Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 2605: Chapter 2541: An Iron Box

He knew the situation well and came prepared. He took out a hammer and smashed the lock, releasing a musty smell that filled the air; inside, it was indeed covered in cobwebs.

A few pieces of furniture were also coated with a thick layer of dust.

But what surprised him was that in this small house, there was actually a small dressing table, with a similarly dusty mirror on top.

He cautiously opened the drawer and found another box inside.

The iron box had a small lock hanging on it.

Guan Tiezhu initially intended to put the iron box back, but then he thought about the fact that he had cleaned the place and replaced the lock. If someone passed by, would they notice that this was not an empty house and that someone lived here, and thus decide to break in and steal something?

After all, no one would be living here thereafter.

Even though he didn’t know what was in the iron box, he realized it wouldn’t be easy to explain to Chiang Xiao if it got stolen.

Thinking this, he tucked the iron box into his luggage and took it with him.

When he returned to Capital City, dusty and exhausted, Chiang Xiao had already attended two days of school as usual.

Moreover, the Youqingwei workshop had also opened for business.

That day, she also visited the workshop, feeling quite satisfied with the workers Cheng Qiulian had recruited.

Meng Xinian had been unable to make any outside contact since he went for training, including with her.

He and the Eight Elites were living and training together, and although he had the Thousand Mile Talisman Diagram, he couldn’t use it anymore.

Besides, if he’d properly said goodbye and then returned to see Chiang Xiaoxiao, he’d find it even harder to leave.

So he was just like the others, completely cut off from the outside world.

Even though Chiang Xiao missed him terribly, she knew there was nothing she could do, and she at least had to get used to this life for two months or so.

She just hoped he’d be able to come back safe and sound after those two months.

When Guan Tiezhu returned and handed over the iron box to her, Chiang Xiao was a bit surprised.

Because that iron box seemed like something a woman would use, like a candy box, with colorful flowers printed on it.

For someone like the Sixth Young Master, who was cultured but inwardly strong and unyielding, he probably wouldn’t use such a dainty candy box to hold things, right?

Moreover, the candy box even had a lock on it. Such a candy box must have been a novelty brought back from abroad back then.

He wasn’t particularly fond of sweets anyway.

Chiang Xiao fiddled with the small lock and asked Guan Tiezhu, ”Have you already cleaned that house?”

”Yes, I just cleaned off the dust, swept away the cobwebs, and changed the lock, nothing else.”

”How’s the environment around that place?”

”It’s by the seaside, with only one or two similar small houses far away. If you walk to the pier, it takes about eighteen or nineteen minutes. Closer to the pier, you might meet some people, but over by the house, I didn’t see anyone when I was there.”

Chiang Xiao felt this was exactly the place she was looking for.

”Thank you, you have a day off today, go and enjoy a good rest.”

Guan Tiezhu nodded and left.

Chiang Xiao returned to the study, staring at the iron box, now cleaned thoroughly by Guan Tiezhu, lost in thought.

She fiddled with the small lock, pondering whether to open it for a peek, while also feeling like she should ask her dad before deciding if it could be opened.

Could it be that her dad had forgotten about this item being there?

Or was it something not important to begin with?

But what unimportant thing would need to be locked up?

She shook the box, hearing a sound of items rattling inside. It wasn’t heavy, appearing to contain some paper-like items.
