I Am Your Natural Enemy

Chapter 162: Chapter 91 Complicated Water System, Pumping Water (5k)_2

Since it’s replenishing a part of what the boy was missing, then naturally, the thing itself is also incomplete. Stuff like this, it can’t just appear out of thin air, there has to be something attached to it.

Seeing that Wu Tingsheng couldn’t think of anything, Wen Yan could only say,

”This isn’t something that can be cleared up overnight. Take your time and think about it, ask your family, don’t let any tiny detail slip by—really ask, really give it a good think.”

”Also, I suggest you find him a decent teacher, have him build a solid foundation.”

”Even an amateur like me can tell, he’s got real talent, but his basics are pretty weak—clearly he’s never had any proper training.”

”If he wants to recover later, the most promising path is still to rely on himself.”

”Got it, got it, I’ll find him a teacher right away.”

Wu Tingsheng saw Wen Yan out and didn’t turn back until he walked him all the way to his door.

Since people treated him with respect, Wen Yan also didn’t make any empty promises. He could spot the problem, but that was thanks to hints—when it came to actually solving it, he wasn’t too confident.

Wu Tingsheng still had to figure out exactly what happened during that time. Later on, if Wen Yan needed backup, he’d know who to call for advice.

Right now, he couldn’t even be sure who to consult, so he could only jot it down for now. Maybe later, when dealing with the Water Ghost Domain, he could ask around on the side.

Three days later, Wen Yan called Pei Tugou every day to check up on the little brat.

The little guy was recovering fast—eating, pooping, then sleeping after he’s full, waking up to cry after pooping, then sleeping again, and eating when he wakes up.

Probably still needs a few more days before they can truly feel at ease. The matter of moving house can wait till then.

Anyway, Wen Yan had already talked to the director. Virtue City Funeral House had always been short-staffed, not just for in-house work, but especially for people willing to go out as Field Agents.

For example, body pickup—pay rates go up every year, but few are willing to stick to it long-term.

Especially in recent years, strange incidents are happening more and more.

An average person might not feel anything—maybe go decades without coming across one—but people at the Funeral Home deal with the dead every day. Even if these things are statistically rare, for them, it’s certain they’ll run into such things eventually.

There was even a rumor online before, saying that a body picker could make a grand or two in one go. It became a meme, and eventually a Funeral Home came out to debunk it.

Virtue City Funeral House also clarified—it’s not like you make that much every time.

The pay is variable, okay? If it’s a peaceful death, no illness or disaster, well-off family, then even temp workers get the usual rate for that kind of job.

Don’t be fooled by the low pay—because it’s safe, not much work, and easy to do, so that’s the kind of gig most people are willing to take.

Those gigs that pay one or two grand—there’s definitely something up with them.

Either there’s a special situation, or the body hasn’t been found for days or even a month.

Anyway, there’s all kinds of work if you want it—it just depends on whether you’re willing or not.

Wen Yan had sung heavy praises for Pei Tugou’s work ethic and honest character. The director didn’t even ask—just said as long as he’s willing, he could go learn to run the burner with Old Zhang.

The director knew even without asking. Wen Yan’s willing to recommend someone to the Funeral Home, that person can’t be ordinary.

Wen Yan also isn’t the type to send ordinary friends to the Funeral Home. Other people might not know what’s up here, but Wen Yan absolutely does.

Since he’d talked to the director and got the green light, Wen Yan could leave it be.

Honestly, he could’ve helped Pei Tugou into another job, and that’d be fine too. Zhang Laoxi has channels—finding a stable job isn’t hard, just maybe the pay wouldn’t be great.

Wen Yan had asked Pei Tugou, and he was super straightforward—said he wanted to make more money, didn’t mind hardship or exhaustion.

Well, what else is there to say? Then come to Virtue City Funeral House. It’s definitely better than hauling bricks.

Besides, Pei Tugou’s ability is more suited for this kind of place.

At least here, they wouldn’t have to worry that if the Great Killer Star Pei Tugou lost it and offed a client, they’d get into major trouble.

The clients are already dead.

Early morning, after finishing a call and breakfast, Zhang Laoxi drove Wen Yan straight to Duanzhou.

The Little Zombie and Sparrow Cat stayed home to watch cartoons. Sparrow Cat got a phone, so he could order takeout if he wanted anything.

Wen Yan had already cultivated a good relationship with the regular delivery guy for this neighborhood, tipped him twice, now he always snags their orders in seconds.

He was still scared, of course, but poverty is scarier than fear.

If it’s daytime, whatever, but if he had to deliver late at night, Wen Yan would always give the guy fifty bucks to steel his nerves.

Of course, if Sparrow Cat ordered himself, then he’d have to pay the fifty himself.

Sitting in the car, Wen Yan kept reading through the Scorching Sun Department’s archives—specifically on the West River Water System.

He’d been poring over it for two or three days and still couldn’t untangle it. From ancient times to now, there was just way too much information.

Because you couldn’t just treat it as a single river; it was a vast water system. Even the different sections along the main stream each had their own name.

Add in countless legends and all sorts of historical changes, and it was a mess on top of a mess.

This region, in the riverside legends, had Water Gods and so many other titles—it was ridiculously complicated. Wen Yan got a headache just trying to make sense of it all, and was still nowhere near understanding.

”Stop looking at it. Only those college professors who specialize in this field can barely get a handle on it. You, trying to grasp it in two or three days? Dream on.”

Zhang Laoxi saw Wen Yan frown and offered a word of advice.
