This Life, I'm Raising the Right Man

The Pang Family sent someone to pay the silver.

Su Yaoguang left with Cui Hongxiu.

Seeing Su Rende constantly staring at Su Yaoguang’s back, the Pang Family felt uneasy.

Could the General have taken a fancy to that woman?

For years, the General has refused to marry, and despite her many efforts to win his favor, she could not get close to him. Some said he was wounded fundamentally on the battlefield, and she believed it. But today, the way he looked at that young girl was so passionate, not like someone disinterested in women.

Could it be that she has brought trouble upon herself?

”General, Nanny Tang is old. Can we not send her to the estate? I’ll make sure to discipline her. She won’t do such foolish things again. After all, Nanny Tang has seen much hardship and does tend to be a bit opportunistic. But still, she is from my family.”

”As a General, once an order is given it must be carried out. If words are not kept, how can I maintain any prestige in this General Mansion?”

”But...”

”If you cannot bear to part with her, then go with her to the estate. This way, you can personally look after her.”

The Pang Family, with a dark expression, said unwillingly, ”I understand, I will do as the General says.”

”In the future, be more careful in your actions, and do not easily trust the tricky slaves’ words.”

”Yes.”

Su Rende left with large strides.

The Pang Family, angrily said, ”After all these years, he still doesn’t show me any face. Even a stone would have warmed by now, does he have any heart? My husband sacrificed his life to save him back then. He clearly promised to take good care of us mother and daughter. Yet he still refuses to marry me.”

”Madam, if this continues, and he gets seduced by some other vixen, your status as the mistress of this General Mansion will become nominal, and you will find no place here.”

”But he won’t marry me, or even touch me, what can I do?” the Pang Family said angrily, ”Have I not been attentive enough to him all these years?”

”The General is a responsible man. Once you and he are together, he has to be responsible whether he wants to or not. Madam, you should act decisively.”

”You’re right. I can’t just sit and wait any longer. He can afford to delay, but can I? I’m not getting any younger, and if I don’t find a way, I won’t be able to have a child to inherit the General Mansion.”

Taoyao Square. Zhang Zhaodi paced back and forth at the entrance until she saw Su Yaoguang and Cui Hongxiu return in a carriage, then walked up quickly.

”My dear daughter, you really worried me to death. Just now everyone was talking about how you intercepted the National Guardian General in the street and followed him to the General Mansion to confront him. Although it’s said that the National Guardian General is a decent man, you were accusing his family, who knows if he’d cover for them? Thank goodness you came back safely, praise the heavens.”

”I think the National Guardian General lives up to his reputation, he truly is an upright person,” Su Yaoguang said, ”Now that it’s settled, you don’t need to worry anymore.”

”Boss lady, I even received a compensation of one hundred taels of silver!” Cui Hongxiu waved the purse in her hand. ”The boss said I should keep it for compensation.”

”It’s your due. Such a beautiful face being beaten like that, you must have felt so desperate and frightened at the time! It was us who provoked that old woman, yet you were the one to suffer.” Zhang Zhaodi touched Cui Hongxiu’s cheek. ”You don’t need to work these days, just rest well, you’ll still receive your wages. Jing’er’s ointment needs to be applied daily, you won’t have scars.”

Cui Hongxiu’s eyes reddened, ”The boss and the boss lady are so good to me, I’d rather never marry and stay at Taoyao Square forever.”

”What is this little girl thinking?” Zhang Zhaodi said, ”Stop crying, be careful your tears don’t make the wounds more painful.”

When Su Yaoguang returned, everyone surrounded her asking about what had just happened.

Various kinds of rumors had already spread in the market. But there were too many exaggerated elements in those, it was more accurate to ask the person involved.

”The General’s wife is quite good-looking,” Su Yaoguang said.

”That is not the General’s wife,” the woman next to her said, ”General Su has no wife. That woman is the wife of General Su’s life-saving benefactor. It is said that General Su was pursued by enemy forces, fell off a cliff, and was saved by a hunter. The hunter, in order to lure away the pursuers, died at their hands, his last wish was for the General to take care of his wife and daughter.”
