My Most Beautiful Fiancée

”Oh, listen to you, wanting to take me on a trip? Where could these old bones of mine possibly go?”

Qu Zizi said, ”You can go wherever your heart desires, but we have to get this injury healed first!” She knew her grandmother best. While she might say no, her heart was already set on it.

’I’ll go put together some travel plans as soon as I get back,’ she thought. Once Mu Lin healed her grandmother, she would take her on a trip around the world.

The old woman said, ”Zizi, I know you’re a good granddaughter, but your brother is also coming today. It seems he’s found a doctor for me, too.”

”He said that doctor is quite amazing. Don’t you see? This is just redundant.”

Huh? Qu Zizi’s mouth fell open, and she couldn’t help but be surprised. ”My brother is coming?”

”Sis! Long time no see! Your big brother here has missed you to death!”

Qu Zizi had barely finished speaking when her cousin walked in. Seeing him, she pursed her lips and rather reluctantly called out, ”Brother!”

The old woman said, ”Ren Jie, you’re back!”

”Hi, Grandma! I have great news for you. There’s finally a way to treat your injury! I just met a famous doctor who’s incredibly skilled. With him on the case, it’s a guaranteed success!”

The old woman chuckled. ”Alright, alright. If you say so, Ren Jie, then Grandma is truly happy!”

Qu Renjie sat down with his girlfriend, but his greedy gaze fell upon He Zheng.

”Hello, Miss He. It’s only been a short while, yet you’ve grown even more beautiful! I wonder what lucky young man you’ll end up with.”

He Zheng bristled at his words. ’I’m not some object. How can it be called a ’bargain’ for whoever I happen to like?’

”No one will think you’re a mute if you just shut up!” He Zheng snarled, glaring at Qu Renjie.

Qu Renjie just chuckled. ”Yes, yes! No wonder everyone says you’re a spitfire. You really don’t pull any punches, do you?”

He Zheng couldn’t be bothered to deal with Qu Renjie, her tone turning icy.

Mu Lin was sitting beside Qu Zizi. Qu Renjie looked him up and down and said with a chuckle,

”Zizi, is this your boyfriend?”

Qu Renjie had already sized him up. Mu Lin’s entire outfit was cheap, street-stall quality. That was all he needed to know about Mu Lin’s capabilities.

’Just a good-for-nothing,’ he thought. ’Nothing to worry about.’

Qu Renjie said, ”So, where do you work? It’s not that I’m trying to look down on you, but my cousin here is used to a pampered life. She can’t handle hardship.”

”If she were with you, I’m afraid she wouldn’t even be able to afford her morning bowl of beauty-enhancing soup anymore.”

Mu Lin pursed his lips but said nothing.

’What Qu Renjie said actually made some sense,’ Mu Lin thought. ’If Zizi and I were really a couple, he’d be the best brother-in-law in the world.’

’But we’re not, so why is he getting so worked up over nothing?’

Mu Lin glanced at Qu Renjie and said with a smile, ”I’m a project team leader at a construction company.”

Qu Renjie narrowed his eyes and pressed on,

”So, what’s your salary? Can you support my cousin?”

Mu Lin smiled faintly. ”I make two hundred thousand a month, plus bonuses.”

Qu Renjie suddenly threw his head back and roared with laughter. ”HAHAHA! That’s the funniest joke I’ve ever heard!”

Qu Renjie pointed at Mu Lin. ”Do you have any idea what a hundred-thousand-a-month salary entails? Do you know what kind of people earn that kind of money?”

Mu Lin shrugged. ”You’re right. Everything you say is right.”

’I’ve told the truth,’ Mu Lin thought. ’If he doesn’t believe it, that’s his problem.’

Qu Renjie turned to Qu Zizi. ”Sis, it’s not that I’m looking down on you, but this is just really worrying. You have no idea how things are in the real world, do you?”

”Forget everything else, he won’t even be honest with you about his salary. What else can we possibly trust him on?”

Qu Zizi’s expression darkened. ’This cousin of mine is so annoying.’

But for the sake of ”family,” she had to play along.

He Zheng had no such reservations. She pointed right at Qu Renjie’s nose. ”You, shut your mouth! Mu Lin is here to treat Grandma. What the hell does his salary have to do with you?”

Qu Renjie froze for a second, then burst out laughing. ”You can’t be serious. Him?”

”What’s wrong with him?” Qu Zizi demanded, her face stern and displeased.

”Does he even have a license? Where did you dig up this gem!”

Qu Renjie started yelling, ”If he messes up Grandma’s treatment, are you going to pay with your life?”

Qu Zizi’s face paled, the pressure suddenly overwhelming her.

Qu Renjie pressed his advantage, continuing to berate her. ”Did you not even think of that? I really don’t know what goes on in that head of yours.”

Seeing Qu Renjie deliberately belittling Mu Lin, He Zheng declared, ”What are you talking about! How could Mu Lin possibly harm Grandma? I’ve never met a better doctor than him!”

Qu Renjie reacted as if he’d heard the most hilarious joke, roaring with laughter. ”You think I’d believe that? You have to learn to crawl before you can fly!”

”I’ve brought a famous doctor from Songyang! Countless people, from near and far, seek him out for treatment. He’s leagues better than whatever stray you dragged in!”

Qu Zizi’s mouth fell open. Hearing Qu Renjie’s description, which sounded somewhat familiar, she asked tentatively, ”Could it be… the Divine Doctor Shi?”

Qu Renjie said smugly, ”So you’re not completely clueless. That’s right, it’s the one and only Divine Doctor Shi Huiguang! He’s practically a pillar of the Nanjiang Medical Dao. The other pillar is Divine Doctor Zhao Yang.”

Mu Lin cringed just listening to him. ’The Shi Huiguang I know doesn’t have that kind of skill.’

’Back at Hidden Sword Manor, Shi Huiguang was full of wicked plots, trying to get Zhao Yang killed.’

’Talk about a small world for enemies.’

’But last time they met in Songyang, they resolved their conflict. They smiled and let bygones be bygones. This time, I should probably give Shi Huiguang some face,’ Mu Lin mused.

When the old woman heard Shi Huiguang’s name, her eyes lit up. ”Oh, my dear grandson, you’ve really made something of yourself! To think you could invite Divine Doctor Shi!”

Qu Zizi was a bit stunned. ”Grandma, even you know of Divine Doctor Shi? Is he really that incredible?”

The old woman clapped her hands. ”But of course! Divine Doctor Shi came to our town once. The mayor himself went to the station to greet him, welcoming him with gongs and drums.”

”The mayor’s wife had an illness that no one could cure, but for Divine Doctor Shi, it was a piece of cake.”

Hearing this, He Zheng couldn’t help but lower her head. Shi Huiguang had been famous for so long; she didn’t know if Mu Lin could really compare.

”But Mu Lin is amazing, too! Just give him a chance, and he’ll definitely impress you all.”

Qu Renjie pointed at He Zheng. ”Miss He, I understand you mean well for my grandmother, but you’ve been completely duped by this charlatan. Name one famous doctor who didn’t make their name in their fifties or sixties. How old is he? What kind of experience could he possibly have? What skills? Think about it—if there really was such a young and brilliant doctor, would he still be this obscure?”

He Zheng’s resolve wavered.

Mu Lin said, ”Miss Qu, Shi Huiguang can’t cure your grandmother’s illness. He doesn’t have that kind of ability.”

This was a direct slap in the face to Qu Renjie. He had invited Shi Huiguang, so this was a matter of his own pride.

Before he could start yelling, his girlfriend spoke up.

”You son of a bitch. Not much skill, but a big mouth. Who are you to question the skills of Divine Doctor Shi?”

Her name was Yu Xing. She carried herself with an air of elegance, dressed head to toe in form-fitting designer brands. Her clothes were so perfectly tailored, without a single wrinkle, they seemed designed solely to accentuate her every curve.

Mu Lin smiled. ”You don’t look like a doctor to me, so I suppose you have no right to comment on Shi Huiguang’s abilities either, do you?”

Qu Renjie cut in, ”Don’t talk nonsense. Yu Xing’s ancestors were very close friends with Shi Huiguang’s family, which is how I was able to invite the Divine Doctor. You say she doesn’t know his skill? I think you’re the one who doesn’t know his own limits, just making a fool of yourself!”

Mu Lin just smiled, not bothering to argue with Qu Renjie. Qu Renjie took this as a sign of surrender and was immensely pleased with himself.

’There’s no point in pushing it further,’ Qu Renjie thought. ’It would just make me look petty.’

Just then, a loud noise came from the courtyard outside—the sound of a car pulling to a stop.

Qu Renjie craned his neck to look outside and instantly grew excited. ”Look, that’s Divine Doctor Shi’s car! He’s here! Grandma, don’t worry, your recovery is in sight!”

With that, he pushed the door open and rushed out to greet Shi Huiguang warmly.

Mu Lin smiled faintly and also got up to go outside. ”Let’s go. No point just sitting in here, right?”
