This Life, I'm Raising the Right Man

Zhou Wangshu spat out the pastry.

Su Yaoguang saw him choking, his face red and neck stiff, so she took off her water bottle and offered him a drink.

”This pastry is not good. It chokes you,” Zhou Wangshu said, ”Don’t eat it, let someone else have it.”

Su Yaoguang slapped away Zhou Wangshu’s restless hand, put away the pastry, and said, ”You were eating in such a rush. If it didn’t choke you, who else would it choke?”

Zhou Wangshu saw how carefully Su Yaoguang put it away and said in a peculiar tone, ”True. Even a bad pastry is precious if given by the right person.”

Su Yaoguang touched his forehead, ”You’re not having an episode, are you? What nonsense are you spouting that I can’t understand a single sentence of it?”

”Didn’t you say before that our marriage is fake, and I can leave anytime I want? If I find someone I like, you’ll let me go and give me a divorce document, right?”

Su Yaoguang nodded, ”Yes, what’s wrong?”

”What do you think of this Boss Jiang?” Zhou Wangshu looked into her eyes.

Su Yaoguang said, ”He’s warm-hearted, polite, and kind. He’s a gentleman among merchants!”

”That’s quite a high evaluation,” Zhou Wangshu muttered.

”What else could it be?” Su Yaoguang glared at him, ”Even though we prepared a lot of food and supplies in advance, it’s just a drop in the bucket. If he hadn’t been sending supplies up the mountain repeatedly, we would have run out long ago.”

”He’s doing all this to leave a good impression on the government. Then their shop will get accredited and enjoy tax exemptions.”

Zhou Wangshu continued, ”Even if you’re looking for a suitable husband, this guy won’t do. His gentlemanly demeanor is just superficial. He’s actually involved with his sister-in-law in a dubious relationship.”

”Impossible!” Su Yaoguang was shocked, ”Boss Jiang isn’t that kind of person.”

Zhou Wangshu scoffed, ”Oh, he’s not that kind of person? I’m just making it up, slandering him.”

Saying this, he grabbed the pastry he had just bought from her hand.

”You have the pastries Boss Jiang sent, so I won’t eat these I bought for a hundred cents a pack. After all, they can’t compare to his.”

Su Yaoguang: ”... Did he take the wrong medicine?”

After Zhou Wangshu left, Zhang Pandi came over, ”Wang Shu bought pastries for you, and you keep talking about Boss Jiang here and there without even trying a bite of what he got for you. How could he not be upset? He’s jealous!”

Su Yaoguang suddenly understood, ”So that’s it.”

Truly a child at heart, even jealous of this.

A little monk ran over and said to Su Yaoguang, ”Benefactor Su, you were right, that Ms. Jiang really wanted to bathe in the mountain spring. If we hadn’t been guarding there, she would have ruined the drinkable spring water.”

”Wu Jie, there aren’t too many patients lately, so we can manage. Your main task now is to watch those two people and stop them from disturbing the peace in the temple. Oh, and keep an eye on that Wen family as well.”

The Wen family didn’t go down the mountain, staying by claiming illness. Now that Jiang Yihuan has embarrassed herself, Xiao Yanci certainly can’t stand the smell on Jiang Yihuan, giving the Wen family another opportunity to appear.

”Boss Su, that Wen family is quite interesting. She actually boiled water for Jiang Yihuan to bathe with. Oh, how attentive she is, not holding a grudge about being drugged. What do you think is her motive?”

Su Yaoguang laughed, ”She’s so magnanimous that Student Xiao might feel guilty and think that her love for him is so deep that even if he doesn’t love her, he should at least consider her feelings and talk to her gently, not hurt the heart of an affectionate woman.”

Aunt: ”...”

Do scholars really think that deeply?

Even with several brains, I couldn’t think of that much!

No wonder they can study while I feel sleepy just listening to storytelling.

”Yaoguang, something’s happened.” Jiang Jing ran over and said to Su Yaoguang.

”What’s wrong?” Su Yaoguang asked.

”The patients sent over yesterday came from a neighboring city and are in a very serious condition. I isolated them, but now the patients in the adjoining meditation rooms are worsening.”

”I’ll go have a look,”

”No, you shouldn’t go. I’m worried you’ll be affected by the illness. Their illness is different from ours. I need to give them a new prescription and test it out,” Jiang Jing said.

”I’ll help you,” Su Yaoguang said, ”You need someone to assist you, and you can’t do it alone. How many patients have worsened?”

”Twelve were sent up the mountain yesterday, and twenty-seven in the nearby meditation rooms have worsened, totaling thirty-nine,” Jiang Jing said. ”The most urgent task now is to move the other patients further away from those two severe wards.”

Su Yaoguang turned to Zhang Zhaodi, ”Mom, leave the other patients to you all. Jing’er and I will handle those two wards.”

Zhang Zhaodi frowned, ”Daughter, I’m worried. How about I assist Jing’er, and you don’t go?”

”I recognize some medicinal herbs, so I can help Jing’er better. Mom, don’t worry. Jing’er and I are both smart and will be fine.”

”I’ll go too,” Zhou Wangshu said, ”Didn’t Jiang Jing say before that those who’ve been sick aren’t easily reinfected? I was so sick before, so my body can definitely withstand more than you all.”

Su Yaoguang nodded.

Jiang Jing made a list and had Zhou Wangshu go down the mountain first to buy medicinal herbs.

The current stock of medicinal herbs is clearly inadequate.

Since the epidemic coming from the neighboring city differs from theirs, the treatments won’t be the same either.

Jiang Jing made a list of medicinal herbs based on the responses from those patients. Once these things are purchased, she will try each one to see which prescription is most effective for the patients’ conditions.

While Zhou Wangshu went to purchase the herbs, Su Yaoguang followed Jiang Jing into the critical care ward.

She had Zhang Zhaodi explain the reasons and forbade anyone from stepping into this area.

Everyone knew the seriousness of the situation and dared not disobey.

”Boss Su and Doctor Jiang will be okay, right? Buddha, Bodhisattva, please protect these two kind people!”

”The officials in the neighboring city directly burned those patients, not even treating them. They managed to escape to us and brought this disaster upon us.”

”If it were you, wouldn’t you want to live? Everyone wants to live. They want to live too, and it’s understandable.”

Zhou Wangshu returned with the herbs quickly. The moment he returned, he took medicine to ward off the epidemic and covered his mouth and nose before entering the critical care zone.

As soon as he stepped into that meditation room, a strong stench filled the air, one that couldn’t be masked even when his mouth and nose were covered.

”How are these people?”

”Their bodies are ulcerated,” Su Yaoguang said, ”The situation is more serious than we imagined. It’s like trying to save a dead horse as if it were alive now because their conditions are exceedingly dire.”

”Yaoguang, the government has come again, sending another twenty critical patients up the mountain,” Zhang Zhaodi said tremblingly from outside, ”How are we supposed to accommodate them?”

”Mom, you and everyone clear out the nearby meditation rooms and arrange the other patients as far away as possible. The nearby meditation rooms will all house the critically ill,” Su Yaoguang said.
