye Clan having deaths each year really had nothing to do with the Invisible Man; it was something the Ye Clan themselves had researched previously.

Position is position, grudge is grudge, but the more Wen Yan understood, the more he felt that at least the Invisible Man was purer than those people he had seen before.

He wanted to see the Invisible Man off, no longer thinking of him as merely a villain who needed to be beaten to death.

Amidst the Invisible Man’s confusion, he saw Wen Yan salute him, heard the address given, and his thoughts were immediately pulled back.

His expression was somewhat complicated; a person who wanted to kill him was now saluting him, addressing him as ’sir’.

In his view, it was akin to him personally saluting that person, even calling him Emperor Qin.

Recognition from an enemy is the highest form of acknowledgment.

At least, that’s what the Invisible Man believed.

He paused for a moment, returned the salute as a courtesy.

”I am only one step away from resolving this Curse.

But now I’ve uncovered a bit of a problem, and I’m uncertain about who I really am.

I’m somewhat shaken, no longer as steadfast as before.”

”Any intelligent creature can answer with ’I am me’.”

”But who am I?”

”Why are you shaken in such a peculiar place?” Wen Yan glanced at the Invisible Man with some curiosity.

”What do you mean by that?”

”I’ve met many people, some despicable, some disgusting, but those who keep advancing towards a goal without wavering are indeed very rare.

My respect is not for your identity or your deeds.

Even now, my thought remains that in the next step, if possible, I’ll personally beat you to death.

But that doesn’t at all affect my respect for your steadfastness.

I do not possess the same resolve; I have many thoughts.

I often act impulsively without a clear plan for the next steps.

Unlike you, who over thousands of years remained very clear about your goal, even regarding the steps to achieve it.

I quite envy you, and I deeply admire this aspect.

This has nothing to do with who you are.

If there must be a battle next, then I will indeed use all my power to beat you to death.”

Wen Yan spoke sincerely, speaking from the heart.

Just like before, he used to think Zhang Xuewen was afraid of pain, afraid of his wife, afraid of martial training, afraid of this and that.

But when Zhang Xuewen stubbornly endured, drove himself to bleeding internally, liver failure, difficulty breathing, his heart nearly stopping, yet never complained once.

Wen Yan realized he had been somewhat narrow-minded in judging people, that he should see others’ merits and learn from them.

Just like now, he thought to himself, if he were in the same situation, it would be extremely difficult to remain unyielding like the Invisible Man for a millennium, with such resolve.

Wen Yan spoke honestly, still saying that he wanted to beat the Invisible Man to death.

Yet, the Invisible Man didn’t mind at all; on the contrary, he considered it the highest form of praise and acknowledgment.

If given the choice, he felt that if he could die at Wen Yan’s hands, he would definitely have no regrets.

Just a few words, and the uncertainty and confusion in his heart gradually dissipated.

Even if Wen Yan wanted to kill him, he still thought that his resoluteness was a rare quality, unrelated to who he was.

Why, then, should he continue to agonize over who he was or his origins?

The Invisible Man recalled the past, during his initial awakening, when he encountered that individual.

That person hadn’t really deceived him; they first taught him many things, showing him how to conceal himself, how to settle, and only afterward did they tell him many things, some even narrated in the form of stories.
