Chapter 573: Chapter 251 Press Conference

”The Russians didn’t actually suffer much loss, because the rescue was timely, their Ambassador Chersky was safe and sound, but it’s certain that basically everyone suffered some superficial injuries. The Russian embassy was in tatters after the Japanese assault. This incident mainly concerns the international image of Tsarist Russia, and such an embarrassing affair is incredibly difficult for the Japanese government to easily quell, so Tsarist Russia will definitely make Japan pay dearly.”

The personnel from East Africa’s National Defense Security Bureau summarized the gains and losses of this action. The moment the Japanese were led into the Russian embassy, it indicated that the operation was quite successful.

”Other countries in the embassy district are also dissatisfied with Japan. They are seizing this opportunity to make things difficult for Japan, or in other words, to extort them. Our East African embassy is among them.” With that, the agent of the National Defense Security Bureau couldn’t help but laugh, as it was indeed quite amusing.

As for the other countries making a fuss at Japan, it is understandable too. Japanese police were ’missing’ on embassy district streets, and letting demonstrators rush into the embassy area naturally left the stationed foreign diplomats displeased.

This is clearly a tactic by the Japanese government to eliminate dissidents. Even if there were a few police officers on-site to maintain order on the same day, the situation might have improved significantly.

Even if there is conflict between Japan and East Africa, instigating citizens to storm the embassy and conduct protests or other activities without the consent of various governments is bound to make other nations uncomfortable. Using this move against East Africa today raises questions if it might be used against them tomorrow.

Furthermore, the Japanese even targeted the wrong party this time. Instead of resolving the problem with East Africa, they inadvertently brought calamity upon the Russians.

But the Russians are probably thrilled, as this delivered opportunity shouldn’t be missed. Even if they can’t make the Japanese government cede territory, they should at least secure a hefty compensation.

While the Russians and other countries trouble Japan, East Africa is responsible for adding fuel to the fire, especially as Japan’s main target, Ambassador Kade, has grown more disgusted with the Japanese government after hearing about the Russian ambassador’s predicament. If the Russian embassy hadn’t taken the hit, the consequences would have been borne by the East African embassy.

Moreover, the loss caused by the impact on the East African embassy, Ambassador Kade is confident that Japan won’t compensate, and might even use this opportunity to make issues over the Southern Ryukyu Islands with East Africa.

Thinking of this, Ambassador Kade spat out, ”Damned scum, full of evil schemes.”

The agent from the National Defense Security Bureau suggested to Ambassador Kade, ”Ambassador, when we meet with other countries later, perhaps we should propose that the embassy district be jointly overseen by all countries. Citing that Japanese police are not trustworthy and involve the safety of diplomatic personnel, ideally turning this area into an extraterritorial enclave separate from Japan.”

”Are you suggesting a concession?”

”Hehe, you could see it that way. Originally, the Japanese were targeting us this time, so there’s no need to give them much face. Besides, we need to continue putting pressure on the Japanese government, distracting them until the arrival of the main fleet of the naval expedition in the Southern Ryukyu Islands.”

Japan certainly wouldn’t agree to recreate a concession, a loss of sovereignty and humiliating act. Of course, East Africa just wants to trouble Japan. Who told Japan to be lacking and unable to ensure the safety of diplomats in the embassy area? Now Ambassador Chersky is still recuperating in the hospital! This is a typical case of trying to gain a loss.

As the National Defense Security Bureau and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of East Africa cooperated for the first time to figure out how to pose trouble for the Japanese government, everyone in the Japanese government was also on edge, especially those who planned and executed using civilian forces to coerce East Africa.

Just as expected, the Edo Metropolitan Police Department took the responsibility first, naturally, as a show for other governments.

The Superintendent-General of the Edo Metropolitan Police Department attended the press conference, bowing ninety degrees in apology to various countries, showcasing the rich atmosphere of Japan’s bowing culture.

”This riot occurred due to a mix-up in the schedule during staff adjustments at the police department. As the head of the Edo Metropolitan Police Department, I am deeply sorry and willing to bear the consequence for my negligence. Personally, I will compensate Ambassador Chersky and other injured personnel’s medical expenses, and after handling this incident, I will resign as Superintendent-General for a more virtuous person to take this position...”

Reporter: ”Mr. Superintendent-General, what is the real reason for this diplomatic incident in the embassy district? Some say the incident was entirely orchestrated by the Japanese government, with the government as the mastermind. What do you think? Also, I want to ask if this is related to conflicts between the two countries in the Northern Asia region.”

”This is pure slander. We share a close bond with Russia, and as for the so-called Northern Asia conflict, it is an incorrect interpretation; cooperative ties between the two countries in Northern Asia outweigh competition.”

”Mr. Superintendent-General, there is a rumor that this diplomatic incident initially targeted East Africa, but because the crowd didn’t recognize the East African flag, they mistakenly attacked the Russian embassy. Is this true?”

”Reporter, our Japanese government was not involved in this incident, so there’s nothing targeting East Africa, and whether rumors are true or not shouldn’t be given too much credence.”

”Mr. Superintendent-General, since the Japanese government wasn’t involved, then who is the real culprit of this diplomatic incident?”

”Due to the chaos at the scene, we are unaware of the specific culprit for this diplomatic incident, but we have identified suspects, and after Ambassador Chersky identifies the perpetrator, we will announce the progress of this case to the public.”

”Mr. Superintendent-General, what was the ultimate goal of the suspect?”

The Superintendent-General of the Edo Metropolitan Police Department did not directly answer but said, ”Their identity is mainly students, but most of them were instigated by others. Young people are prone to mistakes, as they haven’t entered society yet and lack related experience, thus easily manipulated and incited by ill-intentioned individuals.”

”Are you implying that the masterminds behind the diplomatic incident are students in the city of Edo?”

”Of course, I didn’t mean that. In fact, these student groups could only be regarded as coerced participants and considered accomplices because most students shouldn’t even fail to recognize the Russian flag.”

Even though the Superintendent-General of the Edo Metropolitan Police Department wants to use students as a scapegoat to share the pressure, he can’t truly pin their crimes, so the excuse of being instigated was apt. He had just characterized the troublesome students as accomplices, only warranting verbal warnings.

However, he wanted to close the matter, but the reporters wouldn’t let him: ”Mr. Superintendent-General said earlier about not recognizing the flag, does this imply that previously your country targeted another country, but mistakenly harmed the Russian embassy?”

”...”

At this moment, the Superintendent-General realized he had misspoken, getting caught by the reporter.

”Baseless. We had no intentions of scheming against any country, and as for the spontaneous actions of the public, it has nothing to do with our government!”

”Hmm, that’s not right! Just now, you said students were instigated by someone, which means someone orchestrated the action, yet now it’s turned into public spontaneous behavior. This contradiction fits my impression of Edo’s officials talking carelessly.”

”Haha...” Laughter erupted in the venue, as this reporter landed a sharp jab in the heart of the Superintendent-General of the Edo Metropolitan Police Department.
