High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2528: Chapter 749: Resignation

”Don’t laugh! Do you think this is funny?”

”You’re already sophomores; in the blink of an eye, you’ll be facing graduation and grading exams. This is about your lives, your future; it’s not funny at all!”

At this point, Old Yao raised his hand holding the pipe and pointed at Jiang Yu, who was already seated: ”Look at her, the same age as you, but in a few months she will graduate from school and become a real registered wizard...”

Li Meng tried hard to raise her hand, seemingly wanting to remind the professor that there were people of different ages in the classroom, but unfortunately, Old Yao deliberately didn’t look at her short arm and continued to sternly reprimand:

”...And you? You started two years behind others, and what about the future? As the saying goes, fall behind in one step, fall behind in every step; lagging behind on the path of magic might mean missing a lifetime!”

All eyes in the classroom fell upon the upright figure seated in the central front row, with complex emotions like envy and admiration.

But a few glances stealthily shifted toward the back right corner of the classroom, focusing on a certain warlock.

Zheng Qing had a wooden expression, emotionless.

Perhaps sensing his words were a touch too harsh.

After a few seconds’ pause, the professor changed the topic: ”The other matter also concerns Student Jiang Yu. As I just mentioned, Student Jiang Yu plans to graduate early, so her coursework this semester is very heavy, leaving her little time for class activities. This afternoon she submitted her resignation to me, and I had no reason to refuse... In fact, the fact that she persisted for three weeks before giving up this responsibility completely surprised me... Now, let’s give a round of applause to thank the monitor who has served you for three semesters.”

Thunderous applause erupted like a tide.

Among them, Li Meng’s performance was the most exaggerated; she even boldly stood up, waving her arms and cheering, colorful light spots bursting from her hands, exploding midair into a shower of flowers, and the professor on the podium didn’t stop her, but rather encouragingly gave her a thumbs up.

Others also received this subtle hint.

In the blink of an eye, the atmosphere of congratulations reached a climax—the originally bare blackboard instantly became resplendent, lines of beautiful floral script filled with blessings for the retiree; one paper crane after another, filled with good wishes, gracefully landed on the witch’s desk; others used magic to summon a group of harp-playing sprites, surrounding Jiang Yu’s head amidst the shower of flowers, singing melodious tunes.

Zheng Qing had never seen Jiang Yu so embarrassed yet so happy—because the enthusiastic paper cranes kept coming, she didn’t have time to push the little witch hopping beside her back to her seat.

”You should go up now and give her a big hug!” Xiao Xiao lowered his waving arms and, tilting his head, encouraged the slightly quiet boy beside him: ”...It would be even better if you could give her a kiss!”

Zheng Qing glared at him, about to speak, when Xin Fat Man’s mocking voice came to his ear.

”And then get smashed to bits by spells from Su Councilor’s supporters?”

He squeezed his chubby hand; although his knuckles didn’t crack, it didn’t lessen the seriousness of his warning to someone: ”I must remind certain people that sometimes I can turn a blind eye, there are things you can do secretly... But if you insist on prying open my eyelids to see things I can’t tolerate, then I will join others in rushing up!”

Zheng Qing’s eyelids twitched slightly.

He cleared his throat, intending to explain that he wasn’t that reckless when a third voice came to his ear.

”Speaking of which, Brother Qing, Jiang Yu resigned as class monitor to focus on her studies, how about you?” Zhang Ji Xin’s red-faced look mirrored his glowing eyes: ”Don’t you think the responsibility of the Absolution Hunting Team is too cumbersome and heavy for you? Will it affect your studies?”

”No, it doesn’t affect me at all.”

Zheng Qing finally found the chance to speak, he pulled up his mouth into a stiff smile, decisively extinguishing what little hope someone just had: ”I’ve always been able to balance the hunting team and my studies very well...”

”That’s because you’ve pushed most of the hunting team’s work onto the Doctor.” Xin Fat Man unceremoniously mocked.

”Alright now!”

Old Yao’s voice rang out in the classroom, not loud but easily reaching everyone’s ears. He raised his hand and pressed it down a bit, as the flying flowers, harp-playing sprites, and the bustling noise in the air all disappeared, leaving only the blessings on the blackboard and a paper crane desperately flying into Jiang Yuhuai’s arms as witnesses to the brief but intense moment just now.

The sudden change in atmosphere made many people feel a bit uncomfortable.

The professor on the podium seemed to notice this and didn’t give everyone more time to think, directly starting the next topic: ”Since Student Jiang Yu has resigned, our class needs a new female monitor, so the first thing in today’s class meeting is for everyone to nominate and confirm the candidate for the new monitor...”

”But can’t you see directly?”

The lively Li Meng, still enjoying the recent excitement, bravely stood up again, shouting out, and then, seemingly realizing her tone was somewhat impolite, hurriedly added a respectful address: ”...Professor!”

This time, Jiang Yu didn’t give her a chance to keep bouncing, pressing the little witch back into her seat with a slap. However, her statement had already resonated throughout the classroom.

”Yeah, yeah, wasn’t our monitor selection through Professor Yi’s divination in the first year?”

”The monitor chosen by divination was very good, I support divination!”

”Wizards should use divination!”

”Nominations inevitably dissatisfy some people...”

The professor nodded repeatedly, raising his hand to hush everyone’s chatter, smiling: ”I thought you guys would enjoy the process of selecting with votes... Well, everyone raise your hand, let’s see how many agree to appoint the monitor through divination and how many support the traditional nomination method... Hmm, those in favor of divination, raise your hand first.”

Whoosh!

Rows of arms shot up almost simultaneously.

Zheng Qing didn’t count carefully, but from the corner of his eye, he could tell that those in favor of using divination held the majority opinion in the class.

Old Yao spread his hands, pleased and relaxed: ”Since that’s the case, the next female monitor will be Liu Fei Fei. Then on to the next thing... regarding some feedback about insects entering the dormitories these days after the awakening of shocked creatures, since this year’s silent humidity wasn’t severe, many magical creatures that feed on insects have decreased, causing the insects awakening post-shock not to be cleared in time, the School Works Committee is already looking into this matter, so you all don’t need to worry...”
