High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2543: Chapter 764: Friday Night, Late

Regarding the disappearance of Old Yao during the curse class, Zheng Qing also planned to ask these devils about it.

He originally planned to mention it casually after the scheduled meeting, to see if he could gain any unexpected insights. However, Lucifer unexpectedly brought it up early, saving him a lot of trouble.

But it also aroused his suspicion.

Because the fact that Old Yao disappeared halfway through class was not widely known — he even suspected that apart from the students of Astronomy Class 08-1, not many people at Jiuyou Academy knew about it.

Yet Lucifer was able to accurately describe the timing of Old Yao’s disappearance, and coupled with that familiar ’hand-raising’ gesture, it immediately brought many faces to Zheng Qing’s mind.

Ultimately, it was the flower-skinned little pig who awkwardly broke the silence in the room: ”... Isn’t it normal for the professor to disappear for half a class? I remember a professor who taught alchemy often didn’t show up for the entire class.”

”Someone even wants to inquire about the whereabouts of a Legendary Wizard?” Mamon, the fox with fiery red fur, muttered in a low voice that everyone could hear: ”... Truly reckless.”

In contrast, the other cat in the room showed a curiosity matching her appearance.

”Are there any more clues?”

Although Lady Leviathan sat obediently in place, her forward-leaning posture and slightly eager tone clearly reflected the self-destructive curiosity characteristic of cats: ”I mean, with just one time point, it’s hard to...”

Lucifer didn’t wait for her to finish, interrupting directly: ”There are... It’s rumored that He went to the Silent Forest, but the specifics are unknown. This information came to me unintentionally from Jiuyou Academy. My inquiry is just out of a bit of personal, pure curiosity. If anyone knows the specifics and thinks the information is dangerous, there’s no need to speak out.”

As he spoke, he adjusted his broad wings, wrapping himself tighter, seemingly for a sense of security. Clearly, he realized his earlier recklessness and felt a tinge of regret.

During this, the Black Cat quietly observed Lucifer’s every move, comparing him to everyone it knew, but due to lack of clues, was ultimately unable to ascertain the other’s identity.

Just then, Samael’s voice abruptly sounded, immediately drawing Black Cat’s full attention.

”Monday morning, the Silent Forest, huh?”

The black-and-white big wolfdog frowned, with a somewhat grave tone: ”I did hear something that might be related to what you mentioned. It’s said that several tribes have mysteriously vanished in the Silent Forest recently, including ogres, goblins, minotaurs, and horse-men... On Monday morning, a horse-man tribe disappeared collectively. Rumor has it that a great demon infiltrated the forest, or that a black wizard is conducting illegal magical experiments. Some speculate that last year’s upheaval made the spatial structure of the Silent Forest extremely fragile, and those vanished tribes were swept away by sporadic space-time turbulences. In any case, this is probably the biggest news in the Silent Forest recently...”

The whiskers at the corner of the Black Cat’s mouth twitched slightly.

Joining this well-informed secret society was an incredibly correct decision. Just like the disappearance accident of the horse-man tribe, these devils could provide more perspectives and possibilities for the same information.

After Samael fell silent, the conference room was quiet for a moment, with no one else speaking.

The Black Cat stepped forward.

”If no one else has anything to say, let’s continue with the previous agenda.”

It cleared its throat and glanced around: ”Last week, due to the scheduling conflicts of several members, we didn’t hold a meeting. Today’s main topic is still about collecting biological information such as blood and hair of a certain teaching assistant classmate. I understand, this task is difficult and not easy to accomplish, but this task has been ongoing in our society for nearly a month. So, if, I mean if, everyone doesn’t have the confidence to complete this last segment of the work, then I can apply to the client to terminate...”

Gollum.

An amber rolled to the Black Cat’s feet, abruptly interrupting its speech.

The Black Cat pressed down on the amber with its paw, surprised to see a cluster of bright red blood encased in the translucent resin fossil, about the size of a fingertip. An obscure link from the depths of its body clearly told it this blood was its own.

It restrained the impulse to pry open the amber immediately, raising its gaze in the direction the amber rolled from.

It was the red-furred fox, Mr. Greed with the code name ’Mamon’.

”First of all, I want to emphasize that I don’t know the origin of this amber either.”

The red fox pressed down on a ’spot on the white jade’ with its paw, speaking somewhat lazily: ”I just picked it up under the table. I’m sure it was someone in this room trying to make me some kind of scapegoat... Regardless, I still like the feeling of lying down and earning money... So, I hand in this task, and when the task settles, I need a higher commission.”

The True Word Stone didn’t light up, meaning Mamon was telling the truth.

At the same time, two other voices emerged around the conference table.

”I completed it too.”

”And me.”

Beelzebub and Asmodeus almost spoke simultaneously, but what they brought out was completely different.

The flower-skinned little pig tossed out a crumpled tissue with traces of blood on it, making the Black Cat’s mouth twitch as it recognized it as the tissue it casually discarded during a recent nose-blowing incident — now, it had reason to suspect that its recent nasal discomfort was not just pollen allergies or seasonal rhinitis.

What a relentless world.

”These tissues were painstakingly collected,” the flower-skinned little pig proudly flicked its large ears, but upon seeing the amber containing Zheng Qing’s blood, its ears drooped: ”Of course, compared to Mamon’s amber, mine might be slightly inferior.”

The Black Mountain Goat kicked over another amber, inside which were a few slightly singed hairs. It leapt onto the conference table, tap-tapping over to the red fox and placed its hoof on the spot on the white jade.

”I don’t know where these hairs came from either,” it tilted its head and spoke slowly: ”Just now while everyone was chatting, I stretched my leg and then kicked it...”

”Why don’t I have such luck.” The Persian Cat envied the two pieces of amber.

”Probably because your legs aren’t long enough... or not greedy enough,” Belfinger clicked its bird beak, glanced around at everyone, and chuckled quietly.

”Why would someone give up a high-value task reward and choose such a bizarre method?” Lucifer wrapped its large membranous wings around itself, as if warming up.

”Probably because it doesn’t need money,” Beelzebub muttered a guess.

”More likely, if it submitted these materials, it might expose its identity,” Mamon chuckled, the large red tail gently swaying behind: ”If you remember this afternoon’s news... There’s a high chance that this blood was collected during the Astronomy Class 08-1 practice class, including the few strands of hair that were clearly struck by lightning. This means it’s highly likely that a classmate of the target is sitting in this room with us... or rather, a classmate they don’t get along with. Otherwise, there’s no reason to deliver such a big gift to us for no reason.”

Listening to the red fox’s analysis, the conference room was momentarily filled with an eerie silence.

Bats, Persian Cats, Wolves, Peacocks, Red Foxes, Little Flower Pigs, Black Mountain Goats, and Black Cats, eight pairs of eyes scrutinized one another, as if someone’s true identity might be exposed in the next second.
