This Life, I'm Raising the Right Man

Su Yaoguang walked into the room, covering her mouth and nose: ”What’s going on?”

Xiao Yanci saw her and instinctively showed a grievance, his eyes reddened, exhibiting a foxy charm.

In his previous life, every time he showed this expression, Su Yaoguang wished she could pluck the stars from the sky for him. His good looks, coupled with this expression, made him even more endearing.

”Miss Su, you’re just in time...” Xiao Yanci said weakly, ”I want to change rooms; this room is not conducive to my recovery.”

”Sure...” Su Yaoguang agreed immediately.

Zhou Wangshu glanced at her, sneered, and turned to leave.

”Could you please help him find another place?” Su Yaoguang said to the little monk.

”But Benefactor Su, we have no empty rooms left!” The little monk frowned and said with embarrassment.

Su Yaoguang leaned close to the little monk’s ear and whispered something quietly.

”Thank you for your hard work.”

”It’s no trouble; it’s our duty.” The little monk’s attitude towards Su Yaoguang improved significantly.

Su Yaoguang’s goodwill had already spread, and everyone knew that these patients had a place to recuperate because she suggested it to Lord County Magistrate, preventing them from being locked up like those in the neighboring town.

Many patients had fled from the neighboring town, saying that their County Magistrate didn’t care whether they lived or died. Once patients were discovered, they were all locked up; the dead ones were thrown out for burning, and the living ones continued waiting to die.

Su Yaoguang found Zhou Wangshu when her ”younger brother” was helping in the kitchen. He was vigorously stirring the porridge in the pot, as if that porridge had provoked him.

”Are you angry?” Su Yaoguang picked up the cucumber beside him and held it to his mouth, ”Open your mouth, have something to eat.”

Zhou Wangshu snorted coldly and continued stirring the porridge.

”Fine, don’t eat it then.” Just as Su Yaoguang was about to take it back, she saw Zhou Wangshu take a vicious bite, chewing it loudly, and gave her a harsh look with those peach blossom eyes before continuing to stir the porridge.

Su Yaoguang leaned in and said, ”Don’t you want to see the show?”

Zhou Wangshu ignored her.

That Xiao Ci was like he just came from a brothel, his sneaky eyes darting around, yet she still fell for it and agreed to change his room.

Su Yaoguang grabbed the spatula from his hand, put it down, and pulled him outside.

By now, the little monk had already found another ”room” for Xiao Yanci.

Xiao Yanci looked at the huge Buddha statue in front of him, then at the patients lying everywhere around: some with red rashes all over their faces, some vomiting and having diarrhea, others moaning in misery with pitiful cries.

”Master, is this the room you gave me?” Xiao Yanci called out to the little monk who was about to leave.

”I already told you there are no private rooms. The temple is full, and more patients are being brought over. There’s nowhere left to lie down. You should be kind and offered up your solo room.”

”Miss Su clearly promised to change my room.” Xiao Yanci was unwilling, ”I want to see Miss Su.”

”This is what the lady instructed. Isn’t this a room? Others can recuperate here, why can’t you?” The little monk said and turned to the big monk next to him, ”Senior Brother, this is his illness record, his spot is... number ten. When Doctor Jiang comes for consultation later, remember to tell her the original number ten’s symptoms have lightened, and he has moved to another hall for recuperation.”

Su Yaoguang pulled Zhou Wangshu as they watched the commotion from outside. When they saw Xiao Yanci’s face turn ashen, coughing uncontrollably from anger, even spitting blood, she instantly felt relieved.

”Haha... isn’t it funny?” Su Yaoguang tugged at Zhou Wangshu’s sleeve.

Zhou Wangshu’s expression softened: ”What’s so funny about that?”

Su Yaoguang pinched his cheek: ”Your eyes are clearly crescent-shaped from laughing, yet you’re being stubborn.”

”Sister Yaoguang.” A sweet and delicate little boy handed her a persimmon cake. ”Granny Wang gave me this persimmon cake and said it’s from her home. It’s especially fragrant and sweet, you should try it.”

Su Yaoguang looked at the little boy in front of her, nearly melted by his adorable eyes. She received the persimmon cake and gently patted his hair, saying kindly, ”Thank you, Little Yuanxing.”

Zhen Yuanxing, Zhen Yuanfang’s younger brother, was the poor child caught the eye of nobility in their previous life and forcibly taken as a pet. Look at him now, even while fleeing, his skin still remains tender and luminous, his lips redder than a girl’s, his eyes full of sparkling stars, extraordinarily lively. When he smiles, he reveals a pair of dimples, making even the most hardened villain drop their guard.

Zhou Wangshu listened to Su Yaoguang’s voice sweetened by at least several degrees, rolled his eyes, and turned away.

”Miss Su, it’s bad news. That scholar named Xiao suddenly has a high fever and refuses to subside, calling out your name constantly,” the little monk ran over to inform her.

Zhang Zhaodi happened to pass by and said to Su Yaoguang, ”I’ll go check. You carry on with your work, don’t worry about that thing.”

She had been listening from the side for a long time, knowing that Zhou Wangshu especially disliked the close interactions between Su Yaoguang and Xiao Yanci, so naturally, she should take care of this matter to avoid her future son-in-law getting into a spat with her daughter over an outsider.

Su Yaoguang certainly couldn’t bear to let Zhang Zhaodi take care of Xiao Yanci. In their previous life, her mother suffered enough grievances because of her. In this life, they have no relationship, and she certainly has no obligation to take care of him.

”What did Doctor Jiang say?” Su Yaoguang addressed Jiang Jing as Doctor Jiang when she was outside.

”Doctor Jiang said it’s just the plague combined with poisoning. The toxins haven’t been expelled, causing the fever. Once the toxins are cleared, he’ll be fine.”

”Then let him detoxify.” Su Yaoguang said, ”We have so many patients here, how could we prioritize only him? As long as there’s no life-threatening danger, just follow Doctor Jiang’s instructions.”

After a busy day, Su Yaoguang and the others finally stopped to take a break.

The entire temple was filled with people, leaving no room to even set foot. They had to find a spot in the back mountain, set up a pot, to cook a stew.

With resources tightened, the rice and flour, along with other ingredients delivered daily, had to feed hundreds of people. They set up a large pot to make a stew with various vegetables, baking a few flatbreads on the side with some rabbit meat inside.

The Buddhist Hall is a place of quiet meditation and should remain vegetarian, but with their daily workload, they needed nutritious food to keep up. This was one of the reasons they ate in the backyard.

They toiled from dawn till the late night before taking a rest. If faced with particularly difficult patients, Jiang Jing and Su Yaoguang might be called even then, all the more reason to maintain their own health.

Zhang Zhaodi placed a lot of rabbit meat on Zhen Yuanxing’s plate: ”You’re too skinny, eat more.”

Zhen Yuanxing was adorable and sweet-tongued, always helping them wherever he could, earning the women’s affections.

With his arrival, Zhou Wangshu had lost his charm.

Su Yaoguang gave a piece of meat to Zhang Zhaodi, then to her second, third aunt, and little uncle, finally giving a piece of rabbit leg to Zhou Wangshu.
