High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2509: Chapter 730: Awakening of Insects

The ”red-named” Zheng Qing immediately became much more well-behaved and obedient.

The next day, Saturday, he still had five classes to attend. Due to the meeting last night, the young wizard didn’t take off his invisibility charm and dust-repelling charm for the entire day. For safety’s sake, he even went to Greenhill Mansion for lunch.

Those devils wouldn’t poison the mansion of a big wizard, right?

Of course, his trip to Greenhill Mansion wasn’t just for a free meal — it had been nearly a week since Su Shijun last discussed the graduation thesis with him. During this time, the beautiful Su hadn’t given him any tasks, as if the meeting had never happened.

Thinking of how Jiang Yu had to squeeze in time between classes to gather materials for the thesis, while he idled away, Zheng Qing felt a strange sensation of being abandoned by time.

”I already assigned you a task!”

Surprised at the young teaching assistant’s unease, the owner of Greenhill Mansion said, ”Didn’t I tell you to find some time to chat with that Shadow Cat? Have you recorded the conversation?”

As she spoke, she elegantly spread some pomegranate sauce on a piece of baked cod with a dinner knife, then cut it into equally sized square pieces, arranging them neatly on the plate piece by piece.

Watching her cut the fish, Zheng Qing couldn’t help recalling his own shadow being sliced away.

The last time he ”parted” with the shadow, the circumstances weren’t exactly pleasant - to escape from under Zheng Qing’s feet, the shadow did some ridiculous things, like pretending to sit on Jiang Yu’s shadow in the sun and making some indecent gestures, or shamelessly mingling with other witches’ shadows in broad daylight, etc. - which was why he subconsciously wanted to forget this task.

”I don’t know where the office building of the relevant department is.”

The young man murmured, vigorously cutting the fried egg on his plate while searching for excuses, ”And with five classes every day, the break time isn’t enough... By the evening, the entire academy is already deserted.”

”Isn’t Master Bao Yangzi teaching you? I’ve spoken to him, so you can directly approach him,” Su Shijun replied while poking a small piece of baked fish into her mouth, then glanced at Poseidon and said, ”Don’t bury your head in the milk dish!”

Immediately, two Fox Maids approached, one wiping the Little Fox’s milk-stained mouth with a warm towel and rearranging the dishes, while the other adjusted her posture, tied on the napkin, and even adjusted the bow at the tip of her tail.

The Little Fox drooped her ears, letting out a forlorn sigh as she glanced at Zheng Qing.

”Don’t sigh at the dining table!” Su Shijun reminded without looking up, ”You’re a lady, not like the dog hiding in the corner.”

Zheng Qing instinctively searched around the dining room’s corners but did not find Furry Bean’s presence.

”It worries about me neutering it and only dares to show up when I’m not around.”

The owner of Greenhill Mansion nonchalantly sliced a small piece of buttercream nut cake and put it on Poseidon’s plate, while giving the young teaching assistant a glance, ”... Do you want some?”

Zheng Qing was still stunned by the vulgar word that had just popped out of the witch’s mouth, instinctively clamping his legs together and replying briskly, ”Yes, yes, I want some.”

The owner of Greenhill Mansion gave him a peculiar look, sliced another large piece of nut cake, and placed it on his plate.

It was only then Zheng Qing realized that Su Shijun had been asking if he wanted dessert, and feeling embarrassed, he bowed his head, eating humbly, not uttering another word during the remaining lunch time.

After lunch, before leaving the mansion, Zheng Qing noticed a sachet tied to his belt at some point, stuffed with processed herbs such as mugwort, mint, neem, and lavender.

Regarding the origin of the sachet, Su Man, the head maid who sent him off, didn’t conceal anything: ”Today is the Awakening of Insects, this sachet is to ward off insects as prepared by the lady... and Miss Dongdong has one as well.”

Zheng Qing looked back at the mansion behind him with mixed feelings.

In the small garden, peach blossoms are red, pear blossoms are white, and roses are yellow, with grass lush and orioles flying, the oriole chirping lightly. The little fox reads diligently by the window, twilight mist arises gently, and the spring scenery sweetly permeates the hard green stone.

Saturday afternoon featured two small classes, one on Dimension Faction Introduction and the other on the Convergence Principle.

The Convergence Principle was a course after time conversion, with only Zheng Qing as a student, the teacher being Master Bao Yangzi. After the class, Zheng Qing gathered his courage and stopped the elder wizard who hadn’t left the classroom, mentioning that he needed to chat with the Shadow Cat.

”Ah, sorry, old age makes people forgetful... Both Old Yao and Su Councilor have mentioned this to me.”

Master Bao Yangzi knocked on his head with a raised hand, showing no sign of apology, his expression as rigid as ever: ”However, I need to remind you that since it self-destructed in last year’s Battle of the Black Prison and returned to your feet, its memory of initially escaping the two-dimensional world is certainly somewhat distorted... Hmm, let me give you a rather inadequate analogy, much like when you play the ’whispered word game,’ it was the first to see the word; by the time it gets to you, several rounds have passed, and preserving the ’original intent’ becomes difficult... Does this explanation make sense to you?”

The young wizard nodded repeatedly: ”Understood, understood... I just want to have a simple conversation, make some notes... to use for my graduation thesis, I don’t need particularly profound content.”

”Graduation thesis, eh?” Master Bao Yangzi showed a slight interest: ”What is the topic?”

Zheng Qing furrowed his brows, trying to recall the name Su Shijun had told him: ”Um, it’s about the ’Christian-Moonlight Conjecture’s preliminary proof, discussing how low-dimensional transcendence experiences aid high-dimensional transcendence processes...”

”Oh, that’s right.”

The elder’s eyes showed a glimmer of understanding: ”That black cat was indeed born in Little Su’s laboratory, wasn’t it... Very excellent topic, after you submit it, I will review it carefully.”

Outside the window, in the distance, a continuous rumbling of thunder could be faintly heard, making Zheng Qing feel as if he had misheard.

”You, review? My graduation thesis?”

He chuckled dryly–in his impression, at First University graduation theses were reviewed by the Professor Joint Meeting, never before had he heard of involving relevant departments.

Master Bao Yangzi retrieved a piece of letter paper from his pocket, patiently folding a small green paper crane, and handed it to the warlock.

”When you want to see that cat, just follow the paper crane,” he simply explained the purpose of the paper crane, finally giving the young man a meaningful look: ”As for your thesis... besides us, which other department at the school has the authorization to review it? Just like this session of ’Convergence Principle,’ can you find this course in the teaching plan?”
