Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 637: Chapter 638: Who Cares About the Reason

Chiang Xiao had no idea what Zhang Xiaomei’s purpose was for making such a scene, but from what the older comrade had just said about her having been brought in three times this month, Chiang Xiao knew Zhang Xiaomei must want to take advantage of the commotion to get away from this place.

”Zhang Xiaomei! Have you had enough?” the older comrade barked angrily, also glancing at Chiang Xiao.

”What do you mean, ’have I had enough’? I didn’t hit anyone, nor did I smash up anyone’s shop. Why have you brought me in here again? What about Zhang Dongliang? Why don’t you arrest him? He deceived me emotionally and scammed me out of my money! You never arrest him, and I won’t stand for it! You say I’m causing a disturbance, but what about this violent girl over here? Is she not causing a disturbance? Fine, you want to lock me up, do you? As long as you lock her up too, I have no objections whatsoever! Arrest her, go on, lock her up!” she ranted.

She sat there, casually ripping up several pieces of paper she had grabbed from the floor, her feet constantly scuffing the ground, the very picture of a tantrum!

The three young people who had accompanied her seemed to have grown accustomed to her antics, watching with relish, almost ready to give her a thumbs up and cheer her on.

”You were the one who started hitting the young lady first!” the older comrade shouted with a darkened face. Then he looked at the man who had been drinking water from an enamel cup and asked, ”Xingzi, what’s the situation here?”

He pointed at Chiang Xiao and her companions.

Xingzi, rubbing his head with a pained expression, glanced at Zhang Xiaomei and said, ”Uncle Ming, this is Old Wang and Old Huang’s case. Director Wu Zhiyuan has filed a complaint against the young lady, Chiang. He says she beat him up, and the injury is quite severe; there’s even a medical injury report.”

Uncle Ming looked at Chiang Xiao with some surprise, ”She injured Wu Zhiyuan?”

It seemed they were all familiar with Wu Zhiyuan.

Immediately, Chiang Xiao said, ”That’s not what happened. I am willing to cooperate fully with the investigation. However, I have my reservations about your work attitude. You’ve been rough with my grandparents and me without a proper investigation, and moreover, three hours without allowing us to drink water or to sit, what kind of treatment is that?”

Uncle Ming looked at Xingzi again, seemingly puzzled, and asked, ”What’s going on?”

Xingzi’s expression was somewhat embarrassed. He walked over and pulled Uncle Ming aside, whispering, ”Uncle Ming, you know what Old Wang and Old Huang are like. They haven’t made any progress on Xiao Wen’s case, only knowing that the culprit is a particularly brutal young lady. Now they’ve caught another one alleged to have injured a government official; do you think they’d be in a good mood?”

Although Xingzi kept his voice low, Chiang Xiao’s hearing was extremely sharp, and she heard every word clearly.

Nevertheless, the rage in her heart did not subsided at all.

What did the reason matter?

Uncle Ming shook his head with a sigh, patted Xingzi’s shoulder, went inside, brought out two chairs, and placed them by Chiang Xiao and her group. Then, looking at Chiang Songhai and Ge Liutao with a gentle tone, he said, ”Sit down, take a moment to sit. Don’t be too anxious; let’s just clarify exactly what happened.”

After noticing the peeling lips of Chiang Songhai and Ge Liutao, he turned and went out, returning quickly with two bottles of orange soda, handing them over to them.

”Drink this for now. I love this stuff, got a whole box of it in the office. Brother, it looks like we’re about the same age.”
