Supreme Warrior in the City

”Is that so?” The headmaster smiled lightly at Su Yang, ”You think this isn’t a problem, or rather, you believe that making these sacrifices to protect the Human Clan is worth it, right?”

”Of course!” Su Yang replied, ”We are all members of the Human Clan. If we don’t make sacrifices to protect the Human Clan, then what should we make sacrifices for?”

”But things in this world aren’t as simple as you think.” The headmaster slowly shook his head and said softly, ”Let me put it this way: if the Nine Realms face a great crisis that could completely destroy all nine worlds, and at that time, if you protect the Human World, you won’t be able to resist this crisis, and it will descend upon the Nine Realms. But if you abandon the Human World, you could stave off the crisis. Of course, if you protect the Human World, it will eventually be destroyed by the crisis in the Nine Realms, just a little slower. And if you abandon the Human World, it will be invaded by the other Eight Realms and destroyed sooner. What would you do in this situation?”

Su Yang was stunned for a moment, scratching his head, not knowing how to answer for a long time.

”Headmaster, you’re… you’re joking!” Su Yang said, ”If the Nine Realms are gone, then how can we protect the Human World? But the problem is, how could there be such a crisis? And if there really was such a crisis, the Nine Realms would have united already. Why would they be waging war against each other like now?”

”As I’ve said, some crises aren’t as simple as they appear.” The headmaster smiled lightly, ”If such a crisis truly exists, what would you choose?”

Su Yang frowned, feeling there must be a reason behind the headmaster’s words. Perhaps this is where the headmaster and the Martial Champion differ in their philosophies.

”Headmaster, what would you choose?” Su Yang asked in response.

”Hahaha...” The headmaster laughed, looking up, ”Can’t you tell what my choice is yet?”

Of course, Su Yang could see it. Otherwise, the headmaster wouldn’t be staying here, founding the Qinghe Academy, and opposing the entire Heavenly Realm.

”You mean...” Su Yang frowned, ”The Martial Champion, he chooses to protect the Nine Realms? So, the Martial Champion doesn’t intend to protect the Human World. Is this... is this the ideological difference between you and him?”

The headmaster smiled lightly, not saying yes or no.

Su Yang was even more surprised, pondering for a while before suddenly saying, ”Headmaster, I think both your choices have problems. Since all Nine Realms are facing a crisis, why aren’t the Nine Realms uniting to resist it, but are instead infighting? If you ask me, there’s no need to choose. If such a crisis truly exists, just gather the people from the other Eight Realms. Everyone can discuss it clearly. This way, working together, the other Eight Realms wouldn’t need to destroy the Human World!”

”The idea is beautiful, but reality is often cruel.” The headmaster shook his head, ”Do you know why the wars between the Nine Realms erupted?”

”Isn’t it the conflict between the Nine Realms?” Su Yang asked.

”There are indeed conflicts between the Nine Realms, but those conflicts alone aren’t enough to cause all the Nine Realms to go to war.” The headmaster said, ”The wars between the Nine Realms are precisely to deal with this crisis.”

”What do you mean?” Su Yang asked, puzzled.

”In this crisis, protecting the entire Nine Realms is very hard. However, if we wish to preserve one or two of the worlds, it’s somewhat possible.” The headmaster said, ”But to protect one or two of the worlds, we must have enough resources. Only by obtaining enough resources can we cultivate enough talent to protect the world. In other words, we must concentrate all the resources of the Nine Realms to protect one or two worlds.”

Su Yang’s eyes widened as he exclaimed, ”So, the wars between the Nine Realms are... are for seizing resources?”

The headmaster nodded calmly, which counted as an answer to Su Yang’s question.

Su Yang’s expression changed immediately. He thought for a while, then suddenly said, ”In that case, why not gather all the beings from the Nine Realms into two worlds, then concentrate the resources of the Nine Realms to protect those two worlds? Wouldn’t that work?”

”It’s not so simple.” The headmaster shook his head calmly, ”Every life living in this world consumes resources. To concentrate the resources of the Nine Realms, we must eliminate most of the lives in the Nine Realms. Only then can resources be concentrated!”

”This... this... this...” Su Yang was dumbfounded, speechless, finally understanding the crux of these contradictions.

After a long silence, Su Yang looked at the headmaster and said quietly, ”Headmaster, the crisis you mentioned in the Nine Realms, is... is it real?”

The headmaster smiled lightly, ”You’ve been to the Martial Champion’s place and gone through his test, so you should have some impression.”

”Impression?” Su Yang paused, ”What do you mean?”

”Didn’t you feel some unusual occurrences on that platform?” The headmaster asked.

”Unusual occurrences!” Su Yang’s eyes widened. He suddenly remembered that it was the strange sounds he heard on that platform that led him to where the Martial Champion was.

Could it be the unusual occurrences the headmaster mentioned?

”I... I heard some roars, as if... as if they were the cries of fierce beasts. Moreover, there were... there were also some berating voices, and some particularly strange sounds I’ve never heard before…” Su Yang quickly replied.

The headmaster moved to the window, looking at the horizon outside, and said gently, ”Have you ever heard that when astronauts are in space, they can hear some very strange sounds?”

”Hmm?” Su Yang paused, not understanding why the headmaster suddenly brought up astronauts in space. What’s the connection between the two?

However, Su Yang had indeed read some reports. When astronauts are in space, they do hear some very strange sounds.

Su Yang used to dismiss it as tabloid fabrications. Little did he expect the headmaster to also mention this; could it be that the headmaster read such tabloids too? The headmaster is quite the gossip, isn’t he?

”I’ve heard of it, but so what?” Su Yang asked.

The headmaster turned to look at Su Yang, saying softly, ”If I tell you those sounds are all real, what would you think?”

”What!?” Su Yang’s eyes widened in disbelief as he looked at the headmaster. Those sounds are all real? How is that possible? What could possibly make such sounds in space?
