This Life, I'm Raising the Right Man

Zhou Wangshu sat up and said irritably, ”Where did you go to save the world again?”

Su Yaoguang placed the bought baked pancake on the stove to toast it, and when it sizzled with oil, she called him over to eat.

”I just went to the county government.” Su Yaoguang briefly explained what happened earlier. ”I have to return to Taoyao Square soon and focus on the tasks the government assigned to me.”

”You’ve taken on the hot potato.” Zhou Wangshu took a bite of the pancake, ”Dealing with those patients is troublesome. If the protection isn’t done well, you’re the most likely to catch the disease.”

”Did you forget we have Jing’er? The purpose is to make a name for Jiang Jing. This is a crisis but also an opportunity. Once this crisis passes, the whole city will know how good Jiang Jing’s medical skills are.” Su Yaoguang reassured him, ”Besides, haven’t I been living, eating, and sleeping with you for the past few days? Isn’t that proof that Jing’er’s medicine works and that the plague can be guarded against?”

Zhou Wangshu quietly ate his pancake.

Su Yaoguang poured him a cup of water and said, ”Should I call my mother to take care of you? Or ask Second Aunt or Third Aunt?”

”No.” Zhou Wangshu instinctively refused.

He didn’t want to eat, live, and sleep with them.

If anyone else stayed under the same roof with him, wouldn’t it be awkward to death?

”How about Uncle?”

”I don’t want anyone.” Zhou Wangshu said, ”You’ve been noisy these days. Now that you’re leaving, I can finally have a few quiet days. Don’t bother me anymore.”

”So you dislike me that much!” Su Yaoguang pretended to wipe tears. ”You’ve hurt my feelings so much.”

Zhou Wangshu: ”...”

Su Yaoguang reminded Zhou Wangshu a few times, packed her things, and left.

As Zhou Wangshu saw Su Yaoguang off, Xiao Yanci was being fussed over by two women eager to feed him. From the window, he watched Su Yaoguang leave with her bag and sneered.

”The owner is back.” Zhen Yuanfang came forward, ”Boss, the government came and took Miss Jiang away. Several madams were worried and went to see, but haven’t returned yet.”

Su Yaoguang said, ”Don’t worry, the government has things to arrange. I’ll have to go over soon as well. How is your brother doing?”

”Last night, Miss Jiang examined him, and after taking two doses of medicine, he no longer has a fever and has just woken up.” Zhen Yuanfang said, ”The kindness of you, our boss, towards us brothers will be remembered by me all my life.”

”It’s good that there’s no problem.”

Su Yaoguang had just returned to Taoyao Square when the government officials came to find her. She followed them to the place where they were housing the patients.

The government had actually placed the patients in a temple.

Under Jiang Jing’s guidance, the monks in the temple took medicine and covered their mouths and noses. After the preparations were done, they took care of the patients.

”Amitabha...” The Abbot approached Su Yaoguang, reciting a Buddhist prayer. ”Although born with hostility, you have chosen hope over malice. Your actions surely bless you abundantly.”

Su Yaoguang returned the gesture and seriously looked at the Abbot, ”Master, what do you mean by that?”

What does it mean to be born with hostility? In her past life, she was just an ordinary village girl. Though her father left for the frontier early on and was never heard from again, her mother raised her despite hardships, making her a kind-hearted person, hardly born with hostility. Though reborn, she carries resentment from dying unjustly, which naturally harbors hostility. She could choose to retaliate against Xiao Yanci but feels he isn’t worth it.

Her greatest regret was neglecting her mother, not cherishing the time spent with her. Before, her thoughts were all on Xiao Yanci, missing the time with her mother. In her new life, her heart only contains love for her mother, and the desire to make amends for past regrets and to show compassion for Zhou Wangshu, who died prematurely in her past life, naturally diminished any hostility in her heart.

When disaster strikes, in her previous life, she knew nothing and survived with difficulty in the countryside. Now that she is in the city and knows this will happen, she certainly wants to help save more people.

”The answer is already in your heart.” The Abbot recited the prayer, ”Saving lives today also accumulates blessings for yourself. If you need anything, just ask, I’ll take my leave now, benefactor.”

Su Yaoguang watched the Abbot leave.

”Yaoguang...” Jiang Jing waved her hand in front of her, ”What are you looking at?”

”How many monks are here?” Su Yaoguang asked.

”Over forty!” Jiang Jing said, ”The monks said there were originally only a dozen. Many refugees have come here, and some, unable to survive, have chosen to become monks.”

”All the monks and patients need to have their information recorded. Hang all their data in their rooms, like how long they’ve been ill, symptoms, daily recovery status, etc.”

”You’re right; this makes it easier for us to monitor. With so many people, relying on memory can lead to confusion, but black and white records won’t.” Jiang Jing said, ”I’ll have them take care of this immediately.”

”Mother and the others weren’t affected, right?”

”Your godmother is very enthusiastic.” Jiang Jing said, ”She says this is a good deed money can’t buy. She wants to do more good deeds and save more lives to bless you.”

Jia Chunni walked over and said, ”We’ve just counted, there are already over a hundred patients, and more are arriving continuously. Can the temple really accommodate so many people?”

”Buddha is merciful and won’t stand to see so many citizens suffering. Use every available space, and fetch supplies from the city for bedding.” Su Yaoguang said, ”If a patient recovers, observe them for three days, and if no issues arise, they can leave. I see some with mild symptoms that could recover in three days. Without guidance on medication before, now there is, they’ll recover quickly.”

”Yaoguang, is that Wang Shu?” Jiang Jing pointed across.

Su Yaoguang turned and saw Zhou Wangshu standing not far away with a group of people.

She walked over quickly and scrutinized him, ”Why are you here?”

”My illness is cured, I can help you with some work.” Zhou Wangshu pointed to the people behind him, ”These are food and clothes brought by Zhong Chushan and Chen Buyu; I thought you might need them now.”

”Your symptoms have only slightly lessened and aren’t completely cured.”

Jiang Jing said, ”Let me check his pulse!”

After checking Zhou Wangshu’s pulse, Jiang Jing said, ”Though still a bit weak, he’s indeed cured. He just needs to rest well, and no longer take the previous medicine, just switch to tonics.”
