Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 584: Chapter 585: I Have an Idea

”Xiao Chiang, please have a seat, sit,”

”Thank you, Grandma,”

”Xiao Chiang is really polite,” she said with a smile. Xue Liujin then said to her loudly, ”Of course Brother Chiang’s granddaughter is good! What’s the point of just saying a nice word? Go get some oranges for Xiao Chiang to eat! And put out a plate of candies too!”

His tone was somewhat scolding and commanding, as if ordering a nanny to work. It was clear that Old Lady Xue’s smile had become a bit stiff, but she still stood up and hurried to the kitchen.

”I’ll get them now.”

Seeing that Chiang Songhai and Ge Liutao were somewhat embarrassed, Zheng Yucheng sighed helplessly and said to Xue Liujin, ”Dad, you should also speak more gently to Mom.”

It wasn’t like this in the past. The old couple had a good relationship, and they had depended on each other for a lifetime.

”Am I not speaking nicely?” Xue Liujin snorted and said, ”You all say I lose my temper every day, is this losing my temper? Alright, alright, go make tea quickly, don’t you know how to treat guests? Haven’t I told you before, Brother Chiang is my life-saving benefactor! If it weren’t for him, I would have probably died a long time ago!”

”Brother Liujin, don’t say that, what happened was nothing worth mentioning,” Chiang Songhai quickly said, and then changed the subject to ask about his health.

Xue Liujin sighed and said, ”I don’t know why, but I just can’t sleep. As soon as I lie down, it’s like there are two armies fighting inside my head, with all their gunfire and cannon fire, and it’s so noisy!”

With chronic insomnia, how could one’s body and mind be well? Especially for someone advanced in age.

Chiang Songhai glanced at Chiang Xiao, his lips moved but he held back from speaking.

When Old Lady Xue came out with the fruit and candy, Xue Liujin called out, ”Go get me a glass of water, I can’t drink tea.”

”Dad, your cup is here, I’ll pour it for you,” Zheng Yucheng hurriedly picked up a white porcelain cup with a lid from the table nearby.

Chiang Xiao looked at the porcelain cup, and suddenly an idea struck her.

She remembered the Calming Talisman Figure she had learned to draw. If she were to draw the Calming Talisman Figure on the water cup, could it possibly have an effect?

The Calming Talisman Figure had a soothing effect; it might help with Xue Liujin’s insomnia to some extent.

However, it would probably be best to draw it on a pillowcase. Sleeping with the Calming Talisman Figure on the pillow should be effective.

Thinking of this, she felt an urge to try it.

But she hadn’t brought anything with her and couldn’t draw it now. Besides, she couldn’t just bring it up out of the blue and offer to draw on Xue Liujin’s cup or pillowcase, could she?

They would probably think she had lost her mind.

In fact, Zheng Yucheng had invited Chiang Songhai over with a certain purpose in mind.

Chiang Songhai’s medicine had saved so many of them in the past, they always felt that Chiang Songhai’s Chinese Medicine Techniques must be good, too. They wanted him to take a look at Xue Liujin and, if possible, prescribe a few Chinese medicinal formulas to cure his insomnia—that would be best.

Even a little relief would be something.

After learning their intentions, Chiang Songhai felt a bit embarrassed.

How could he claim to have any medical techniques? For common colds, fevers, coughs, or injuries, he managed to prescribe some herbal remedies, but for insomnia like this, he really had no solution.

Seeing that he had no solution, Zheng Yucheng and Madam Xue were quite disappointed but also helpless.

Xue Liujin’s spirits were indeed not good; as they talked, he became a bit spacey. Chiang Songhai and his company didn’t stay long after having a round of tea, they bid their farewells.
