I Am Your Natural Enemy

An hour later, he stood by the roadside, looking at the small path leading into the mountains and stepped onto it.

After walking a certain distance, he took out the Stable Jade Pendant and released the warhorse from it.

He fed the Blue Mane Horse some Paper Money and blessed it with Yang Energy before riding the Soul Warhorse along the mountain path.

As the setting sun descended in the west, the light between heaven and earth gradually faded, and the chilly breath of the mountain began to emerge, accompanied by rustling sounds.

Wen Yan thought for a moment and decided that less trouble was better than more, so he took out the hand cream given by Big Sister Ye and applied some to his hands.

This hand cream was quite useful, although he wasn’t fond of applying various things and had gotten used to washing his face with soap. The faint fragrance of the hand cream was rather pleasant.

Then Wen Yan saw, on the treetop not far away, a Green Snake that had half its body hanging out quietly retracting back and slithering away in the opposite direction from Wen Yan.

His gaze was sharp, and his senses keen. As he moved forward, he gradually sensed that more than just one type of venomous creature was actively avoiding him after he approached.

The warhorse’s foot power was swift, and its stamina was strong. Carrying Wen Yan, it galloped quickly through the mountains. Plus, many bridges built in the last two or three decades didn’t require any detours and could be crossed directly.

Even so, Wen Yan still traveled for three hours before he was almost close to his destination.

After crossing another bridge and passing through a man-made tunnel, there was a fog-covered world ahead.

The sound of hissing came, and Wen Yan looked up to see the tunnel’s exit roof crawling with countless snakes, their heads slightly raised, watching Wen Yan below.

Their slimy presence carried a weird, slightly fishy fragrance.

Wen Yan took out his thermal mug, had a sip of the tea inside, and immediately felt the fierce corpse poison rampaging inside his body.

The corpse poison wasn’t attacking him; instead, it wanted to first eliminate the other toxins fighting to attack Wen Yan.

Once the corpse poison gradually swallowed other toxins and was about to attack Wen Yan, it automatically gathered under the left-hand thumbnail of Wen Yan.

This was an experience Wen Yan learned from previous encounters; unless it was an exceptionally potent toxin, it had little effect on him since the toxicity wasn’t stronger than the corpse poison on his nail.

The tea in his thermal mug, infused with corpse poison, served as a universal antidote.

Seeing no apparent reaction from Wen Yan, a Green Snake slithered out from the snake group, raised its head, and looked at Wen Yan, speaking in a crisp, girlish voice.

”Who are you?”

”I was entrusted to escort two people home. Didn’t Big Sister Ye call you?”

The Green Snake circled around Wen Yan, head held high, self-assured.

”Never heard of it.”

Wen Yan smiled and extended his hand.

”But you recognize the scent, don’t you?”

”Yes, Big Sister Ye’s. But maybe you stole it, you know. When Big Sister Ye was at home, people often stole what she made.”

”Ha, do you think with Big Sister Ye’s skill, if she didn’t want anyone to steal her things, they would dare to use it publicly without fear of death? Aren’t they afraid Big Sister Ye would quietly alter the formula, turning something non-toxic into something deadly?”

”Ah...” The Green Snake instantly raised its head, stopping its hissing as if it had suddenly realized something, quite shocked.

”Go back and report it. Who I am doesn’t matter; bringing people home is the main thing.”

”Oh...” The Green Snake responded, obediently turned around, and as it glided away, wondered why it had to report personally.

It raised its head, issued some hissing sounds, and the message was transmitted.

The Green Snake slithered to Wen Yan’s side, watching him with curiosity, particularly at the Soul Warhorse he rode.

”Why haven’t you been poisoned?”

”The water I drink is poisonous, this little bit of poison won’t take me down.”

”Ha, you’re bluffing. I can see clearly you’re definitely a living person. How can a living person not be afraid of poison?”

”It’s not that I’m not afraid; ordinary poison doesn’t affect me much.”

”Are you the man Sister Ye found?”

”No.”

”Oh, so can demons outside all wear clothes and go to watch those movies with big screens?”

”Not necessarily, only those who can take human form can.”

”Oh, is Lady Bai’s story true?”

”Which Lady Bai?”

”Huh, you don’t even know this? The Lady Bai Suzhen!”

”I’ve only heard stories; how should I know if it’s real?”

The Green Snake sighed, somewhat disappointed.

”You don’t even know this; it seems you’re not with the Scorching Sun Department.”

”...”

Wen Yan glanced sideways, a good fellow, thinking this Little Green Snake was an innocent little monster. Unexpectedly, it was testing him.

Does this mean that members of the Scorching Sun Department who reach here must know some things?

No wonder when Big Sister Ye came, she left many things vague for him. It turns out clarifying would cause more misunderstandings.

The Little Green Snake led the way up ahead, guiding Wen Yan along the mountain path. Before long, around a bend, there was a village ahead, intertwined with the surrounding forest.

The village was on the sunny side, while on the opposite, shady side, numerous graves stood densely like trees.

And at the lowest terrain at the foot of the mountain, there was a light presence of corpse energy, indicating a Corpse Nourishing Land.
