High School DxD: Return of the Crimson Dragon Emperor

Chapter 452: Chapter 442 Valkyria focused on support

Valkyria focused on support, assisting those who were being pushed back. Seeing a group of yokai cornered by an Evil Dragon, she pulled kunai from beneath her skirt and threw them with surgical precision. The blades sank into the dragon’s hide, but it wasn’t enough to kill it.

However, thin wires were attached to the hilts, leading back to Valkyria’s hands.

”Lightning... sear them.”

As she whispered the incantation, a surge of electricity raced down the wires. The dragon was cooked from the inside out. As it collapsed, paralyzed, the yokai finished it off.

Whether it was blinding enemies with poison needles or ensnaring limbs with wires, Valkyria’s style was devoid of flash but terrifyingly efficient. She fought without emotion, seeking the maximum result with the minimum effort.

She’s the kind of opponent I’d never want to face in a Rating Game, I thought.

”Everyone’s going all out,” Dulio, the leader of D×D, said as he stepped to the front. He flared his ten wings, his holy power skyrocketing. ”Balance Breaker!”

With a roar of light, the sky momentarily cleared. Twelve golden wings—the same number as a Seraph—erupted from his back, and four halos manifested above his head.

Dulio spread his hands. Suddenly, hundreds of Evil Dragons and Duplicates were encased in transparent, bubble-like spheres.

In the next instant, the inside of those bubbles became a microcosm of the apocalypse: raging infernos, shredding gale-force winds, absolute-zero frost, and divine lightning. Every natural disaster imaginable struck the trapped enemies simultaneously.

Dulio continued to fill the sky with bubbles.

”This is the Zenith Tempest’s sub-species Balance Breaker: Speranza di Briscola (The Final Star of Hope). Unlike the bubbles that stop fighting, these are meant for ’Divine Punishment.’ Sorry for the long name! It just turned out this way because it’s a sub-species!”

A sub-species Balance Breaker of a Longinus. They say the Zenith Tempest can change the weather of an entire country if the user wishes... seeing this, I didn’t doubt it for a second.

”Our leader is as reliable as ever,” Rias said, her eyes narrowing. ”But I won’t be left behind.”

She was looking at a pack of 100-meter-tall ”Mega-Beasts” Belle had created. A single swing of their fists was scattering our allied units. Their fire breath was a one-hit kill. Miu moved to activate her Shin-ki to intercept them, but Rias stopped her.

”I can handle this now. Yuto, are you ready?”

”Always, President.” I smiled.

Rias began condensing Power of Destruction in her hands. It was only the size of a basketball, but the density was so high it made my skin crawl. Just standing near it felt like my very existence was being erased.

I dispelled my crimson knights and assumed my Knight of Knights form. Clad in my black coat, I draped myself in the dual powers of Holy and Demonic. I held my katana-shaped Holy-Demonic sword in my right hand and two dagger-shaped ones in my left.

We shared a nod. I plunged one dagger into the ground and vanished with god-like speed. I blurred across the battlefield, cutting down anything in my path. Once I reached a certain point, I hurled the second dagger. It whistled through the air and embedded itself deep into the skull of one of the Mega-Beasts.

No blood flowed—the hide was too thick. But I wasn’t trying to kill it yet. I was just setting the anchor.

Suddenly, a black-red orb appeared above the dagger’s hilt. It was the mass of destruction Rias had been holding.

Rias snapped her fingers.

The sphere began to spin violently, expanding with an explosive force. It sucked in everything—beasts, dragons, and duplicates—into a vortex of annihilation. Within the sphere, the enemies were sliced into smaller and smaller pieces by blades of concentrated destruction before vanishing entirely.

”Lisha gave me the advice,” Rias explained. ”I don’t have the sheer output of my brother yet. So, instead of trying to erase a massive object all at once, it’s more efficient to shred it into tiny pieces first. I modified my power. Anything caught in that star is carved away by blades of ruin. I call it: Ruin Extension Star.”

She wiped a bead of sweat from her brow. ”My growth isn’t just for show. But... the projectile speed is still too slow, and it lacks the suction of my brother’s version. I might accidentally hit an ally if I’m not careful. It requires perfect coordination with you, Yuto. I still have a long way to go.”

Thanks to the combined might of the Alliance, the enemy forces surrounding the Trihexa were thinning. Apopis continued to churn out dragons and duplicates using the Grail, but we were growing accustomed to his patterns.

We were closing in. If we could stop the Grail, we’d destroy their primary production line. We’d win this sector and move to the center of this world.

Just one more step, I thought.
