Reborn and Counterattack: The CEO's Powerful Sweetheart

Chapter 174: 174: Han Shang has also made mistakes

At that time, Han Shang, with bloodshot eyes, said, ”The thing I regret most is trusting my brother, and because of him, my most loyal friend Beckett was killed.”

”Xue Tong, can you believe it? Beckett was smiling before he died! He said he couldn’t continue to accompany me anymore!”

Xue Tong, her old codename...

That day, she accompanied Han Shang through the cold winds of the Sicuro Mafia, walking the path Beckett once took with Han Shang!

...

”Han Shang also made mistakes...” Gu Tong’s memories finally drifted back, but the fragments roamed through her mind, unable to be erased.

”I trust him! He absolutely couldn’t be wrong!” Beckett insisted. This was his trust in the young BOSS, and it was the same mistake he made back then. If he hadn’t trusted Han Shang so much, all the tragedies wouldn’t have happened.

Gu Tong let out a mocking laugh, but her voice was full of sarcasm, ”On that day, the incident with the old BOSS took place at the August Family’s location, that’s true, but how could the August Family be so foolish? Even if they wanted to ambush the old BOSS, would they expose themselves so obviously?”

Beckett was slightly stunned, but he hadn’t expected the young BOSS to tell Gu Tong about such a secret matter. He thought for a moment and said, ”The old BOSS would have his Personal Guard with him when he went out! Outside the August Family’s territory, they had no other chances to strike!”

”I don’t think it’s as simple as that. This matter doesn’t hold up under scrutiny.”

Gu Tong stared firmly at him and said, ”First, have you ever considered the purpose behind the August Family doing this? To gain more benefits? Or to fight to the death with the Sicuro Mafia? Clearly, it’s the former. If they wanted to fight to the death, they could have struck at any time, any place! It certainly wouldn’t have been on the August Family’s territory!”

She made a compelling point!

”Continue!”

It was clear Beckett was somewhat shaken!

”Second, the attacker’s identity is unknown! Hiring and protection aren’t directly related. You can’t merge them into one due to the protection aspect! I think, between Misya and Kun, it’s not a hiring relationship! Otherwise, the West Taigu Mercenary Student Group would have no reason to take on such a daunting task!”

Beckett glanced at Kun behind him, wanting to hear his explanation.

Kun finally seized the opportunity and wouldn’t miss it. He said, ”Misya and I have an engagement; that’s something West Taigu and the August Family agreed upon even before we were born. You can investigate this.”

That explained why West Taigu had always been helping Misya but never the August Family! Everything made sense now!

Beckett was thoroughly shaken. For the first time in his life, he doubted the young BOSS’s orders...

”The third and most important point!”

Gu Tong took advantage of the moment, quickly saying, ”The Personal Guard is the team protecting the old BOSS! May I boldly ask, what happened to the Personal Guard? If they were completely wiped out, it would prove they fought to their deaths to protect the old BOSS. But if any member survived or disappeared, it could only prove that the Personal Guard had betrayed!”

”That’s impossible, the Personal Guard could never do that!” Beckett glared with determination, unwilling to believe that the only person left was the one who harmed the old BOSS!

”Beckett, you once said you were the captain of Han Shang’s Personal Guard. Let me ask you, if Han Shang were ambushed and you were seriously injured, under such circumstances, would you, with your crippled body, protect him against a barrage of enemy fire?”
