I Am Your Natural Enemy

But as I see it, this matter wasn’t voluntary on the part of the ghost, and there wasn’t any malice involved.

Just killing the ghost outright like that isn’t really good, is there another solution?”

”Wait a moment, let me think it through...” Chen Tao rubbed his head, trying to sort out what Wen Yan had said again.

But no matter how it looks, this series of events does seem to perfectly align with the core procedure of gaining recognition.

The outcome is similar too, it’s all about making a huge change, and then having someone else pay the price.

And the origin of it all is that he couldn’t find a suitable disciple, so he thought of separating the martial arts and divination to teach two different disciples.

He then found a candidate with barely suitable potential, but that person wasn’t interested in these things, so he helped him get in touch with the owner of a camera app, using modern technology to screen for suitable candidate disciples.

Then by a stroke of luck, a series of events were triggered.

After figuring all this out, Chen Tao’s expression turned strange, as he pinched his fingers and mumbled something to himself for quite a while.

”Managed to change appearance and fate, surprisingly no one died, neither side faced great retribution, only a bit of minor injury...”

”That’s right.”

”The hospital didn’t explode? No further incidents?”

”Haven’t heard of any at the moment.”

”This is exploiting a loophole.” Chen Tao was shocked beyond belief; what he hadn’t managed in his lifetime was achieved by a mortician by chance.

Before Wen Yan could speak, Chen Tao muttered to himself again.

”Yes, it’s just exploiting the loophole, when doing these things, the person was already dead, meaning the greatest price was already paid.

After it was done, that person turned into a ghost, inheriting the deceased’s blessing, not considered a direct change of appearance and fate.

This seems like seeking recognition, but in fact, the price was already paid, and the outcomes were all indirect, not direct...”

The more Chen Tao spoke, the more mystical it sounded, and Wen Yan understood less and less.

After a while, Wen Yan tentatively spoke up.

”Brother?”

”Ah, sorry, don’t worry you guys, this started because of me, I have the responsibility to deal with it, I’ll pack my things and head to Nanwu County right away.”

Chen Tao spoke decisively, and after he finished, he was in slippers, hurriedly clacking all the way, leaving no room for Wen Yan to speak.

Wen Yan was still sipping tea, not even five minutes later, and Chen Tao had already changed his clothes.

”Brother, I’ll head over first, you take it easy, no need to rush with all the travel fatigue...”

”Brother, if you’re in a hurry, I know a few friends, there’s a shortcut, it’ll take at most ten minutes...”

”What shortcut?”

”Borrow the Nether Path.”

”...” Chen Tao’s face changed, involuntarily stepping back: ”Virtue City Plague God? No, you’re from Virtue City, right?”

”Yes, I am.”

Chen Tao’s eyelid twitched wildly, he couldn’t help but step back again.

Wen Yan had previously mentioned being from Fuyu Mountain, and he hadn’t reacted back then.

Now hearing this about borrowing the Nether Path, like casually hailing a cab, he suddenly reacted.

Wen Yan was that Great Killer Star recently rumored in the Northeast, single-handedly exterminating the entire White Fox Clan, even destroyed their roads.

The rumor is that this Virtue City Great Killer Star loves to borrow the Nether Path; if you badmouth him, he’ll be in front of you in ten minutes by borrowing the Nether Path, crossing thousands of miles.

Also, he has good connections inside the Scorching Sun Department, and ties with the military.

A great demon in the Northeast barely popped up to howl, and its lair was unfortunately covered by a military exercise, dying a tragic death.

Anyway, the rumors are quite spooky; Chen Tao had heard a bit about it, though he didn’t quite believe such rumors.

But while gossiping in the background, listening as if it were a story, one might not believe, however, when the person appears in front of you, the feeling is completely different.

”No, what kind of ghostly nickname is this Plague God? Who’s badmouthing me from behind, spreading rumors?” Upon hearing this, Wen Yan was displeased; the curator sees him as if seeing a Plague God now.

”No, no, just Jianghu rumors, the story changes with every person it passes through, no one believes these things, just stories made up in the background, don’t mind it.” Chen Tao chuckled awkwardly, hurriedly providing an explanation.

Though he didn’t completely trust the rumors, he knew there was a grain of truth in them.

The road in the White Fox Clan Territory being demolished is real.

The Great Demon’s lair being blanketed by small firecrackers is also real.

These are things that have been investigated on the ground, open to the public, not something that can be faked.

Now Chen Tao was feeling a bit uneasy, though from his brief interactions with Wen Yan, he seemed not to be an unreasonable person.

”Never mind, brother, you go ahead, when you arrive give me a call, meanwhile I’ll grab a bite to eat here.”

Chen Tao booked his ticket, and left in a flurry; he had already tried to call that guy who couldn’t be his disciple but had a significant connection to him, but couldn’t get through, likely already apprehended by the Scorching Sun Department.

Whether intentional or not, the initial cause was him looking for a successor, so now he definitely has to actively cooperate and promptly address the situation.

Moreover, whether related to him or not, knowing these things, he would certainly get involved and proactively help out.

Having learned the proceedings from Wen Yan, discovering this bug-exploiting approach was like finding a new continent, utterly surprising.

Of course, his focus wasn’t on the bug exploitation, but on Big Sister Ye, and also on the ghost who had its appearance changed.

He already had some ideas, sensing how, in the new era, he could ensure uninterrupted inheritance while adapting to the times.
