Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 566: Chapter 567: Can This Account Be Settled Like This

But Chiang Xiao wasn’t just bluffing.

”Ah Yu, add more dishes today! Slaughter a chicken to celebrate for Chiang Xiao!” Uncle Huo grandly gestured with his hand, and everyone at noon feasted until their faces were slick with oil.

After the meal, Chiang Xiao made a phone call to Kuang Yunxian.

Upon receiving Chiang Xiao’s call, Kuang Yunxian took a long breath and laughed, ”My genius girl, Student Xiao Chiang, everyone is going crazy trying to find you!”

Chiang Xiao immediately felt a bit embarrassed, ”I’ve been busy with some things lately and forgot the prize announcement date. I’m really sorry, Brother Kuang.”

”You didn’t get the date wrong; we moved it up. We scheduled an interview with a famous reporter from the provincial TV station, and he has an assignment abroad tomorrow, so we decided to judge the competition three days early. By the way, you definitely didn’t see it on TV, right? But we’ve got a recording. Whenever you can make it, I’ll show it to you. Also, there are some things I’d like to talk to you about.”

Chiang Xiao’s eyes lit up. There was a recording, too?

”I can get to the city this afternoon, Brother Kuang. Do you have time this afternoon?”

”Of course,” Kuang Yunxian perked up, laughing, ”You might not realize how popular you are right now. Our association’s Chairman Zheng told me that as soon as we make contact with you, to let him know because he wants to meet you, too. Also, the gallery manager has left a message with me. He insists on finding you and wants to treat you to dinner.”

Chiang Xiao instantly began to sweat—so many people wanted to find her?

”Brother Kuang, I’ll meet with you this afternoon first. As for the others, let’s discuss that later, okay?”

”Sure. Where shall we meet? Oh, right, there’s a tea house near our school that’s pretty peaceful,” Kuang Yunxian then paused, laughing at his mistake, ”Look at me, forgetting your age. You young girls probably don’t like to drink tea, do you? Then let me think again...”

Kuang Yunxian was indeed a gentleman, very considerate.

However, recently Chiang Xiao had actually taken a liking to drinking tea, and she wasn’t really a young girl in the true sense of the term. Hearing this, she said, ”Let’s go to the tea house you mentioned. I’ll drink tea.”

Kuang Yunxian was somewhat surprised.

But then, considering her demeanor and her paintings, he thought that it wouldn’t be too strange for someone like Chiang Xiao to enjoy tea at thirteen.

After they made their plans, Kuang Yunxian, just before hanging up, remembered Meng Xinian and quickly added, ”Oh right, you haven’t contacted Xinian either? I saw that he’s been looking for you, too. Also, your prize money, I left it with him—1,500. The original prize was 800, but due to some circumstances, the association decided to raise it to 1,500. As for the specifics, I’ll tell you when we meet this afternoon.”

Chiang Xiao was taken aback.

Why was her prize money given to Tyrant Meng?

But then, thinking it over, she tugged at the corner of her mouth. Fine, half of his wealth was still with her anyway, so this way, she could just return 3,500 to him and they’d be square, right?

”Okay. See you this afternoon.”

”See you this afternoon.”

After hanging up, Chiang Xiao decided to still make a phone call to Meng Xinian. Money can’t just come and go without any explanation.

Previously, Aunt Ah Yu mentioned someone had called looking for her, but she had already told her, as long as it wasn’t Hu Xibing calling, to just say this was a public phone. Chiang Xiao guessed that Meng Xinian might have called.
