High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2508: Chapter 729: Safety Protocols

Friday night.

After the meeting of the Seven Sins, the Black Cat did not go to the Cat Fruit Tree to relax as usual but instead returned hastily to dormitory 403, full of thoughts.

This meeting with the Devils was very rewarding.

Apart from learning the means they used against him, the most important thing was the information revealed behind Belfinger’s analysis—that those who could easily tell the changes in the group led by ’Zheng Qing’ must be someone around him, possibly even someone very familiar with him.

Therefore, he urgently needed a qualified advisor to help him identify who around him could be the eyes of the Seven Sins, or even consider that the devils of the Seven Sins might be near him.

”It’s difficult.”

Xiao Xiao stroked the crystal ball in front of him, drooping his eyelids as if he were about to fall asleep: ”The clues are too vague to calculate the specific target through divination... More importantly, you need to understand one thing, it’s not just your acquaintances who will pay attention to you, but those familiar with you will all notice you.”

”Is there any difference?” The Black Cat flicked its ears, feeling that there wasn’t much difference between the two statements.

The Diviner glanced at it and explained patiently, ”The difference is, your acquaintances are people you know, which is the part you are concerned about; but you might not know who those familiar with you are at all. Ever heard of a stalker? That’s a type of ’familiar person’. In fact, as a public figure, there are many eyes watching you in places you can’t see... So, it’s not difficult nor surprising for these people to notice the changes in your movements before and after the start of the semester.”

This logic is very simple and easily understood.

However, this result left Zheng Qing particularly conflicted, uncertain whether to breathe a sigh of relief, feeling grateful that ’possibly’ it wasn’t his acquaintances betraying him, or to continue to be stressed over the indiscriminate observers lurking somewhere.

”Moreover, just because Lucifer raised his wings before speaking, you assume he’s a student of Jiuyou Academy, which is a bit presumptive.” Xin Fat Man said while brushing Tuan Tuan’s fur, analyzing another of the Black Cat’s guesses: ”According to what you’ve told us before, the devils in your little secret society are very cunning, often disguising themselves under different identities to confuse others... How do you know that bat wasn’t just raising its wings to mislead you?”

”Even if your guess is correct,” Xiao Xiao looked up, adjusted his glasses, and glanced at the Black Cat crouching at the edge of the desk, slightly intensifying his tone: ”Even if Lucifer is a student of Jiuyou Academy or Edge Academy, the range is too large, trying to find a person deliberately hiding their identity among hundreds or thousands of people with the few months you have left in school is definitely far from enough.”

’The remaining few months’ was the key point.

Upon hearing this, Zheng Qing felt discouraged.

Yes, he would be graduating this semester, with studies so heavy that he couldn’t even attend the daily training of the Hunting team, how could he spare the effort to catch those sneaky individuals!

”So, should I ignore them?” The Black Cat drooped its ears and spread its paws.

”You can’t completely ignore, nor give them excessive attention.”

Xiao Xiao conveniently pulled out a piece of parchment from the side, snapped his fingers, and a feather pen instantly jumped out eagerly from the pen holder, landing on the paper, and began to record according to the Doctor’s dictation: ”First and foremost, based on the content of your recent meeting, you should first protect yourself by setting a few safety rules for yourself...”

The feather pen left the large and flamboyant title ’Safety Rules’ at the header of the parchment page.

”The first rule is to reject all dances.” Xin Fat Man raised the brush in his hand and answered with a grin.

The Black Cat sighed.

Xiao Xiao agreed with a nod, ”That’s right, to avoid being enchanted by some pretty little witch at a dance... Yes, I know you wouldn’t, but just in case, for your own safety, you need to reject all dances.”

”Just reject the dances at school, right?” The Black Cat sounded somewhat uncertain.

”Do you need to attend any dances outside the school?” Doctor Xiao adjusted his glasses, his gaze sharp.

”Um, there are also socials, club meetings, and student council meetings, I can’t attend those either.” The Black Cat pretended not to hear the Doctor’s retort and started counting on his paws, urging the feather pen to note it down: ”Hmm, including the Hunting Competition...”

That last term caught Xiao Xiao’s attention.

”Speaking of the Hunting Competition,” he lowered his head and rummaged through a pile of materials at hand, quickly taking out an invitation: ”Here, this is an invitation to a private hunting competition organized by the Starry Sky Hunting Team, with participants including Judgment, 3A, You Yao Qi, Glory, YPO, Auspicious, Clover, Ouroboros, and a whole bunch of registered and pre-registered hunting teams... I’ve already accepted the invitation on your behalf, well, since you can’t attend anyway, this is just to inform you.”

As he spoke, he waved the invitation in front of the Black Cat.

Zheng Qing only managed to catch a glimpse of the flamboyant signature at the end of the invitation, ’Starry Sky Hunting Team Leader—Jiang Hua,’ before it returned to the stack of documents beside the Doctor.

”Why let me see it if you don’t need my consent?” The Black Cat flicked its tail irritably, suspecting the Doctor was deliberately taunting him without cause.

”Procedural justice.”

The Diviner of the Absolution Hunting Team casually explained, then knocked on the table, causing the feather pen floating above the parchment to dance joyfully again: ”Additionally, it’s very necessary to carry an Invisibility Talisman and a Dust Repellant Talisman regularly.”

”Why carry a Dust Repellant Talisman? Are you worried someone will curse him?” The Fat Wizard immediately considered a certain possibility.

”No, I’m concerned that someone might suddenly shout ’You’re unworthy’ and throw lime in his face.” Xiao Xiao shrugged: ”A Gu Worm might not be able to penetrate his skin, but lime sure can blind him temporarily... I recently read up on the history of unregulated combat at the Starry Sky Academy, there was a time when throwing lime for surprise attacks to gain temporary advantage was very popular in the ring, until later when most participants started wearing Dust Repellant Talismans, this reprehensible method slowly disappeared... Didn’t Mr. Zha say so? Those devils will stop at nothing to engage in conflict with him...”

”Why shout ’You’re unworthy’?” The Black Cat wasn’t concerned with the history of the Starry Sky Academy, but was a bit interested in a term Xiao Xiao just mentioned.

This time, even Tuan Tuan glanced at him disdainfully.

”Because you really are unworthy!” The Fat Wizard angrily looked at the Black Cat: ”The entire school, no, the entire Alliance, including the Land of Desolation, is there any wizard who thinks you are worthy of Su Councilor?”

”Therefore, attacking you with this reason would instead gain public sympathy and support,” Doctor Xiao calmly analyzed: ”I suspect if someone attacks you for this reason, there could be some people in the school who would subtly help the attacker receive absolution, without causing any unusual divination reactions.”

Oh, this damn jealousy!

The Black Cat suddenly felt like there was a bright ’red name’ flashing above its head, and it instinctively coiled up its tail.
