Chapter 581: Chapter 259: Livable City

Technical school, it trains technical personnel, and the technical school for electricians trains electricians. The purpose of the Mbeya City Electrician Technical School is also to train qualified electrical personnel for East Africa.

In this era, electricians are an extremely scarce profession. As a new industry, there are very few cities worldwide with widespread electricity, and even most European cities are still in the era of oil lamps and gas lamps, so naturally, there aren’t many electricians.

This time, Mbeya City has hired more than thirty veteran European electricians to serve as teachers at the Mbeya City Electrician Technical School. Considering how recently the power industry has emerged, the value of these veteran electricians goes without saying.

”Gentlemen, if the school is to start, it’ll still be another two or three months more. The entire school is relatively empty, and the personnel and equipment are temporarily incomplete, so I suggest you don’t reside in the school yet. The municipal government has already arranged housing for you in the city. You can prepare your lessons at ease and return to the school in September,” said Director Rodman of the Municipal Education Bureau.

”Director Rodman, I am Adelirros, formerly an employee of Heixinggen Power Company. I want to know if the dormitory is habitable, as I’d like to stay there first?”

”Mm! Mr. Adelirros, why do you want to stay in the dormitory? Currently, the dormitory isn’t suitable for living. It’s not that the living facilities aren’t complete, but except for the administrator, there’s no atmosphere. If you’re not very brave, you might be scared living alone.”

Upon hearing Rodman’s description, Adelirros shivered, as it is indeed unsettling to be too empty.

So he quickly explained: ”I mainly don’t want to make the commute. The house you allocated me is, as I recall, some distance from the school, so I was thinking if I could stay in the dormitory directly; it would save a lot of time.”

Director Rodman suddenly realized, ”Oh, that’s the reason. However, Mr. Adelirros, rest assured that as a teacher, you can apply for staff accommodation at the school once it starts. You can reflect this after the school starts; anyway, there is still some time before it starts. You might as well arrange your new city residence for now, but Mr. Adelirros, I am a bit curious, did you not bring your family this time?”

Adelirros replied, ”You guessed right, I didn’t bring my family to East Africa. As we haven’t settled down, I naturally wouldn’t let my family come over. That’s also one of the reasons I want to stay in the dormitory.”

Hearing this, Rodman stopped asking more questions. He knew that Adelirros, not being young and working at Heixinggen Power Company, should be somewhat well-off, likely having already established a family and career in Europe. If he had brought his family to East Africa, he wouldn’t have wanted to stay in a dormitory.

”Adelirros, I envy you. It would be nice if I could stay in the dormitory too!” a colleague said to Adelirros.

”Um, Mr. Kafei, did you also come alone to East Africa?”

”Not really, I brought my wife along. But frankly, my wife was afraid of me getting into trouble alone in East Africa, so she insisted on coming with me to keep an eye on me. From this, you should know what kind of life I lead normally.”

Rodman and the others couldn’t help but laugh at this gentleman’s words. Rodman consoled, ”This means your wife cares about you. After all, outsiders don’t know much about East Africa. We aren’t as chaotic as they might think.”

”Haha, thanks for your comforting words, Director Rodman. But you don’t understand my wife’s controlling nature. I really regret it now. I was too naive before and got tricked into marriage!”

This time, no one spoke further. After all, it involved personal life, and they were just getting to know each other, so they couldn’t readily label someone’s wife as manipulative based on a statement. As for being tricked, that’s hard to judge, but having married, there’s naturally no real trickery involved.

”Haha, sir, don’t be too down. Today is your first time in Mbeya City, so we have specifically prepared a banquet for you at the hotel, starting at seven in the evening. You can bring your family members. As for the hotel’s location, you can easily find out, as Mbeya City only has one hotel, right next to the municipal government on the west side.”

”Ah, Mbeya City only has one hotel? What about those just passing through, need accommodation; can it handle the demand?”

”This you might not know, but in East Africa, ordinary people on business trips usually stay in inns, which are equivalent to hostels. Previously managed by the Ministry of Posts, they are now independent, primarily for temporary accommodation.”

Rodman’s words puzzled everyone, but it’s understandable since they are new to East Africa. These people initially arrived in Dar es Salaam City, which on the surface, hardly differs from European cities, lively and bustling. But Mbeya City, deep in the interior, is quite different.

”Not only does Mbeya City have only one hotel, but other entertainment venues are also very limited. However, there are plenty of pubs and restaurants.”

”What about casinos and brothels?”

”There aren’t any.”

”Ah! Are you all saints in East Africa?”

”Haha, I mean official ones. I don’t know about unofficial ones, but they might also be hard to find because of the high risks involved.”

”Then life in East Africa is too dull!”

”That’s not entirely true. Even though gambling, drugs, and prostitution are absent, there are still many other entertainment options in East Africa, like football matches, horse racing events, vacations by Lake Malawi, etc.”

”Football matches?”

”East Africa highly values sports, with football being the most popular. There’s a stadium in the suburbs of Mbeya City that can accommodate over twenty thousand people, and the city’s population is only about sixteen thousand. You can see how popular football is. Moreover, Mbeya City has over a dozen football fields, with more than twenty registered professional teams and even more amateur ones.”

”What about horse racing events?”

”The horse racing event is a large gathering that starts every December, lasting for half a month, mainly focused on horse racing, polo, shopping, and consumption.”

”Is Lake Malawi that large lake on the East Africa map?”

”Yes, Europe probably has no larger freshwater lakes than Lake Malawi. Mbeya City is located on the northern shore of Lake Malawi, so going there for vacation and sightseeing is the most enjoyable activity for Mbeya residents. There, you can camp with the whole family, fish, taste Lake Malawi’s famous fish soup, and barbecue. The most distinctive activities are boating and swimming. With Lake Malawi’s vast area, the coastal scenery is almost no different from the sea, so many residents of Mbeya City enjoy vacationing there.”

”Sounds pretty good.”

”Of course, if you live long enough in Mbeya City, you’ll truly fall in love with this city. ’Spring-like all year round, picturesque scenery’ is the best way to describe Mbeya City. I dare say very few cities worldwide are more livable than Mbeya City, and what Mbeya City is most proud of is its extremely low crime rate. East Africa places great emphasis on public order, and the residents are quite well-mannered.”
