Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 2087: Chapter 2023: Never Close

So many decades have passed, and now they suddenly reappear, what is going on?

They returned home, and as soon as they walked in, they saw that all the lights in the house were turned on, brilliantly lit.

”What is this?”

Upon entering the living room, they saw Old Nian holding a feather duster and sweeping dust all around, while her son sat on the sofa flipping through a newspaper.

”This... Sister-in-law, why are all the lights on the first and second floors on?”

Old Meng asked.

Old Nian turned around, glanced at them, and said flatly, ”I didn’t have time to tell you yesterday, but I have a quirk, which is that I’m afraid of the dark, so when it gets dark, every room in the house must have its lights on.”

After speaking, she pointed upstairs and said: ”I went into your room, but don’t worry, I only went in to turn on the light, I won’t touch anything. Also, why are the doors to the two rooms on the second floor locked? Are they Xinian’s rooms? Whose room is the other one? Get the keys and open the doors. I don’t care whose it is, but I just need to go in and turn on the lights at night.”

Old Meng and Meng Chaojun’s faces simultaneously darkened.

”Both of those rooms belong to Xinian, and we don’t go in.”

”Why hasn’t he come back to live here? Where was he transferred to?” Old Nian asked two questions, then waved her hand, ”Alright, I won’t ask these things. I just explained to you, I’m afraid of the dark. Those two rooms take up half the space on the second floor, and the windows are all dark, I can’t stand it. You bring the keys, at the very least I’ll lock the door again after turning on the lights, is that okay?”

”Xinian doesn’t like outsiders entering his room.”

”Why are they considered outsiders?” Old Nian’s eyes widened, ”What should Xinian call me?”

What should he call her?

Meng Chaojun couldn’t help but say: ”Aunt, to be honest, Xinian only saw you once before he was two, and he can’t remember that, so he hasn’t really had a chance to call you anything.”

They weren’t very close relatives to begin with, and after Chenger passed away, they became practically strangers.

They were basically outsiders anyway.

”Why hasn’t he called, what’s the reason?” Old Nian glanced at him, that glance seemed rather harsh.

”Chenger would call me Mumu, in our place, a Great Aunt is considered quite close. As younger generations, during these years, during festivals and when your Great Uncle and I celebrated significant birthdays, you should have brought Xinian to visit us. You should have written letters normally too, all of which you didn’t do, so how could the relationship not grow distant?”

Ha.

Meng Chaojun was so angry he couldn’t speak.

Why?

Have they forgotten all the things they said and did to Chenger back then?

When Xinian’s grandfather passed away, not a single person from the Nian family was present.

Chenger herself once said that she had lost connection with that side of the Uncle’s family. Chenger passed away twenty years ago, and now they suddenly reappear, blaming him for not taking Xinian to visit them?

”Aunt, you might as well say these things to my face, but if you ever meet Xinian, it’s better if you keep your mouth shut.”

Meng Chaojun’s face turned grim, his hands behind his back, and he said, ”Also, you arrived late last night, and it was inconvenient to stay outside, which is reasonable, but you should move out today.”

Old Meng glanced at him.

Has he suddenly become assertive?

Old Nian’s eyes widened instantly.

She looked at Meng Chaojun in disbelief, raised her voice, ”What did you say? Move out? What right do you have to make us move out?”
