MMORPG: Rise of the Primordial Godsmith

Chapter 1794 1794: Assessing Oneʼs Worth

”Hmm?”

Hearing Florentine mention his name all of a sudden, Xervei paused for a bit as he allowed the nebulous energy surrounding his hand to remain in place.

Though, after seeing how she was signaling for him to stop, the man quickly dispelled the energy he had gathered before looking at her with a slight frown.

”Are the rewards not the reason why you brought him here, Aunt Florentine?” he asked, scratching the back of his head. ”You do know how much energy it takes for me to condense a body, right?”

”Thatʼs 3rd great-grandaunt to you, young man,” scolded Florentine in return. ”Then again, is there a need to call me that way? Youʼve called me by my first name in front of Valyr already.”

At those words, Xervei went silent for a bit, trying to recall where he had done just that.

Then again, it did not take long for him to remember, considering that the only time he mentioned her by name was before he planned on giving Valyr his due rewards.

Feeling his face turn slightly red at the realization, the Serpent Maiden continued where she left off.

”As for how much energy it takes to form your body, itʼs not like youʼd have to siphon the entire Shadow Plane just to condense it, right?”

”Tsk, tsk, tsk.” She faintly shook her head. ”Though youʼve been the Overseer of the Shadow Plane for a long time already, it seems that there are still a couple of areas where youʼre still immature.”

”Says the one who kissed the one they were rewarding back then, telling them how doing so was an easier way of forming a connection with the planeʼs Shadowsource,” said Xervei in return, which unsurprisingly caused Florentineʼs face to turn red as well.

Listening to the conversation between the two, Valyr could not help but pause a bit at the mention of being kissed as a reward.

After all, the one who had done exactly that to him was none other than the one that brought him here in the first place.

Though the kiss indeed allowed him to make contact with the Shadowsource, Xerveiʼs words prompted the young man to wonder what other methods there were available for him to make contact with the Shadowsource.

At the same time, he wondered what other reason Florentine might have in doing such a thing.

Was it just to tease him? Or was it a way to improve his relationship with the Shadow Plane?

Valyr faintly shuddered as he thought about the possible implications behind it.

Though, out of all the thoughts he came up with in relation to the kiss, only one stood out the most.

ʼ…How… old is Florentine?ʼ

”Weʼve gone off topic.” While the young man stole brief glances at the woman beside him, Florentine cleared her throat as she forcefully steered the topic of the conversation back to its intended direction.

”Though the rewards are indeed the reason why Iʼve brought him here, I was planning to talk with you about improving the reward heʼs getting.”

Xervei raised his eyebrow at those words. ”Did you come up with this on the spot?”

The woman shook her head.

”Before we arrived,” she clarified. ”After getting a better look at his current level of strength, Iʼve come to the conclusion that we should increase the reward we should be giving him.”

”Of course, not by a lot. I feel like a Tier 2 set would be a perfect reward for him.”

Hearing their conversation finally return to the topic of rewards, Valyr perked his ears up as he listened in.

Though, at the very moment he did, he was left somewhat confused by the term Florentine brought out.

”Tier 2…?” Xervei briefly looked at his 3rd great-grandaunt in silence. ”You say you donʼt want to increase the reward by a lot, but you want me to give him a Tier 2 set?”

”You know how much energy it takes out of the plane to procure that, right? Even Ancient Monarchs would fight over a Tier 2 reward set!”

While the young man listening in on the conversation inwardly gasped in disbelief at how much Florentine wanted to improve the rewards he would obtain, the woman in question returned his words with a confident smile.

”Heʼs worth the expenditure, Xervei,” she said to him. ”Now, if I told you his level is still at the beginning of Rank 5, would that change your thoughts on the matter?”

”…!”

For a while after that, the man remained silent, his gaze shifting between Valyr and Florentine from time to time as the gears in his mind began to turn.

In the end, after pondering over the idea for a few minutes, Xervei let out a soft exhale as he stopped his gaze at Valyr.

”Mind if I take a look at your status screen?”

Though the request made him furrow his brows for a bit, the young man eventually nodded as he went ahead and brought up his status screen for Xervei to see.

Of course, knowing that there were a lot of secrets, he omitted a great portion of it from the man, revealing only the bits and pieces of information he felt were important for the former.

Then again, even that small bit of information was enough to make Xervei look at the young man in front of him in an entirely different light.

”Newly ascended to Rank 5… yet he already has two stats over 10,000…?” he murmured to himself, wondering what kind of encounters Valyr had gone through to achieve such a figure.

Yet, as he looked more and more through the young manʼs status screen, the man felt as if his entire world had been turned upside down for a moment.

ʼNot only does he have an Ancient grade main class in the process of evolution, but he even has a second subclass thatʼs already above his first one in terms of rarity!ʼ

As this thought lingered in his mind, Xervei briefly looked at Florentine as the gears in his mind began to turn once more.

Seeing her look at him with a knowing smile, a wry smile appeared on the manʼs face as he opened his mouth.

”Youʼre right,” he said, his expression becoming calm. ”Heʼs worth the expenditure.”

”Then that means…?” Hearing those words, Florentine tightly clenched her fists in anticipation and excitement.

Yet, that excitement immediately came to a grinding halt the moment she heard the manʼs next words.

”I donʼt plan on giving him a Tier 2 set.” Xervei shook his head, only for a slight grin to appear on his face not long after.

”If anything, it feels more fitting for him to receive a Tier 3 set instead!”
