Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 610: Chapter 611 Not Enough Money

If it were an ordinary person, they might have given up by now; after all, when buying a house, one looks for peace of mind. If a house brings a pile of trouble, it’s a loss.

However, Chiang Xiao was too fond of the location and size of the house to let it go. She knew such an opportunity was truly rare, and there likely wouldn’t be another chance to buy such a house in the future. It would be a pity to give up just because of the Zhang Family Mother and Daughter.

Seeing her silent and deep in thought, Sister-in-law Zhang quickly added, ”This house is really good, and my cousin has connections, you know. Think about it, being able to reclaim a house once seized by the government so quickly, that’s not something just anyone can do, right? Later on, if you need any procedures handled, they can also help you with that.”

Connections overseas?

Chiang Xiao didn’t feel she would need to use those kinds of connections.

However, if the owner had already settled overseas, future entanglements would be much less, and that was something she found agreeable.

She believed that once they returned to visit City M, they would definitely regret selling such a large and nice house with a courtyard.

In twenty years, a house in such a location and size would certainly not go for less than seven or eight million. And even with seven or eight million, one might not be able to buy such a house.

During the years when she wandered as Lonely Spirit, the real estate in this area had already skyrocketed to tens of millions.

Buying it now, she was really striking it big!

”How much is the house selling for?”

Chiang Xiao asked.

Sister-in-law Zhang hesitated, then gestured with a finger.

Chiang Xiao raised an eyebrow. She immediately said, ”Ten thousand, a round number, all included.”

Ten thousand!

In this era, that really was a large sum of money!

Chiang Xiao, too, took a sharp breath as her mind started racing, calculating whether she had ten thousand yuan on hand.

The five thousand Meng Xinian had given her, the one thousand from the painting she sold to Uncle Lee, and the money from selling game a few times... Altogether, it was still less than ten thousand yuan.

If there were renovations after the purchase, like laying flooring, painting the walls, and making furniture...

Chiang Xiao’s face darkened.

She had thought she was about to become a household with ten thousand yuan, looking forward to experiencing the lifestyle of a wealthy family, only to suddenly realize that the money wasn’t even enough to buy the house!

But, in her view, the house was worth the price!

Sister-in-law Zhang smiled sheepishly and said, ”Actually, little sister, I’ll tell you the truth, I also think the asking price for the house is too high. Honestly, there have been a few people who have looked at the house, but they were all scared off by the price. My cousin may have high standards because she has lived abroad, thinking the house’s value will increase or something, so she’s adamant about not lowering the price. She says if the price goes down, she’d rather just let it sit, even if it gets moldy.”

In fact, the owner had given a hint that there was a little room for negotiation, but Sister-in-law Zhang, although considered decent, was also shrewd.

Given that there was still a chance, she naturally wanted to sell the house at this price and earn a bigger commission for her trouble.

Chiang Xiao actually understood this as well.

”Big sister, I actually do want to buy this house, but the price indeed exceeds my budget by a lot. Plus, after buying the house, I want to have all the floorboards redone, including those in the yard. Also, I need to repaint all the walls and rebuild the stairs from scratch. Big sister, think about how much that all will cost. So, this price...”
