I Am Your Natural Enemy

Chapter 490: Chapter 199: Return to the Mountain, Water Monarch’s Concern (5k)_3

He spent an entire day inside the jade pendant, before suddenly realizing in shock that he had actually started to fear these things.

He truly didn’t want to live anymore.

It was only when Wen Yan spoke so bluntly that he understood—he really wasn’t the same as before.

Wen Yan didn’t know what the Red Skirt Ghost used to be like, but now, this Red Skirt Ghost—regardless of her obsession—was at least indeed unlike any ordinary fierce ghost.

This was the calmest, most even-tempered fierce ghost Wen Yan had ever seen, or even heard of.

If you want help from the people of Qingcheng, just have Great Uncle Master contact Priest Qing Xuzi.

The people of Fuyu Mountain deal with zombies; Qingcheng deals with ghosts. At this point, you could basically say it’s all handled Qingcheng’s way.

When it comes to treating injured ghosts, Qingcheng is absolutely the best at it; things Fuyu Mountain can’t do—maybe for Qingcheng, they’re not difficult at all.

”Qingcheng has clinics—they actually have them in quite a few places, but absolutely not in Nanwu County.”

”No wonder I’ve never heard of them. Is it because there are already a lot of clinics in Nanwu County?”

”That’s not it. Qingcheng’s clinics aren’t meant for humans in the first place. Nanwu County was never suitable for ghosts to stay for long—now it’s even less so. There aren’t many people in Qingcheng qualified to open their own clinic, so how could they waste them on Nanwu County? Guanzhong County definitely has one.”

Seventh Great-Uncle Master pondered for a moment, took out his phone, scrolled through his contacts, and dialed a number.

A moment later, he hung up.

”Qing Xuzi is right in Nanwu County; he was going to Virtue City anyway. When the time comes, just ask him to take a look, and you can also ask him about anything ghost-related—he definitely knows more than us.”

”Alrighty.”

...

On the back mountain of Fuyu Mountain, Gan Tang sat in her room and pressed play.

Watching a somewhat shaky video, seeing her sister Feng Cai just as she used to be, Gan Tang couldn’t help but smile unconsciously. Then, somehow, she wanted to cry—but not a single tear would come.

At last, hearing her sister trying to sweet talk her into reading, she suddenly burst out laughing.

Her sister didn’t even know she’d already snuck in using some cheap tricks.

She stayed put, watching the video over and over, gazing at her sister’s face and smile as if she had truly come back.

She knew what these words meant—it was her sister telling her to live her own life, to stop chasing after what used to be.

She felt some release inside her; the restlessness and obsession were gone. But her will—her resolve—was stronger than ever before.

”Sister, you forgot—I’ve never been the obedient type.”

Her obsession inside shattered; zombie-like features began to appear on her body, but in an instant, those features began to fade away, and her figure and looks became more and more like a living person.

Even her complexion began to change, and the Yin Qi on her faded as well.

Only now did she truly understand—resolve is resolve; obsession is obsession.

...

In the south of Central Plains County, the laid-back Water Ghost who once fell into the water heard about what happened in Central Plains County but did nothing—just floated in the water like a dead thing, letting the current carry him away from the Central Plains.

He couldn’t stay here; who knew if, if things were traced back, he’d get implicated for having connections to some evil ghosts or fierce spirits?

The laid-back Water Ghost drifted in the water, leaving the Central Plains in the most comfortable and hidden way.

Floating downstream like this for days, he didn’t mind—he just closed his eyes and slept quietly.

This Water Ghost didn’t need to devour Yang Energy from people, nor did he want followers to inherit his Water Ghost mantle; it matched his personality—laziness was his thing, come what may.

As he slept, he suddenly sensed the current had stopped. He slowly opened his eyes.

Under the murky water, it was deadly still—even the currents seemed to freeze.

Then, in the darkness, two golden beams of light appeared.

In the instant those beams flashed, he saw, in the murky water, a massive creature chained up, crouched in the shadow.

In the blackness, thick chains clanked noisily, surging waves rising up—yet not even a hundred meters from that massive body, the waves diminished rapidly until they were gone.

The Water Ghost tried to swim, but found he couldn’t move at all—the water itself seemed suppressed.

His body slowly drifted toward the gigantic figure.

As he drew closer, he looked up, terrified.

The massive figure looked like an ape: white head, green body, golden eyes blazing, huge iron chains locking its neck and waist, and something even seemed to hang from its nose.

The Water Ghost was petrified with fear—just approaching it, that crushing pressure made him feel like his very life no longer belonged to him. He didn’t even have the qualifications to die.

The instant he saw it, some instinct told him exactly who it was.

The legendary Water Monarch.

The Water Monarch was shackled in the darkness, motionless, but the water current carried the Water Ghost right to him.

Golden eyes looked over, terrifying in their power; the Water Ghost went rigid, his mind numb. He just floated there, dumb and blank.

After a long time, the golden light faded, and the Water Monarch’s gaze seemed a little surprised.

”No need for followers, no devouring Yang energy, and you can even leave the water—you’re a rather odd Water Ghost, aren’t you?”

The strange old-fashioned accent, speaking words even a Water Ghost struggled to follow—the Water Ghost quivered, spending a long time piecing together the meaning.

So he just honestly talked about the Calamity Protector Goddess, and how because of her, he was able to choose to live this laid-back way.

As for getting on land so easily, it was because he’d chosen to give up pulling new victims, to give up devouring Yang energy to grow stronger, to give up harming others for his own gain—so, inexplicably, he could come and go from the water as he pleased.

The Water Monarch half-understood, half-didn’t, so he kept the Water Ghost around to teach him modern speech.

A couple days later, the Water Monarch, still speaking in that odd accent, said,

”Go find someone—the current Scorching Sun—bring him here.”

A stream of water flew out, wrapped around the Water Ghost’s wrist, turning into a ring.

”Go. If he’s nearby, this ring will lead you.”

The water shaped itself into two big characters before the Water Ghost’s eyes—reminding him, don’t mistake the words.

The characters were a little different from those today, but he could still easily recognize them.

They were ”Scorching Sun”.

The Water Ghost was swept out of that still, deathly waters. Floating in the stream, he wore a bitter look of utter misery.

How was he supposed to know anything about Scorching Sun? The only thing he’d ever heard about this, was the Scorching Sun Department.
