Chapter 227: Chapter 226: Controlling the Earth Fire

One must never lose focus during alchemy.

Yet, Master Yuan Lang was speaking even as he performed his alchemy.

Such a feat was clearly beyond the abilities of an ordinary Alchemist.

As Ling Fei watched, he grew incredibly excited. ’It would be amazing if I could reach Master Yuan Lang’s level of mastery!’

Amid his excitement, he was also itching to try it for himself.

On the lecture platform, Master Yuan Lang worked continuously, refining various medicinal ingredients into liquid essences.

”Different medicinal ingredients produce liquid essences with different properties. Some can be congealed into ointments, while others cannot and can only remain as liquids. Therefore, you must be prepared. For liquids, have vials ready in advance; for powders, have sectioned containers ready...” Master Yuan Lang explained continuously, commentating on every single step.

This allowed the students to learn by comparing his instructions to their own experiences with alchemy.

It helped many of the students clearly identify the source of their own problems.

Of course, an ordinary Alchemist could not divide their attention during alchemy like Master Yuan Lang. This required immense Control Power and experience.

”Alright, everyone may now begin your own alchemy.” After demonstrating more than ten times, Master Yuan Lang said in a deep voice, ”If there is anything you don’t understand, feel free to ask me.”

”Yes!” All the students below the platform nodded.

”Ling Fei!” Master Yuan Lang’s gaze shifted to Ling Fei. ”You do not possess a True Fire. If you wish to practice alchemy, you must first learn to control Earth Fire.”

Ling Fei’s eyes narrowed. ’Control Earth Fire!’

”Today, you will begin by learning to control Earth Fire. If you succeed, you will have taken another step forward on your path in alchemy,” said Master Yuan Lang.

”Yes!” Ling Fei nodded. He knew this was a necessary step on his path to mastering alchemy.

”These are the Earth Fire Alchemy Platforms,” Yuan Chong said, leading Ling Fei toward a row of Alchemy Platforms at the side of the Alchemy Room.

Ling Fei walked up to an Alchemy Platform, his eyes fixed on it. ’Earth Fire!’

There were Array Patterns on the platform, which were apparently used to connect to a Fire Vein deep underground.

”As long as you activate the Array Patterns, the Array will draw forth the Earth Fire. However, controlling this Earth Fire will require your powerful Soul Power,” said Yuan Chong. ”To control the Earth Fire, you must first control the Array. But controlling the Array consumes a massive amount of Soul Power, something an ordinary person simply cannot do.”

”If your Soul Power is insufficient and the Earth Fire goes out of control, not only will you destroy the elixir, but in extreme cases, it could even cause the Pill Furnace to explode.”

”Of course, Pill Furnaces are generally protected by Array Patterns, so they don’t explode that easily. What’s more likely to happen is a backlash against your soul.”

”That is the true danger of using Earth Fire for alchemy,” Yuan Chong said, his expression turning grave.

It was for these reasons that many people dared not rely on Earth Fire for alchemy.

Of course, many Martial Arts Cultivators possess strong Soul Power.

However, these Martial Arts Cultivators had already progressed far on their path. It would be very difficult for them to halt their progress to rashly take up alchemy.

After all, if you halted your progress, your peers would likely surpass you.

Under such pressure, not many Martial Arts Powerhouses would rashly change their focus.

Ling Fei’s eyes narrowed. ’Powerful Soul Power, is it?’ he thought. ”Well then, let me give it a try today!”

He had a fair amount of confidence in his own Soul Power.

At the very least, his powerful soul was beyond anything a Cultivator at the Celestial Spirit Realm could possess.

Even some Cultivators at the Primordial Pill Realm could not match Ling Fei’s Soul Power.

”In that case, give it a try!” said Yuan Chong. ”This Array has different intensity settings. Trigger the ordinary Earth Fire first and learn to control it slowly.”

Ordinary Earth Fire was slightly milder and required less Soul Power to control, making it relatively easier.

”Alright!” Ling Fei nodded. With a move of his palm, he injected Essence Qi into the Array Patterns on the Array Platform.

These were the Array Patterns for a low-intensity fire.

BUZZ!

As the Essence Qi flowed in, Light Patterns immediately flared to life.

In the next moment, a scorching aura began to radiate from the Array Platform.

”Is that Ling Fei trying to control Earth Fire?”

”Heh, I wonder if he’ll actually succeed!” As Ling Fei activated the Array Patterns, soft chuckles echoed through the Alchemy Room.

Following this, many of those who had been preparing for alchemy fixed their gazes on Ling Fei.

Even Master Yuan Lang squinted, his eyes fixed on Ling Fei.

He, too, was looking on with anticipation, wanting to see if the young man could create a miracle.

”The Fire Vein is connected! Immediately release your Heart Spirit and merge it with the Array Core to control the True Fire,” Yuan Chong said from the side.

”Mm.” Ling Fei’s eyes flashed. A wisp of his Heart Spirit, carrying a vast amount of Soul Power, immediately poured into the Array Patterns before him.

BUZZ!

As his Heart Spirit submerged into the True Patterns, Ling Fei felt as if he had entered an Array Space.

Inside the Array Space, a scorching aura billowed out. A torrent of fire was surging in, flooding the space with a current so hot it felt like it could shatter one’s soul.

For many Cultivators using Earth Fire for alchemy, the first time they connected with the fire, their Heart Spirit would be nearly incinerated into nothingness by the scorching torrent.

Their Heart Spirit would retreat, and their attempt to control the Earth Fire would end in failure.

However, to control the Array Patterns, one had to withstand the scorching heat of this fiery torrent.

This was the difficulty of controlling Earth Fire.

’The temperature of this fiery torrent is indeed terrifying, it feels like my very soul is about to be incinerated. But it won’t be so easy to stop me.’ Ling Fei’s Heart Spirit was fearless. Within the Array Space, it took the form of a man, his imperious gaze scanning in all directions, searching for the Array Core.

Only by merging with the array could he gain further control over the Earth Fire.

’The Array Core is just ahead!’ With a flicker of his Heart Spirit, Ling Fei sensed its location.

However, a torrent of fire was sweeping through the area in front of him, making it incredibly difficult to approach.

’Go,’ Ling Fei commanded. His Heart Spirit shot forward.

The moment his Heart Spirit moved, the fiery torrent surged toward it.

”Break!” Ling Fei was utterly imperious. Even as just a wisp of Heart Spirit, it charged forward like a True Dragon.

BANG!

Wherever Ling Fei’s Heart Spirit passed, the fiery torrent before it scattered instantly. In a flash, his Heart Spirit appeared before the Array Core.

Then, like a dragon, his Heart Spirit plunged into the Array Core.

BUZZ!

Instantly, the Array Patterns blazed with brilliant light, as if a profound Divine Technique had been activated.

WHOOSH!

A Qi Vortex formed, drawing in all the nearby flames.

The flames moved according to the Array, sometimes forming a gentle current, other times surging violently.

’I can control the Earth Fire!’ Ling Fei was overjoyed within the Array Space.

He could now clearly use the Array to command the Earth Vein Fire it was connected to.

However, he was still familiarizing himself with how to control the flames.

Inside the Array Core, one Array Pattern after another materialized before Ling Fei’s Heart Spirit.

’This Array Pattern connects to the Fire Vein and can draw forth the Earth Vein Fire... this one closes the opening to the Fire Vein... and this one connects to the Furnace Cauldron.’

Ling Fei familiarized himself with each Array Pattern one by one.

A short while later, Ling Fei had finally become completely familiar with the Array.

’Time to try guiding the fire into the furnace.’ With a thought, Ling Fei controlled the Earth Vein Fire, directing it into the Alchemy Furnace on the Alchemy Platform.

Instantly, the Array Patterns on the Alchemy Furnace were activated. Earth Fire poured in from the edges, and the temperature in Ling Fei’s immediate area soared.

”Such a scorching aura!” The sudden spike in temperature drew a flurry of attentive gazes.

”It’s Earth Fire! That Ling Fei actually managed to control it!” Cries of astonishment immediately rang out.

”How long has it been? He already controls the Earth Fire?” Mo Jiuyan’s brow furrowed. He had been waiting on the side, expecting to see Ling Fei make a fool of himself.
