Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 2751: Chapter 2687: It’s Not Disrespect

”You’re dreaming.”

”Dreaming? Let me tell you, as long as I get this done for them, a great future awaits me. Just wait and see if I have what it takes to send you back home first.”

Chang Min closed her eyes.

”Leave.”

Jiang Xiao and the others stayed at the guesthouse for a night and set off before dawn the next day.

As they left the city, the mountain loomed in the distance—not very far away.

For some reason, those people chose not to bury the deceased in Linchang Town. Perhaps they intended to transport the bodies away, but upon discovering the stench, they reluctantly chose a place to bury them.

This mountain is dotted with numerous graves.

It seems that when people from surrounding towns pass away, they are often interred here.

You can almost see the graves at a glance.

Jiang Xiao also carried a shovel as she walked along the narrow path, carefully inspecting each grave she passed.

It was still dark, so they needed flashlights.

The beams highlighted wisps of mist shrouding the graves, exuding an eerie vibe.

Guan Tiezhu and Luo Yongsheng occasionally glanced at Jiang Xiao, noticing her calm demeanor, and were somewhat impressed.

”Xiao Chiang, aren’t you scared?”

Guan Tiezhu couldn’t help but ask.

Most girls would be frightened.

There are so many here...

And it’s so dark; if it were broad daylight, things might be better.

Now, aside from the occasional chirp of insects, all they could hear were their footsteps; it was chillingly silent.

As the flashlight beams flickered across the tombs, the two of them felt a bit uncanny.

Jiang Xiao replied, ”I’m not scared.”

She only fears death, the moment right before dying.

Because she has experienced it.

Yet that fear makes her braver.

She’s already died once. Why fear graves?

Gao Shan indeed pointed out the mountain’s location to her, but he hadn’t visited, so she needed to find the women and children’s graves herself. He didn’t know their exact locations.

He mentioned a few children’s names.

The women’s names supposedly weren’t inscribed on the tombstones, only marked as ’Victim of Hongfeng Welfare Institute Fire.’

Therefore, they needed to search each grave.

Jiang Xiao didn’t miss a single tombstone.

She searched meticulously.

Soon, the light from Guan Tiezhu’s flashlight fixed on a tombstone and didn’t move away.

”Xiao Chiang, here.”

Jiang Xiao swiftly walked over.

Sure enough, there was a line of words on this tombstone.

Moreover, this grave looked quite simple—just a mound of dirt and a thin tombstone, seemingly hastily laid.

”This is it.”

She let out a sigh of relief.

Guan Tiezhu and Luo Yongsheng looked at her. ”Do you really want to dig?”

Jiang Xiao nodded.

”But, digging up someone’s grave—isn’t it...” Guan Tiezhu couldn’t help but hesitate.

Luo Yongsheng chimed in, ”Disrespectful to the dead.”

Jiang Xiao shook her head.

”No, if they died unjustly, and I can uncover the truth and bring their perpetrators to justice, then compared to truth, digging a grave shouldn’t be so hard to accept.”

In ancient times, unjust cases sometimes required exhuming graves for investigation.

It’s not disrespectful to the deceased.

Gao Shan was certain the fire wasn’t started by the children, but who knows what they faced before dying.
