I Am Your Natural Enemy

Chapter 165: Chapter 92: Tributary Water God, Young Boys and Girls (5k)_2

”Hiss...” Feng Yao sucked in a breath of cold air, instantly wanting to slap himself.

Why am I so nosy, why am I so curious, why do I have to ask so much?

Cai Qidong waved his hand toward the crane over there.

”Move that temple down first.”

The firewood already had gasoline all over it. If someone’s not careful and a spark lands, and they actually burn the temple down, that’ll be truly irreparable.

Cai Qidong watched as the little temple was lowered, then hoisted back onto the truck. He secretly breathed a sigh of relief and waved at Feng Yao and Wen Yan.

”Feng Yao, you and Wen Yan go handle it, see what’s really going on over there. The situation here is honestly way too complicated.”

After saying that, Cai Qidong thought for a moment, grabbed Wen Yan, and said earnestly,

”Wen Yan, we’re really counting on you this time. See how you can smooth things over. If you have any ideas, just go ahead and handle it. As long as it’s not over the line, we can agree to it.”

Of course, Cai Qidong understood why Old Lady Fox wouldn’t say a word to him—if she spoke, the nature of the incident would change.

As it is now, she’s already given him an enormous amount of face, so he absolutely has to uphold it and give her a satisfactory resolution.

Old Lady Fox didn’t call anyone else, only Wen Yan, so of course Wen Yan should handle it. Giving him plenty of authority—this is the attitude of letting him take the lead.

Feng Yao couldn’t refuse this errand. Who told him to have such a loose mouth and ask a curious question—Wen Yan actually dared to tell him.

Now the only thing to do is hurry up and get it done.

On their way out, Wen Yan beckoned at Zhang Laoxi to have him come along.

Then he explained to Cai Qidong,

”Just to be safe, I need to call in a professional.”

”You handle things here.”

Zhang Laoxi started the car, and the three of them left in a rush, leaving a crowd of people behind, all looking at one another, having no idea what happened—but anyone could tell something had gone wrong.

A whole group waited there watching.

Meanwhile, Zhang Laoxi was driving, taking Feng Yao and Wen Yan, speeding over a dozen kilometers to a tributary by the West River.

The Scorching Sun Department’s field agents had already taken over and were waiting at the scene.

Officially, it was said that some little demon snatched a child’s phone.

At least Feng Yao was some kind of leader now, so he went to ask the field agent for specifics.

Meanwhile, Wen Yan looked over at the child not far away, tear streaks still on his face.

He looked to be twelve or thirteen at most, clutching a phone in his hand, glancing frequently toward the riverbank.

Wen Yan had an idea and walked over to the boy.

He squatted down and asked the boy what happened. The boy, now calm, started hesitantly,

”I was playing by the river when he suddenly rushed out and asked me for my phone.”

”Mm, and then?”

”Then he read off a number and asked me to call it. After I did, he told me I could take my phone and go.”

”Mm, don’t worry, a demon that dares to rob like this, we’ll definitely lock him up and sentence him to death.”

”Ah...” The boy jumped, hesitated a bit, then finally gathered his courage and said, ”It wasn’t really robbery—he just borrowed my phone to make a call. Can you not kill him? He even gave me a fish, but I was too scared to take it.”

”Oh, just borrowed your phone to make a call, are you sure?”

”Sure, positive.” The boy kept nodding, looking at Wen Yan hopefully.

”Then it’s fine.”

Wen Yan stood up and started to walk away, but the boy reached out and tugged his arm.

”Uncle, can I... can I come find him to play with again later?”

”Call me brother.”

”Brother, can I come find him to play with again later?”

”Stay out of the water.”

Leaving those words, Wen Yan walked away.

The boy craned his neck, looking toward the water. Once the initial fright wore off, he just thought the whole thing was beyond cool.

Turns out demons are real—maybe he could actually be friends with a demon.

Of course he didn’t want that river dolphin demon to get taken away.

When Wen Yan came back, Feng Yao was still listening to the field agent recount all sorts of details.

Wen Yan glanced at Feng Yao and said offhandedly,

”I asked—the whole thing’s just a misunderstanding. It was just a little demon borrowing the kid’s phone to make a call. The kid had never seen a demon before and got spooked. Didn’t you see the kid doesn’t even mind? He was just pleading with me not to take away the little demon.”

Feng Yao nodded and immediately defined the matter.

”That’s it, it’s settled. You can go. Just a regular phone borrowing, at most the little demon startled the kid by showing up suddenly. I’ll give him a warning and some education later.”

The field agent who’d come hurriedly nodded and left right after handing things off.

For such a minor thing, to get a top leader to show up, the demon must have connections anyway—and besides, it really wasn’t any serious issue.

Feng Yao looked over at the riverbank.

”You’d better go—be more diplomatic. I’m not the right fit with my position.”

Step by step, Wen Yan walked to the riverbank and pulled out his phone to call Old Lady Fox.

”Hello, Granny? It’s me, Wen Yan.

It’s all taken care of, I’ve already stopped it.

The Scorching Sun Department people, really, are way too sloppy and careless. How could they make such a dumb mistake?

I’m embarrassed for them, honestly, it’s outrageous.

If you hadn’t gotten the call, this would have been a complete farce—killing a good demon by mistake. Who’d be able to take responsibility then?

If I knew who did the preliminary reports, I’d spit in their face in person.

Nothing but dead weight, wasting the country’s rations.
