This Life, I'm Raising the Right Man

The Mountain Master and the teachers covered their mouths and noses with cloth before entering the room.

They had prepared for a foul odor, but upon entering, they found the room clean and tidy, not only without any unpleasant smell but also with a faint floral fragrance in the air.

They looked at the incense burner on the table. One of the teachers asked, ”The patient is already sick, will burning this incense affect the condition?”

”This is not ordinary incense, it’s medicinal,” Su Yaoguang replied. ”It’s made by the doctor in our family. This incense can dispel the sickness in the room.”

The eyes of the Mountain Master and the teachers lit up.

”I must say, this incense really makes one feel refreshed. I had a bit of a headache before, but now I feel much better,” said one teacher.

”I have some here. If the teachers don’t mind, you can take some back to use,” Su Yaoguang said, taking a few boxes of incense from a drawer nearby.

The Mountain Master and the teachers tried to decline, but unable to resist the offer, they accepted them.

After receiving the incense, they looked at Zhou Wangshu with more eagerness. One of the teachers felt Zhou Wangshu’s forehead and said, ”It’s not as hot as others, seems to be improving.”

Others not only had vomiting and diarrhea, making the room a mess, but their bodies were burning like little furnaces.

”Miss Su, do you have any more of that medicine? We certainly won’t use it without paying; we can keep an account and have the sick pay for it later,” the Mountain Master asked.

”We do have more medicine, but would it be safe to use it on them recklessly? Perhaps it would be better to consult with another doctor first! Or, perhaps ask for permission from the government?” Su Yaoguang suggested. ”The government must also be eager to figure out the cause of the illness. If they agree to test the medicine, I’ll bring it out for everyone to try.”

Of course, she was willing to bring out the medicine to resolve everyone’s crisis. After all, if the illness spread, the whole county would become a tomb. Since she knew this was going to happen in advance, she wouldn’t just watch so many people die. However, she didn’t want to take the blame. The medicine could be brought out, but someone else had to make the decision.

The Mountain Master and the teachers huddled together, discussing something, finally agreeing unanimously with Su Yaoguang’s suggestion.

They immediately went to seek approval from the Lord County Magistrate. As long as the Lord County Magistrate agreed, they would invite a few doctors to jointly discuss the prescription. If there were no problems, they would try the medicine.

After the Mountain Master and teachers left, Su Yaoguang returned to the room to check Zhou Wangshu’s condition again.

No matter what the Mountain Master and the teachers decided, she had already given them a package of herbs. If they had any questions, they could contact Jiang Jing, whose information she had provided.

She told them Jiang Jing was a famous doctor who, after her family fell into decline, became her sworn sister while living outside.

Jiang Jing was too young. If she couldn’t earn their trust, they might not let her participate in the rescue operation. The medicine was made by her, but if someone else took credit for it, that wouldn’t do. Though she genuinely wanted to save people, her habit of not liking to be at a disadvantage was true as well. She intended to use this opportunity to make Jiang Jing famous, as it was what she deserved.

On the other side, Xiao Yanci was in a daze from illness, vaguely hearing someone crying. He struggled to open his eyes, only seeing a messy room with no one in sight.

He strained his ears to listen, eventually finding the source of the sound. The strong voice outside the door was none other than Jiang Yihui’s. The crying came from Jiang Yihuan. Her voice was soft and weak, like a kitten’s; no one in the world cried more beautifully than she did.

”You’re crying again! Besides crying, what else can you do? I haven’t seen you come to see me since your brother fell ill, but you stay with that Xiao. Do you still have the nerve to cry?”

”Brother, Brother Xiao is very ill, I can’t just ignore him,” Jiang Yihuan said aggrievedly. ”Please let me stay and take care of him!”

”He’s so ill, and you, an unmarried girl, are supposed to take care of him? Who does he think he is?” Jiang Yihui scolded. ”Go to my place right now, you hear?”

”But you don’t look sick at all!”

”That’s because my illness is mild, not like that weakling who can’t even withstand a minor illness,” Jiang Yihui said disdainfully. ”Hurry and come with me, now!”

”Let me say a word to Brother Xiao. He’ll worry if he wakes up and can’t find me. Brother... don’t pull me, I’ll go...”

Xiao Yanci got up, using every ounce of strength to reach the door, and stood there shouting at Jiang Yihui, ”Let Huan’er go, or I’ll tell the teacher where you sneaked off to the other night.”

Jiang Yihui turned around, glaring at the shaky Xiao Yanci, ”You wouldn’t dare.”

”Try me... cough cough...” Xiao Yanci tilted his head, glaring at him angrily, ”Huan’er wants to stay with me, you have no right to force her to leave.”

Jiang Yihuan: ”...”

Actually, she didn’t really want to stay here.

How did Xiao Yanci, being this ill, even have the strength to get to the door? So bothersome.

Jiang Yihui released Jiang Yihuan, casting her a mocking look, ”Fine, stay with that weakling. The situation outside is worsening, with some people even having rotten faces. If you catch this disease, you can kiss your pretty face goodbye.”

Jiang Yihuan touched her cheek, a look of panic flashing in her eyes.

”Brother Xiao, I’m not a doctor; staying here won’t help. I should find a good doctor to treat you! As for my brother, he’s still my brother, and if he’s sick, I should take care of him. I’ll take care of him for a couple of days and then come back to accompany you,” Jiang Yihuan said, wiping the tears from the corner of her eyes, acting as if she were being forced.

Xiao Yanci looked at Jiang Yihuan with a heartache, ”Huan’er, you don’t have to fear him. If you don’t want to go with him, then don’t go.”

Jiang Yihuan covered her face and ran out.

If she didn’t leave now, that fool wouldn’t let her leave later.

She definitely didn’t want her face to rot.

Her face was precious.

”Huan’er...” Xiao Yanci looked at Jiang Yihuan’s departing figure, his eyes filled with impotent anger. ”When I recover and gain my official title, I’ll ensure you have a good life so that your mother and brother can never bully you again.”

Jiang Yihuan ran far away and asked Jiang Yihui, ”Brother, are you really sick?”

”How could I be?” Jiang Yihui rolled his eyes. ”I’m not sick and am planning to go home. Haven’t you noticed how empty it is today? That’s because more people are getting sick, and nobody wants to risk staying here; they’re all clamoring to go home. I’m planning to go home too; are you really going to stay here and take care of that useless weakling?”

Jiang Yihuan quietly breathed a sigh of relief.

However, the act had to continue.

”If I leave, what will happen to Brother Xiao?”

”He hasn’t earned his title yet, so you don’t need to be so attentive to him. Oh no, he might not even survive this. If he dies here, you’ll lose big time,” Jiang Yihui looked at her sarcastically. ”By then, your reputation will be ruined, making it hard to marry into a good family.”
